A lot of newer street rodders don't appreciate the vintage ‘29 Ford as much as their 32's but this one is sure to give them a run for their money. It is done in such a way as to combine the two looks into one cool machine. The major difference is you can get this one for a fraction of the price! A lot of the street rods around nowadays are new age fiberglass but this one is an ALL STEEL Henry Ford body. That means it was created and rolled out of the factory 85 years ago! The fact that it is still around and laser straight is absolutely amazing! The 1929 Ford body is nicely mounted to the 32' Ford frame giving it some extra length for the chrome spreader bar. The front end looks even more like a 32' with the addition of the 32' steel grill shell. The chrome grill has a great shine along with the Ford logo and trim. The body, frame, and grill shell are all coated in bright yellow and is buffed out to a great shine. Pin striping by the legendary Larry West who designed the Coors graphic on Bill Elliott’s NASCAR T-Bird. When we say this is a nostalgic old-school hot rod we should probably explain what we mean. It's not that this car was done in this style recently. No. This style actually started the trend in the late 50s and early ‘60s! Being built in the late 50's this is what people are after when they are currently building "old school" rods. The car was later restored in 2000, refreshed in 2011 and refreshed again in 2013. Large chrome front headlights and circle frenched purple-dot taillights. The trunk utilizes all chrome hardware including the hinges and is louvered. In true nostalgia style the car rolls around on American Racing Torque Thrust D wheels with white wall tires (all with fewer than 300 miles). And 4-wheel disc brakes added last year.

Engine was torn-down and rebuilt by TDS in Covington (Travis Domini, who has built 4 motors for me, both for street and strip. I swear by him.) replacing what needed to be replaced. Runs GREAT! Less than 300 miles since rebuild.

The interior of the car is nicely finished out with two Black bucket seats that are very comfortable. The dash is topped with Stewart Warner wing gauges mounted in a nice brushed bezel. On the floorboard is mounted the Lokar shifter. An aftermarket steering wheel is nicely mounted in place with a nice chrome horn button. To the column a tachometer has been added and works just as it should. All of the rubbers have been replaced on the car when it was entirely gone through.

So, what’s wrong with it? A minor sign of wear on the left rear upholstery panel (see pic). The speedometer is not accurate. There is a gizmo to correct that but I have never bothered with it. Parking brake is not working. It is the drive shaft parking brake variety.

This is NOT a show car. It is a fun, nostalgia hot rod meant to be driven and enjoyed.

Cars of this age are not titled in Georgia where the car resides. It does have Texas title.

Has the 2015 Ford Mustang gained hundreds of pounds?

Sun, 01 Jun 2014

Automakers face competing interests when it comes to developing a new generation of vehicle. On the one hand, companies want to build their cars to be safer and better handling, with more equipment and maybe even larger dimensions over the model it's replacing. On the other hand, they strive to keep weight down to the benefit of both performance and fuel consumption. Usually something has to give, and in the case of the new 2015 Ford Mustang, those efforts may have resulted in a weight penalty of two or three hundred pounds.
This according to Blue Oval modifier Steeda Autosports, which states that "the 2015 Mustang ended up gaining 200-300 pounds in this remake". Despite the Mustang not being on the market yet, it would appear the leading Ford aftermarketer has been given early access to the 2015 model to help jumpstart its tuning efforts (a rather common development among trusted tuners). If Steeda's assertion is accurate, that would make the challenge of getting the new pony car up to speed for both Ford and aftermarket customizers like Steeda that much greater.
We're waiting for official word from Ford on the veracity of Steeda's claim, but if true, it's bound to be a bit of disappointing news for legions of Blue Oval performance enthusiasts. Watch this space for more.

Ford Mustang SVT caught looking fierce on the 'Ring

Tue, 15 Jul 2014

The next-generation Ford Mustang SVT is one of the most anticipated performance cars of the moment. We've already seen it testing multiple times, but it has always been covered is some very heavy camouflage. However, Ford has just given us our best view yet of the new muscle car. According to our spy photographer, the Mustang was at the Nürburgring for high-speed testing, which meant that the Blue Oval had to remove most of the heavy obfuscation that the SVT has worn previously.
The stylish, more revealing camo makes picking out some of the more interesting details about the SVT rather easy. Starting from the front, there is the big hood scoop to feed cold air to its still mysterious engine. You can also immediately make out the model's new grille and lower front air dam. It has a vertical piece running from the bottom of the hood all the way to the ground. The aggressive styling almost gives the 'Stang the look of two fangs ready to bite down. The hood seam is even taped off here, which shows us its outline.
Around the side, it appears that the front and rear fenders are wider than stock, and the sills are certainly much larger. You can also just make out the SVT's bigger brakes behind its black wheels with a polished lip. Finally, at the rear, things appear mostly stock other than the diffuser that the exhaust outlets nestle into.

China takes lead as GM's No. 1 market

Tue, 09 Jul 2013

It's happened. General Motors' biggest vehicle market - at least in terms of new model sales - is China. According to TheDetroitBureau.com, GM and its various Chinese joint venture operations enjoyed a 10.6-percent sales increase in the first half of 2013, selling almost 1.6 million units in the market. That puts GM China about 200,000 units ahead of its US sales totals over the same period - this, despite indicators that the communist nation's economy is losing momentum.
TDB notes that like GM, rival Ford has also enjoyed a robust 2013 in China thus far, with its sales up a whopping 47 percent to 407,721 units sold - 75,254 of them in June alone. Between the two US automakers, passenger car sales for the first half of 2013 are up around 14 percent, well ahead of the rest of the industry's 10-percent growth estimates for the market. Some of the sales growth may come as a result of an overall anti-Japan sentiment in China, though the American brands have long outsold their Japanese counterparts in the country.
By The General's own predictions, China will only continue to grow in sales importance. The company has designs on selling over five million cars a year in the market before the end of the decade, a total that figures to dramatically widen the gap versus its US totals - even if America's auto market makes a full recovery to the the salad days of over 17-million units a year.
