You are bidding on a 1959 MERCEDES-BENZ 200 SERIES * PONTON SEDAN' for restoration or parts carThis car has been sitting for awhile. Original key is in the ignition. This vehicle is COMPLETE and no trim or body parts have been removed. Body appears to be in good condition with no major dents, (and very few small ones if any at all) see all pictures.  All the original glass is in good condition.  Both front & rear bumpers in fair condition, but have rust on them. All doors, in good working condition. All windows roll up & down  The hood is in good condition with the exception of the area behind the right 'fog light' see picture. That small area of the hood is rusted out. The deck lid is in fair/good condition, but has some surface rust (see picture). Steering wheel good, dashboard good, wiring has not been 'messed with' there is a radio.  The interior is also COMPLETE, however it's not in the best condition... see pictures. Headliner is there, but it's hanging down. The tires are in POOR condition, however I believe they will hold air. All hubcaps accounted for, has stock steel wheels.  Not in running condition Special note: I could not get the hood / trunk open, so I was not able to inspect the motor, however I could see through the grill, and the head has been removed, I believe all the parts that were removed are being stored in the trunk, unfortunately I was not able to open the trunk...I'm working on it and will up-date this ad. I believe the floor is solid, but I did not check.  I'm not sure of exact mileage, so I listed as 100.000.  The rear license plate is attached to the trunk, I'm hoping the front plate is in the trunk, but not sure.... the pink slip is clear. ...please see all pictures.  Located in Salinas, California and is being sold AS-IS and WHERE-IS.

Please note: I'm selling this car for a friend, I'm not sure 'why' an extra transmission comes with this car, I can only assume that it might need transmission work...but not sure.  If you have any questions or need additional pictures please email me and I will do my best to answer them (please, don't wait until the last day to ask, this car is a few miles from my home). The successful bidder will need to move the vehicle with-in one week (7 days) after purchase. Additional time may be granted, however buyer will need to contact me for approval.  I'm not in a position to actually move the vehicle, however I can assist in making
arrangements. Thank you and good luck bidding!

Man makes record-setting drive across the US in 28 hours, 50 minutes

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

Records, as the say, are made to be broken. Whether that's cramming the most hot dogs down your gullet, running a faster mile, or yes, driving across the United States, odds are that there's someone out there wants to eat more, run faster or drive harder. Speaking of that last example, the record for driving from a set location on the east coast, in particular the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA, has been one that has fascinated gearheads since a guy named Cannonball Baker made the trek from New York to LA in 53 hours, 30 minutes, in 1933.
The competition saw its glory days when Car and Driver's Brock Yates came up with the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (more affectionately known as the Cannonball Run), although the record was most recently set by Alex Roy and his 32-hour, seven-minute trek behind the wheel of a BMW M5 in 2006. Now, there's a new champion, who made the trip from east to west in a scarcely imaginable 28 hours and 50 minutes, behind the wheel of a 2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG. That's works out to an average speed of 98 miles per hour over the course of 2,813.7 miles.
His name is Ed Bolian, and Jalopnik has a writeup of the epic voyage that details everything from the history of the Cannonball Run to Bolian's preparation and trouble finding co-drivers, to the trip itself. It is well worth a read.

XCAR marks 20-year anniversary of Senna's passing with Mercedes 190E Cosworth

Thu, 01 May 2014

While the automotive world is focusing on the twentieth anniversary of Ayrton Senna's death, there was much, much more to the legendary driver than his untimely passing at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
XCAR has the story of a younger Senna, who, by a stroke of luck, found himself matched up against a veritable dream team of nine Formula One champions, not to mention a cadre of German touring car aces. A "probably still pissed (drunk)" James Hunt, hard-driving Niki Lauda and future champion and rival Alain Prost, were in attendance for the one-off, spec race, which was put on by Mercedes-Benz, in honor of the opening of the Nürburgring's Grand Prix circuit. And Senna was on hand with the explicit goal of besting them all.
Each driver was handed a lightly modified, but brand-new 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth, a car that can best be though of as the distant ancestor of the lovable C63 AMG. As for the race itself, well, it was sort of like an introduction of what the sport could come to expect from the Brazilian.

Watch this perfectly nice Mercedes get crushed by a front-end loader

Mon, 25 Mar 2013

In a world where the YouTube hoax continues to thrive, it's hard to know what to think of this little vid, but here are the facts as we know them: a coupe that looks like a first-generation Mercedes-Benz CLK gets crushed by a giant front-end loader. There you have it.
Our questions arise in the aftermath - we know industrial resource machinery is heavy, but the Benz gets squashed so flat we wonder if someone's trying to play a joke on us. We hear that the white coupe may have been the heavy-equipment operator's foreman's car, but who knows? The on-camera interview seems awfully conveniently placed, yes? See for yourself in the video below and then leave us your thoughts in Comments.
