1930 Model A 5 Window Coupe
You are viewing a very cool 50’s style Model A Hot Rod. The car was fully restored as stock in the 80’s. Purchased 5 years ago with all updates done in the last 2 years as stated in the rest of the description. Less than 50 miles on the car since completed. Vern Tardel AV8 method was used on most everything in the build.
Please read on for more particulars of the car:
Body/Paint: The body is all steel with the exception of the front fenders, which are fiberglass and were installed on the car when it was initially restored in the 80’s. Rear fenders and running boards are steel. The body is in overall very good condition with some small rust areas, but mostly surface rust. New trunk floor with POR15. The paint is butternut, which looks like a cream with a slight amount of yellow. The paint is single stage with a few chips and scratches, but has just the right amount of patina. Fenders are black and in excellent condition. Overall great hot rod look with no need to address anything regarding body or paint. It is just right the way it is. Gas tank in original cowl location. Engine side panels come with the car, but are not altered to fit with the exhaust pipes. The firewall is uncut and the grill shell has not been moved. Head lights are stock and work well.
Interior: The interior is very presentable and comfortable for a Model A. The material used looks period correct and fits with the rest of the look of the car. Original gauge bezel with gas float that works. Odometer works, amp, key and speedo, all work. Added SW temp and oil pressure gauges with chrome bezel. Vintage Sun “Football” 6V tachometer with updated sender box with solid state conversion that works great. Light switch and push bottom start, both new as well as the ignition switch with 2 keys. Emergency brake handle in place, not functional, but can be. 42 Chevrolet Fleet Master steering wheel on Ford column in excellent condition. The Chevy splines were welded to the column. Horn works, but not hooked up to the steering wheel. No wipers, but comes with original vacuum motor. No turn signals. No seat belts. New floor. Custom bent shifter with glass shift knob.
Running Gear: 50 8BA flathead rebuilt as stock and runs excellent. Offenhauser polished aluminum intake with two Stromberg 94’s, rebuilt. Mallory dual point distributor, battery and voltage regulator are new. Generator is rebuilt (6 volt). New water pumps, fuel pump, hoses and engine mounts. Great oil pressure. Transmission is rebuilt 39 Ford with new clutch and F1 transmission cross member. Custom column drop and spacer between the torque tube and transmission. Pedals are Zephyr. Rebuilt Model A Banjo Rear end with low gears. New aluminum radiator. Runs cool. All new cloth covered traditional wiring. Rebuilt F1/A steering box.
Suspension: Dropped and drilled front axle with new kingpins/bushings and tie rods. Front wish bones are 32 drilled and un split with stock rears, not drilled. Friction shocks on the front, no shocks on the rear. Stock frame with new Model T rear spring. The bottom side of the car and frame is restored and is super clean and looks new. All new wood blocks with rubber between frame and body. All excess holes in the frame have been filled and ground smooth and painted.
Brakes: Brakes are fully restored 40 Ford all the way around and work excellent. New lines, cylinders and dual master cylinder with drilled brake backing plates.
Glass: Replaced in very good condition with slight tint.
Exhaust: Hand built tig welded headers pipes.
Bright work: Chrome and bright work in overall good condition with some original patina such as the door cranks. Fits the car well.
Wheels/Tires: 40 Ford wheels with caps and beauty rings. Firestone tires with 5.50 16 fronts and 7.50 16 rears with very few miles. Nice set up and stance. Summary: The car is very reliable and can be driven anywhere. Done, dialed in and ready to go and be enjoyed by new owner. Classic example of an early American Hot Rod and needs nothing. I have over 100 pictures of the car so please contact me and provide your email address if you would like additional pictures. Disclaimer: The car is for sale locally. The owner has the right to cancel the auction at any time for any reason. No warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied with the car being sold in "AS IS" condition. Obama to herald auto industry turnaround from idled Ford plant
Tue, Jan 6 2015President Barack Obama will tout the recent successes of the American auto industry in a speech on Wednesday. This would be a fine and dandy plan aside from two small hitches. First, the president is visiting Ford's Wayne, MI factory, which is rather strange considering the government bailed out the company's local rivals, Chrysler and General Motors. Even more worrying, considering the topic of the speech, is that the Wayne facility has been idled due to a lack of demand. According to The Detroit News, the White House said the speech will focus on "the workers in the resurgent American automotive and manufacturing sector now that the auto rescue has been completed and the decision to save the auto industry and the over one million jobs that went with it." Wayne Assembly employs some 5,100 Michiganders when its lines are up and running, but as gas prices have plunged below $2 per gallon in some areas over the past month, its fuel-efficient products – the Focus and C-Max – have seen their sales plummet, as well. In December, the Focus' year-over-year sales were down 4.4 percent, while the C-Max dipped 3.3 percent, Ford told The News. Lagging sales for the two compacts aren't a new thing, though. Focus sales in all of 2014 were down 6.4 percent, while the C-Max struggled with a 21.6-percent drop last year. According to The News, Ford made the decision to idle the factory before being approached by the White House. Considering that, we wonder what the team at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was thinking when it selected the Ford facility, and what impact the location will have on the president's message. Ford decides C-Max shoppers not interested in fuel economy
Sat, Oct 25 2014If you say a car – the Ford C-Max Hybrid, for example – is "fun to drive," can anyone really come up with some empirical evidence against your claim? What about calling it "versatile"? We wonder if Ford has been thinking along these lines when it talks about the green little hatch. Ford is refocusing its sales strategy for the C-Max Hybrid after the model took a sales hit on both sides of the Atlantic recently, Automotive News reports. That sales dropoff may stem from the fact that Ford has had to revise its fuel-economy figures downward for the C-Max twice since last year, most recently in June. That made the company's once-proud fuel-economy comparisons with the Toyota Prius kind of pointless. Ford is going a different route, calling the model versatile (which, to be fair it was also doing a year ago), technologically advanced and fun to drive. Since the C-Max has about 50 more horsepower than the Prius, that last part may be true. Ford representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from AutoblogGreen about the mpg-mention-free advertising direction, but we will update this post if we hear back. Sales of the C-Max Hybrid have suffered in the US. Through September, Ford sold 15,245 C-Max Hybrids, down 36 percent from last year. We shall see if a new focus away from the car's lowered mpg numbers helps. At least Ford can be pleased with sales of the C-Max Energi Plug-in Hybrid, which are up 51 percent compared to 2013.
Detroit 3 and UAW set for showdown over tiered wages
Mon, Mar 23 2015This week, thousands of United Auto Workers will converge on Cobo Center in Detroit for the Special Convention on Collective Bargaining, an every-four-year event that lets members tell UAW leaders what the negotiating priorities should be during contract negotiations. This is where a lot of sand and a lot of lines start coming together in preparation for contract negotiations between the UAW and the Detroit 3 automakers, which will happen later this year. Number one on the UAW agenda is the end of the two-tier wage system created in 2007 to help the automakers get through bankruptcy; veteran workers are paid the Tier 1 rate of around $29.00 per hour, new hires are paid the Tier 2 rate of between $15 and $20 and get about half the benefits of Tier 1. Tier 2 hiring has been an undoubted success for the automakers, allowing them to keep factories in the US and hire more workers. By agreement, it is capped at a certain percentage of each automaker's workforce, and while the union's ultimate position is to get rid of the dual-scale system entirely; one leader said Ford could easily afford the $335 million it would take to convert all its workers to Tier 1 out of its $6.9 billion in 2014 North American profit, and General Motors could do the same out of the $5 billion it is handing to investors through the (admittedly forced) share buyback. Other delegates say that at the very least they'd be happy with enforcement of the current caps in the new contract. The automakers, conversely, would welcome expansion of the Tier 2 ranks. Including benefits, import automakers pay workers "in the high $40 range" per hour, according to an analyst, while Ford and GM pay about $59 in wages and benefits per hour. More Tier 2 workers on the rolls would let those two companies get labor cost parity with the competition. Fiat-Chrysler pays wages closer to the imports because of special exceptions in its UAW contract that allow unlimited Tier 2 hiring; those exceptions will end on September 14 and bring FCA into line with the other domestics, unless the new contract maintains them. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne is opposed to the two-tier system, having called it "almost offensive." One analyst says the UAW might win a sizable pay raise for Tier 2 and a small increase for Tier 1, but the keystone issue will be how the hiring matrix can help the automakers keep overall wages in line with the imports.
