I'm selling my rare, very nice 1981 Jeep Scrambler.  It is collectible and ready to cruise.

This beauty has been built piece by piece from the ground up, capped with a straight-from-the-paint-booth professional, 6 mil paint job.  This is the perfect toy for the perfect day.  It has been professionally built and adult owned.  In the past decade, it has racked up less than 1000 total miles.  In that time period, it has never spent the night outside.  It has a 100% rust free, clean body, and has never been off-road or abused.  My painter claims he’s never seen anything like it.

Today, the Scrambler has a strong, rebuilt 304 V8 engine, backed by a rebuilt T-15 transmission:  maybe the heaviest-duty 3-speed ever made.  It runs great, and has absolutely no known drivetrain flaws.  The build quality is evident as soon as you take it on the highway.  Even with the lift and massive, 35-inch Super Swampers, the Scrambler tracks very well, with less wandering than the typical, standard-sized CJ.  The drivetrain is tight and responsive, and there are no significant leaks or drips.

While I firmly believe that no 33-year-old jeep should be considered a daily driver, this one comes as close to being a reliable day-to-day driver as you will probably find.  Essentially, just climb in, turn the key, and go.

This Scrambler moved from South Florida to central Missouri about 12 years ago.  The entire body was replaced (full steel body), and repainted.  Next, the under-powered straight-six was swapped out with a 304 V8 from a full-size jeep and rebuilt.  It was mated to a rebuilt T-15 three speed and a rebuilt Dana 300 transfer case at that time. The Scrambler has been built and modified piece by piece, upgraded over time.  The entire drivetrain, suspension, body, interior, and electrical have been gone through and updated.  I’d classify this as a very nice daily-driver+ quality vehicle all around.  The only known defects are a bouncy speedometer (fairly standard) and intermittent gas gauge (likewise).  All of the gauges and sending units are new.

Today, it’s driven on nice days and, frankly, not enough.

Drivetrain:

Small block V8, 304 CID:  rebuilt, less than 1000 miles

                Headers

                Holley carburetor

T-15, heavy duty, 3-speed transmission; generally considered the heaviest-duty 3-speed transmission ever manufactured:  rebuilt, less than 1000 miles

Dana 300 transfer case:  widely considered the best transfer case ever manufactured; rebuilt, less than 1000 miles

Dana 44 (upgraded) rear axle, replacing the standard Model 20 rear end

Dana 30 front end

New front disc brakes; stops great

Body

100% rust-free body

New neoprene body grommits

Rock solid frame

Fold-down windshield (which I’ve never had down)

Rugged Ridge double front bumper

Custom, super heavy duty rear bumper

Bushwacker fender flares

Paint

This is a one-week old paint job, professionally done.  It is a true, 6-mil, three-stage paint job.  Needless to say, this isn’t typically what you find on a classic jeep.  The first coat is Deltron epoxy primer; if you know your paint, you know that this is as good as it gets.  No exterior surface has less than two coats of PPG 4273 Radiant Fire Red.  Everything was wet sanded and buffed appropriately.

Wheels and tires

35-inch Super Swamper tires

Warn locking hubs

Interior

High-back, BesTop Aqua front seats, in excellent condition

Completely Linx’d interior

All new gauges

All new sending units

Locking Tuffy center console, set up for concealed stereo, in excellent condition

New heater core and defroster unit

Billet aluminum knobs

Extras

All trim pieces are stainless steel

Hard half-doors, in good condition

Bikini top, in good condition

Lots of spare parts, should you want them, including

                Original exhaust brackets

                Army jerry cans

An antifreeze return system (not installed)

                1981 Chilton’s CJ guide

A pair of stainless steel  1000lb tow hooks

A new WindJammer, which I’ve never had on

Anything else I might turn up

If you have any reservations whatsover, don’t buy an old jeep.  If you have any questions whatsoever, please ask.  If you would like pictures of anything in particular, please let me know prior to bidding.  I very strongly encourage you to inspect the vehicle prior to purchase.  I will be happy to facilitate you and/or your chosen mechanic’s inspection prior to the end of the auction.  I try to be as thorough as possible, but I’m not an expert or a mechanic, so please take the time to ask questions, pay close attention to all of the pictures, and be thorough in your research as to what you’re willing to pay.  At the end of the day, the vehicle is listed in ‘AS-IS’ condition, and no warranties or guarantees are made or implied.

Ultimately, by bidding you are entering into a legal contract.  There will be no exceptions, and I won’t hesitate to utilize all appropriate legal avenues to enforce the bidding contract.  The winning bidder will pay a $1000 non-refundable deposit at the close of the auction.  The balance will be paid within 48 hours.  I’m happy to accept funds via wire transfer or cash.

Watch this 650-hp Hennessey Jeep Grand Cherokee go from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds

Tue, 14 May 2013

Hennessey Performance Engineering has created an HPE650 package for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT fitted with the 6.4-liter Hemi engine. When it leaves the showroom floor it has 470 horsepower and gets from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds. When it leaves Hennessey's garage floor after the upgrade it has 650 horsepower - 530 hp at the wheels, according to Hennessey - and gets to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds on its way to running the quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds.
There's more than just a Roots-type supercharger bolt-on, with ported cylinder heads and high-flow headers among the many changes made to the engine. You can watch this pre-2014 facelift silver model prove its spec sheet on the drag strip in the video below.

Chinese automaker Great Wall wants to buy Jeep

Mon, Aug 21 2017

As Chinese automakers look to break into the U.S. market, we've been hearing about how companies in China are courting FCA. After GM and Volkswagen each shut the possibility of a merger, an unnamed Chinese company stepped up to the table. Its offer to buy FCA was refused, but the suitors are still knocking. Now, Automotive News reports that Chinese automaker Great Wall is interested in making a deal specifically to purchase the Jeep brand. Great Wall President Wang Fengying told Automotive News in an email that her company is "connecting with FCA" to start the negotiation process. FCA, though, told the publication that it hasn't been approached by Great Wall. Great Wall's offer, if accepted, would separate Jeep Í— FCA's most valuable brand Í— from the rest of the FCA portfolio. It's not unthinkable that FCA would consider selling Jeep on its own. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne has said he'd consider spinning off Jeep and Ram. The company also said it could see making Maserati and Alfa Romeo into a separate company as well. Jeep, though, might be worth more on its own that the entirety of FCA with Jeep included, according to Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas. This complicates the matter for any potential buyer that owns FCA franchise dealerships, and for FCA, for which Jeep is an attractor for selling the company as a whole. Great Wall, which only generates $14.7 billion in annual revenue (compared to FCA's $131 billion), is confident it could raise the funds to buy Jeep. As Automotive News points out, though, there could be a bidding war brewing if Jeep can be bought separately from the rest of the brands. Still, As Great Wall spokesman Xu Hui said, the company has been following Jeep, and sees it as a key to achieving its goal of becoming "the world's largest SUV maker." Great Wall already has research and development facilities in Detroit and Los Angeles. The Chinese company is also considering building a factory in the U.S. rather than in Mexico. Whether or not Great Wall acquires Jeep, it wants to sell SUVs in the U.S., and having a factory in the States means it wouldn't have to worry about Trump renegotiating NAFTA. Jeep is currently expanding its market presence, and has new vehicles, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, on the way in 2019. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. FCA recalling 323,000 cars for wiring, software issues

Mon, Jul 25 2016

The Basics: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is conducting a voluntary recall for an estimated 323,361 cars in the US. The affected vehicles were built after September 23, 2014 and include: the 2015 Chrysler 200, Ram ProMaster City, Jeep Renegade, and 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokees. The Problem: An insufficient crimp in the vehicles' wiring harness may result in a solenoid fault code, which could cause the engine to stop. The loss of power could lead to an accident. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: FCA will update the affected vehicles' software and replace wire harnesses, as needed. According to FCA, owners that experience the problem can temporarily resolve the issue by restarting the vehicle. If you own one: FCA is reaching out to owners to schedule a service. Related Video: Statement: Wire Harness Crimp July 22, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 323,361 vehicles in the U.S. to update certain software and replace wire harnesses, as needed. An examination of warranty data led to an FCA US investigation that discovered an insufficient crimp in a wire harness. Such a crimp may lead to a solenoid fault code that can cause propulsion loss. The Company is unaware of any related injuries or accidents. Most vehicles in the recall population will not experience this fault code over their lifetimes. However, should the condition occur, it can typically be temporarily resolved by stopping the vehicle and re-starting its engine. Accordingly, FCA US urges customers to heed the instructions on their recall notices. Affected are certain model-year 2015 Chrysler 200 midsize sedans, Ram ProMaster City small vans, Jeep Renegade and Cherokee SUVs. Certain model-year 2014 Cherokees are also affected. A change made in the harness-manufacturing process eliminates the need to recall any vehicle built after Sept. 23, 2014. An estimated 35,511 additional vehicles in Canada are included in the campaign; as are 7,067 in Mexico; and 43,927 outside the NAFTA region. Customers will be advised when they may schedule service.
