The condition of the exterior, interior and engine can vary depending on the vehicle's history. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"The engine compartment heater boxes are missing, the passenger seat has an open seam, the horn doesn't work and somebody installed a really silly radio and a goofy fan. No significant rust; the floorboards are rusty but not rusted through and probably can use some attention. Bumpers/grill/star are in excellent condition. It won't go into reverse; it is thought to be a linkage problem. Also after sitting still for a year and a half the brake pedal is very low and soft. It starts right up every time and the engine runs extremely well. The left rear fender was hit at some point in the past and the repair work was done poorly. The interior is OK. I've never understood the brown and red interior. The headliner has a bad spot in the left rear; New one in the trunk. There are four matching Michelin tires that look very good but probably need replacing before long road trips are done. This car has been an absolute pleasure to drive & work on."

About four years ago a woman in her seventies walked up to me as I was parking and said, ""I dated a rich guy once and he had a car that looked just like this. It's very nice." .I smiled and thanked her. I promise you that I am not that rich guy but I have enjoyed this car every time I drove it and worked on it.  It won't win the concurs `d elegance this year, but it could if  you put a few bucks in it.    Except for the left rear fender, the body is excellent. It's obvious that it was hit a some point in the past and whoever repaired it did a really crappy job.   It has a dings and scratches and needs a good paint job. It is in remarkably good condition for its 52 years. There is no significant rust. The floor is rusty but not rusted through.  The bright work is amazing. The bumpers are flawless, as is the grill and star. It has a transmission problem that we think is a linkage issue. It won't go into reverse.  Also since its been sitting for about 1 1/2 years the brake pedal is extremely soft/low.    Everything else is very good.  It starts the first crank, every time. The headliner looks a little shabby in the left rear corner, but there is a new one in the trunk.  I'm not sure how many miles are actually on it. The odometer shows 66598 but it could be one hundred or two hundred thousand more.  I'm not sure how many owners there have been. I bought it from an elementary school librarian (honest) about 6 years ago, who bought from some one in Connecticut. It has been in Georgia for nine years and I shipped it to Texas about 1 1/2 years ago.    I smile every time I get in and the interior light goes on. It still works!  This is a solid car, remarkable for its age. Please ask questions; I will answer to the best of my ability..

Mercedes-Benz killing Maybach in 2013, replacing with S600 Pullman

Fri, 25 Nov 2011

According to an unnamed Mercedes-Benz source speaking with AutoWeek, the German automaker is killing off its Maybach line in 2013.
The unsurprising news comes after the brand was resurrected in 2002, but failed to meet sales expectations with its two core models, the Maybach 57 and 62. Further solidifying its fate, a deal with Aston Martin to aid in the development of future Maybachs fell through earlier this year.
According to the AutoWeek insider, the plan is to continue to sell both Maybach models through the end of 2013, after which the fifth-generation S-Class will go on sale. When that happens, three new variants of the S-Class will be available, including an all-new, range-topping S600 that brings back the Pullman moniker and may be better suited to competing with the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.

Mercedes-Petronas AMG W04 launched to little fanfare, lots of pressure [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

No indoor cocktail hour for the launch of the W04, the newest chassis built by the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team. Instead, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton spent a morning in photo and video sessions at the track in Jerez, Spain then paused a moment to introduce the car. The team will want the W04 to demonstrate the World Championship credentials of the team personnel and one of the team drivers, instead of the mostly humble performances we've seen over the past three years.
The W04 has been fitted with a new five-element front wing, pushrod front and pull-rod rear suspension, a second-generation Coanda exhaust and an "aggressively packaged" rear end. A small vanity panel, à la Infiniti Red Bull's RB9, covers the stepped nose.
Team principal Ross Brawn has called it "a clear step forward in design and detail sophistication," but as much as we truly respect Brawn's abilities and achievements, we heard him say similar things about the updated W03 last year before almost every race weekend from about mid-season. We really hope he's right this time, and so does the team's newest driver, Lewis Hamilton. We'll do our best to ignore the parallels of the Mercedes F1 team having signed a sponsorship deal with Blackberry, another company trying to find its way back to the top and still struggling, and just point you to the video below of the W04 in action.
