~Gran Torino Sport Fastback - Unmolested Survivor~

DESCRIPTION:

Selling this incredible unmolested Torino.. Car has 75,900 miles.
All the paint is original to the car.. never repaired or repainted.
(Extra cost 6F 'Gold Glow' paint..not super rare but uncommon)
Completely stock under the hood.. 351 2bbl, FMX.
A couple very small rust spots between tire and door down low..very minor.
Frame, floors, trunk, cowl, door seams, hood seams etc are all great.

Interior is amazing.. . Never cut for stereo or speakers, even the rear deck looks new.

The tires are recent but raised white letters are correct for the car.
The windshield has been replaced, the rest of the tinted glass is original and in great shape.
The only deviation from stock was the addition of a nice manifold back dual exhaust sytem.

I have not detailed anything on this car..I wanted to present it exactly as found.
Just out of 5 years storage, all I've done is correct a fuel leak at the accelerator pump housing.
I replaced the accelerator pump itself (which is also the gasket) and that cured the leak.

Car runs and drives like new.. no rattles, creaks, squeaks, shudders..just a tight smooth ride.

North Carolina car.. one owner till 1996 when he passed. Car came to New England then and at that time
it had 71,784 on it.. It's been garaged and used occasioanally for cruises and shows.. Now has 75,900 17 years later.

I have a 12 part video series detailing the car if you are interested.
Contact me for YouTube links to the videos.

Known issues:
AC compressor turns freely, and turns on when called for but does not blow ice cold.
Temp gauge not working, including new sender/sensor with car.

Car is a blast to drive, very tight with no rattles or squeaks, responsive throttle, smooth ride.
Turns heads everywhere it goes, you just don't see the fastbacks much anymore.

I’ve included many pictures to help judge condition..but trust me, this is a great find
This car will walk away with survivor class trophies at car shows, its unmolested and fantastic.

There have been, and currently are several nice 72/73 GTS Torinos for sale here on ebay, however not
one of them is an original paint survivor car like this one. This car has nothing to hide, and is the nicest
unrestored Gran Torino Sport I've seen in many years.

Had some requests for more pictures, so here are more pictures..

First, some under car shots.
I have no lift so I had to just hold the iPhone under the car and take a few angles.

This is the passenger side front floor area and transmission crossmember:

.

This is looking under the rear at the gas tank and 9" rear end:

.

This is up under the rear and shows the frame meeting the bumper support area:

.

This is the same view from further back to show the gas tank straps and mounting area:

.

Here's the rear frame rail on the drivers side:

<[> .

Here is the fuel filler behind the license plate:

.

I'm including the 1973 Torino sales brochure and the owners manual (note last time registered was 2008):

.

The 'Sport' page from the brochure and one of the manual pages as well:

.

I'm also including the carb rebuild kit (I only used the accelerator pump when it came out of storage)
The rest of the carb is fine and did not need rebuilding, but this may come in handy in the future.
The small red box is the new temperature sender / sensor I am including as well.

.

Again, thanks for all the interest. I've had several good offers on the car but now that the reserve is met, the auction
will run its course and the high bidder at that time will win this fantastic Torino.
(and whoever that ends up being, will be VERY happy~!

Expert: 54.5 mpg CAFE standard can be reached without many plug-ins

Sat, Jan 18 2014

Johnson Controls executive Brian Kesseler isn't likely to get any holiday presents this year from Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn or Tesla Motors head Elon Musk, but lots of other folks might be happy with what he has to say about automakers' efforts to reach stricter fleetwide fuel-economy standards. Speaking at the Automotive News World Congress, Kesseler said automakers wouldn't need to sell an extensive number of plug-in vehicles in order to meet the 54.5 mile per gallon Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard the US government set in 2012 for 2025 model-year vehicles. In fact, he said, components such as stop-start engine technology, turbochargers and direct injection may actually do the trick. Already, things like smaller engine sizes and lighter cars are already playing major roles in spurring fuel-efficiency gains. Of course, Johnson Controls sells batteries specially built for stop-start systems, so Kesseler does have a bit of skin in this game. The 54.5-mpg CAFE standard equates to about a 40-mpg "real world" fuel-efficiency level. To put that into perspective, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said in a report late last year that model-year 2013 average fuel economy was an even 24 mpg. That was up from 23.6 mpg for the 2012 model year and 22.4 mpg for 2011. 10 most memorable cars and SUVs of 2019

Tue, Dec 24 2019

It's no surprise that a car reviewer will drive a large number of cars over the course of a year. Indeed, when the clock strikes midnight on Dec 31, I will have driven 75 new cars, trucks and SUV this year (and one old Peugeot) over the course of weekly evaluation loans and first drive events. That sure seems like a lot. Some definitely got more attention than others, and some came and went without leaving much of an impression – I completely forgot I drove a Kia Forte. Yet in the spirit of this day, I thought I'd pick the 10 that I would love to see under the Christmas tree tomorrow morning. You know, just in case you were looking to get me something. I'll also throw in a couple disappointments that were memorable for the wrong reasons. They'd get sent back to the store on Boxing Day. Lexus LC 500 Pictured below and resplendent in its Flare Yellow metallic paint, the car that would reach highest on my list is the divine Lexus LC 500. As a devout lover of GT cars, the LC ticks all the boxes. Muscular and characterful engine? V8, check. Beautifully made and memorable interior? It's gorgeous, to hell with Remote Touch. Check. Comfortable and reasonably practical? Superb seats and, uh, yeah. Makes me want to stand there and stare at it? You bet. Though I long figured my heart would say LC but my head "Porsche 911," after this go-around, that's no longer the case. LC, pretty please. 2020-lexus-lc500-f34-2 View 19 Photos Polestar 1 I actually feel lucky that I got to drive the Polestar 1. Only 150 will be produced each year, and it's a far more special thing than it would initially appear. And that's despite initially appearing to be a beautiful, classic two-door GT car with a roof so rakish it's only possible because it's made of carbon fiber. That itÂ’s a massively powerful plug-in hybrid with more all-electric range than any other PHEV is a thick dollop of whipped cream on a slice of Toscakaka. You know, Swedish dessert, Swedish car. Fine, I'll stick to Ikea references.  Polestar1_Launch_SanFrancisco-0014 View 44 Photos Volvo V60 Cross Country Speaking of Sweden, did I drive this car off the road there? Sure did! And despite this, the V60 Cross Country scratches that certain wagon itch and looks sensational to boot. I wish it were available with the T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain, but it's best not to get greedy at Christmas.

Man chases down truck thief and steams it all on Facebook

Thu, Oct 13 2016

A Washington man chased down a truck stolen from his family's dealership last Saturday and livestreamed the event on Facebook. According to KOMO, a 2005 Ford F-250 was stolen from Sunrise Auto Sales in Eatonville, Washington on the morning of October 8. Aaron Babcock, who co-owns the small dealership with his father David, told reporters that after reviewing surveillance footage, he later spotted the truck while riding his motorcycle on Webster Road East. "I watched my cameras and found the video of a man lurking around and ending up taking off with my truck," Babcock told KOMO. "Cops came and made a case. Three hours later I was on my motorcycle in Graham, and they drove by me oncoming. It still had dealer stickers on it. It said diesel on the window and it had our dealer plate on it. It stuck out like a sore thumb. It was really easy to see." Once he spotted the stolen Super Duty, he wheeled his bike around and gave chase. He attempted to call 911, but was unsure if the dispatcher heard him due to noise from the wind and the bike's engine. So he fired up Facebook live and started streaming his chase, giving running commentary and updating his location as he chased the slow-moving truck. "I wasn't going to let him get away. I was going to try follow him down. I had no idea what to do," Babcock said. "Nobody could hear me on the phone so I just figured the first thing to do is pull up Facebook live." Babcock's Facebook friends pitched in by calling 911 to report the chase and even jumping in their own cars to follow the truck. At one point, he pulled alongside the truck and recognized both men in the cab. The driver was the man seen lurking around the dealer lot in the surveillance video, and the passenger was an old friend of Babcock's. "I know who you are!" he shouted at them, but the hunkered down and kept driving. Eventually, Babcock lost cell phone signal and the livestream ended. Eatonville police, who by this point were well aware of the incident, caught up with the truck in the 8400 block of 356th Street South in Eatonville. The driver was arrested and the passenger was questioned and released. Both denied stealing the vehicle or knowing it was stolen. Two sets of keys from Sunrise Auto Sales and a stolen credit card were also recovered from the truck. Related Video
