1986 Honda Crx Si, Unmodified, Unrestored Southwest Car on 2040-cars

Year:1986 Mileage:161300
Location:

Carson City, Nevada, United States

Carson City, Nevada, United States

I bought this CRX in January 2013 because I've always wanted a first generation CRX that wasn't a flintstone mobile and this one came up as a super original car. No drivetrain swaps, not even a cone airfilter. The only "enhancements" are the eightiestastic louvers on the hatch and a 1980s high quality stereo install. Reason for sale - I don't use it much anymore and am consolidating my fleet so I can buy a "proper" race car.

161k on the odometer, I'm the third owner, was bought new in Texas (dealer sticker still on the car and the somewhat dog eared original owners manual confirms that), lived out in Fallon NV for a long time. Typical Southwestern car issues (dry/shrunk rubber), paint on the hood is faded and has been polished through to the primer on one "ridge" of the hood. I've had the timing belt changed shortly after I bought it and changed out the original shocks for a set of KYB GR2s as the original shocks had exceeded their "throw away by date" by at least a decade. It rides like one of these little buzzboxes should, always starts and generally just works like a Honda should.

At some point the speakers that were part of the original 80s install were replaced and someone cut holes in the doorcards for the speakers. Things like that upset me, so I sourced a set of uncut door cars in good condition and the correct color. Of course they come with the car. The previous owner also tried to "repair" the sun visors by putting in new material and then stitching them together (please see photo). Unfortunately I have not found a good set of sun visors to replace these.

I also had the pedal mechanism replaced with a good used one as the one that is original to the car suffered from the usual broken welds.

Known issues:

  • a/c compressor works but is rattling. I don't think it's long for this world
  • Rear window wiper and washer jet not working
  • Clunking noise from the passenger side rear shock as I reused the top mounting rubbers and they have a little play
  • The front rubber lip is missing
  • It has a little rust in the bottom corners of the windshield frame. Please see pictures
  • A couple of small cracks in the fenders and the front panel. Please see pictures, the cracking is very minimal.
  • Err. That's it.

Car comes with two uncut door cards, rear speaker mounts and covers, replacement front Brembo disks, Porterfield R4S pads and calipers.

Car is in Carson City, NV. If you want to do a fly&drive, I'm happy to pick you up from the airport in Reno, NV.

Clear and clean NV title in hand. Please let me know if you require more photos of specific areas of the car, I'm happy to send them to you if necessary. Also, if you want to inspect the car in person please contact me so we can arrange to meet up.

Very reasonable reserve price.

Watch these guys creatively cover No Diggity in a Honda Civic

Mon, 17 Feb 2014

People do some weird things in their cars. Take these two gentlemen and their Honda Civic. Rather than tune in to satellite radio or hook up an iPod, they've opted to create their own music.
YouTube musician Flula (in the passenger seat) and his friend Chester perform a cover of Blackstreet's Number-One Billboard hit, "No Diggity," complete with the requisite auto tuning, all while on the go. Is it weird that we almost prefer this wacky version to the original '90s R&B classic? Take a look - and a listen - by scrolling below, and note that we've included the original song featuring Dr. Dre... you know, for comparative purposes.

Honda scores big in Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards [w/videos]

Wed, 15 Jan 2014

This year the Detroit Auto Show didn't just celebrate the automobile, it celebrated how we find out about the automobile, too. Partnering The One Club, this year introduced the 2014 One Show Automobile Advertising of the Year Award to Cobo Hall, celebrating winners in five different categories of advertising: broadcast television, online, interactive, experiential, and print/outdoor. Winners in those categories were judged by 50 creative directors and journalists, while a Public Choice category was chosen from among nearly 20,000 online votes.
Honda walked off with three of the six awards, its Hands spot taking Broadcast honors, its Sound of Honda getting the Online category and Illusions winning Public Choice. Hyundai made the grade in Interactive with Driveway Decision Maker, Fiat captured Print/Outdoor with its "Letters" ad, and Toyota's Tundra Endeavor Campaign spot and BMW's A Window into the Near Future were co-winners for Experiential.
You can watch all of the press release and winning videos below or check out all of the finalists, announced last month, for a refresher.

2014 Honda Odyssey gets some tidy tweaks [w/video]

Wed, 27 Mar 2013

Here in New York, Honda is offering up a refreshed version of its well-liked Odyssey minivan, bringing with it a slew of updates including the segment's first in-car vacuum. It looks to be a neat little feature, one that families will no doubt get a lot of use out of. Kids are spill-machines, after all.
On the outside, the Odyssey gets a revised front end with dark headlamp surrounds, shiny cross-bars in the grille, and an aluminum hood and bumper. We think the blacked-out grille trim looks fine on this charcoal model, but question how smart it will look on models with lighter paint tones. Out back, there are new LED taillamps, and it looks like a new wheel design will be on offer, too.
Other changes for the 2014 Odyssey include some structural reinforcements for improved safety and some new available nannies like lane-departure warning and forward collision warning. Inside, buyers will find new finishes inside the cabin, a redesigned center stack and pushbutton start. Scroll down for the full details in an official video and in Honda's press release, and have a look at new images live from the show floor in the gallery above.
