Taxes and Licensing: California buyers will be charged sales tax and licensing and processed on your behalf. Out of state buyers (including other countries), we will send title and you will be responsible for registration and taxes in your own state or providence. All transactions will be charged a $55 documentation fee in addition to the sales price. If leaving the state or country, the car must be picked up by a transportation company that can provide a bill of lading, otherwise California sales tax will be charged. (All licensed transport companies provide these). Personalized plates on vehicles (if any) belong to the owner of record and cannot be included with the vehicle.
A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due within 48 hours of the auction close. The remaining balance is due within 72 hours of the close of auction, unless other arrangements were made. Accepted payment methods are bank wire transfers, cashier's checks and money orders. If you wish to obtain financing, please do so ahead of time. We reserve the right to end the auction early. We also reserve the right to verify any or all bids to ensure exceptional auction integrity. Please do not ask the reserve amount, as we will not disclose this information.
Transportation expenses are the sole responsibility of the buyer. We cannot be held liable for any problems or damages arising from or due to transportation handling. The Gas Guzzler schedule, with mpg ratings and charges that haven't changed since 1991, lays out which fuel-swillers owe what to Uncle Sam. I started thinking about the "Gas Guzzler Tax" - considerably less well known as The Energy Tax Act of 1978 - when I was driving Dodge's new Challenger SRT Hellcat last week. Unsurprisingly for a car that can burn 1.5 gallons of gas per minute at max tilt, theoretically able to empty a full tank of premium in about 13 minutes, the Hellcat will be subject to the Gas Guzzler Tax schedule when it goes on sale.
Fans of Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson might want to make plans to be in the UK next weekend. On August 24, Anglia Car Auctions in King's Lynn is auctioning off Clarkson's black 1999 Jaguar XJR as part of its classic sale. According to the auction house, the Jag was "originally the daily drive" of Clarkson and has had one registered owner since. Clarkson's former ride clocks in at 93,000 miles and has an estimated price of 2,500 to 4,000 pounds. At roughly $3,300 to $5,300 in US dollars, that could be quite a steal for a hardcore Jeremy Clarkson fan. And with a supercharged 4.0-liter V8 engine and lavish interior, it's a luxury sport sedan lover's dream. This isn't the first time Clarkson has crossed paths with Anglia Car Auctions. Back in 2009, he and fellow Top Gear stars James May and Richard Hammond made an appearance at another vintage auction to buy vehicles for a future segment of the show.
Jaguar may price the much-rumored F-Type Coupe above the F-Type Convertible, if a report from Australia's Drive is to be believed. What makes Jag think that such a pricing strategy would work? Porsche. Take a look at the German manufacturer's consumer site, and you'll notice that the Boxster is less expensive than the Cayman, despite being essentially the same car. It's a fair point, and a price premium does a good job of emphasizing the sporting chops of the coupe over the open-air experience that normally entitles convertibles to higher MSRPs. It's unclear just how closely Jaguar will follow Porsche's example, though. Both the Cayman and Cayman S boast an extra ten horsepower over a Boxster or Boxster S, and while this bump in grunt is negligible in every situation but an argument over which is "best," it isn't something to be ignored in the F-Type, particularly as cranking more power out of its supercharged engines should be a rather simple matter.
