1996 Land Rover Discovery Se, 4-door 4.0l V8-engine, White, Bay Area - Calif on 2040-cars
San Francisco, California, United States
Available now - my 1996 Land Rover Discovery. This rugged truck has been a loyal warrior - I drove it to Burning Man this past summer (hence all that dust that you see in the photos!), went hiking into the Sierra Nevadas and drove around San Francisco -- this truck does everything. On the right side there are scrapes and dents as you can see in the photos, and the right-side headlight needs a proper mount. But it runs fine and is ready to drive, with a great smooth-sounding strong V8 engine, automatic transmission, AC that blows cold and two sunroofs. This has 202,188 miles; engine was replaced approx 49K miles back with a new one.
What does not work: the passenger-side front seat (the seats are electric) doesn't adjust although you can jump a wire on it to make it work. The light bulb that illuminates the transmission-shifter is out. The driver-side front door is troublesome to lock using the key-remote. The bike-rack that you see within the photos here does not come with it (unless you want to buy it - it's the Thule swing-away that holds four bikes). I do have a proper title to convey over to you, and the vehicle did just this last week get a passing smog-test certificate. I am in San Leandro, next to Alameda and Oakland. I do drive into San Francisco a few days a week (Telegraph Hill area) so if you'd like we could meet there. Thank you for looking, & best of wishes James |

Jaguar Land Rover building new R&D center for hybrids, EVs, autonomous cars
Wed, 25 Sep 2013The success of Jaguar Land Rover in recent years has largely been down to a resurgent product lineup, but a recent move into the research and development will see the British-based, Indian-owned brands take the fight to its German rivals more aggressively than ever before.
JLR is investing 50 million pounds ($80,345,000, as of this writing) in a joint R&D center in central England. The move will more than triple its staff dedicated to research, from 150 to 500, with Wolfgang Epple, JLR's Director of Research and Technology telling Automotive News Europe, "In order to play among the big animals in automotive and to be anchored in the mind of customers you have to have offered something unique, to be first in market. We want to be one of the key premier automotive manufacturers."
Jaguar Land Rover's 50-million-pound contribution represents more than half of the 94-million-pound tab, on the so-called National Automotive Innovation Campus. Based at Warwick University, Tata's European Technical Center, Warwick Manufacturing Group and the Higher Education Funding Council, an agency of the British government, are all chipping in for the facility.
Jaguar Land Rover may build factory in Saudi Arabia
Tue, 11 Dec 2012The Middle East is one of the fastest-growing markets for Land Rover, so it makes sense that the automaker is looking to set up shop in the region. According to Automotive News, Jaguar Land Rover is in talks with the people of Saudi Arabia to build a factory in the country at an expected initial cost of $1.2 billion. Still in the early stage of talks, the proposed facility could start up by 2017 using locally sourced materials such as steel and aluminum.
Such an arrangement could be beneficial for both entities as Saudi Arabia looks to diversify its oil-reliant economy and Land Rover could get local production capacity of around 50,000 units. The report also says that the agreement talks about the possibility for Jaguar models to be built at the same plant further down the road.
This won't be the first vehicle produced in Saudi Arabia - that honor goes to the KSU Gazal-1 - but it will be the first from a major global automaker.
Jaguar and Land Rover to consolidate dealerships
Thu, 29 Nov 2012Jaguar and Land Rover are set to merge their sales facilities, according to Inside Line. Jaguar Land Rover North America President Andy Gross says 45 percent of Jaguar owners also have an SUV in their stable, so it makes sense to give customers as much exposure to the cat's high-riding cousins and possible. The number of overall outlets will remain the same, and the brands will reportedly remain separate on the showroom floor, however.
So far, just one dealer has made the move to combine under the roof of one 68,000 square-foot facility in Paramus, New Jersey (above), though a further 20 are ready to make the shift and become Jaguar Land Rover outlets. Gross believes the shift is necessary so that his company's dealer network will accurately reflect the company's products. We'll see how cozy the brands are when Jaguar starts rolling out its own SUVs in a few years.
