HISTORY OF CAR: I BOUGHT THE TRUCK BACK IN FEBUARY.  I BOUGHT IT TO USE IT AS A WORK TRUCK FOR A HOUSE I WAS REHABING.  I JUST FINISHED THE HOUSE AND NO LONGER NEED THE TRUCK.  I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM AN INSURANCE COMPANY...IT HAS A REBUILT TITLE DUE TO HAIL DAMAGE TO THE HOOD.  THERE IS ONLY A FEW SMALL DINGS IN THE HOOD AND HARDLY NOTICABLE, THEY DONT REALLY SHOW UP ON PICTURES BECAUSE THEY ARE SMALL.  THE TRUCK HAS 348K MILES BUT RUNS AND DRIVES GOOD.  ENGINE IS REALLY STRONG AND DOESNT SMOKE, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SMOOTHLY THRU ALL GEARS.

THIS IS A CENTAURUS HAULER EDITION FORD F350.  THEY WERE CUSTOM MADE WHEN NEW BACK IN 1996.

EXTERIOR: THE TRUCKS EXTERIOR IS IN AVERAGE CONDITION. TWO TONE PAINT JOB.  FEW HAIL DINGS ON THE HOOD. PASSENGER SIDE HOOD HINGE IS RAISED UP ABOUT AN INCH BEYOND BEING FLUSH WITH THE FRONT FENDER.  FRONT LOWER SPOILER HAS SOME DAMAGE, DRIVERS SIDE DUALLY FENDER HAS ALOT OF PAINT CHIPS OUT OF IT,  REAR TAILGATE TOP DENTED.  I TOOK CLOSE UP PICS OF ALL THE DAMAGE.  HAS A GOOSENECK HITCH IN THE BED.

INTERIOR: LEATHER SEATS AND CARPET ARE IN GOOD CONDITION OTHER THAN DRIVERS SEAT CORNER, IT IS TORN AS PICTURED. TINTED WINDOWS ALL THE WAY AROUND.  REAR POWER FOLDING SEAT FOLDS DOWN INTO A BED.  WOOD ACCENTS THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK. WOOD CENTER CONSOL CLEAR COAT IS PEELING OFF IN A FEW PLACES.

WHEELS/TIRES: THE TRUCK HAS ALCOA WHEELS THAT ARE IN GOOD CONDITION.  TIRES ARE FAIR AND ALL HOLD AIR.

MOTOR: THE 7.3L TURBO DIESEL RUNS GREAT.  DOESNT SMOKE. HAS PLENTY OF POWER. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SMOOTHLY THRU ALL GEARS.  I CHANGED THE ENGINE OIL AND TRANSMISSION OIL WHEN I BOUGHT IT BACK IN FEBUARY.

ELECTRONICS:  RADIO WORKS.   ALL THE LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS WORK.   COLD AC. POWER WINDOWS, POWER LOCKS, AND POWER SEATS. WORKING CRUISE CONTROL.  ALL THE GAUGES WORK WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FUEL GAUGE, IT WORKS INTERMITTENTLY.  HAS A RADAR DETECTOR IN THE UPPER CONSOL.  MOOD LIGHTS.  BRAKE CONTROLLER.

THE FORD F350 HAS A REBUILT TITLE. IT WAS NOT A IN WRECK, IT HAS SOME HAIL DAMAGE TO HOOD.  I HAVE THE TITLE IN HAND, IT HAS NO LIENS ON IT. THE TITLE IS IN MY NAME.

Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner

Sat, 24 Aug 2013

For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"

2015 Ford Focus Electric hides in plain sight

Wed, 16 Apr 2014

The styling changes to the 2015 Ford Focus were shown off at the recent Geneva Motor Show, so what the EV version looks like is not that much of a surprise. Still, the 2015 Focus Electric is making its world debut here at the New York Auto Show, so we wanted to know what changes we are looking at compared to both the internal combustion engine version and the earlier EV models.
The exterior visual distinctions between the ICE and EV are minimal, and basically nonexistent from the A-pillar to the rear. Up front, you can see the charge port, of course, but the front fascia has also undergone a bit of an adjustment. The front doesn't have the ICE version's flattened grille and the EV's Ford logo creates a bump in the hood line where none exists on the ICE. The 2015's grille is also different than the one on the 2014 Focus Electric, being slightly smaller (you can see this better if you compare pictures in our new gallery above to these of the 2011 Focus Electric and these of the gas-powered 2015 Focus).
The updated 2015 interior - which we couldn't access ourselves - has things like a new center stack, improved cupholders and is basically identical between the gas and electric models. With the car off, you can't even tell if you're in an EV or ICE, Seema Bardwaj, the US brand manager for the Focus, told AutoblogGreen. The only things that are different, she said, are extra menu screens to show EV powertrain information to the driver.

2015 Ford Focus

Tue, 14 Oct 2014

Sitting down at the pre-drive briefing with Ford engineers ahead of sampling the refreshed 2015 Focus, water bottles clinked as we wet our whistles before Q&A. While pouring a glass, we noticed something stamped on the bottle label: "1L." One liter. We were palming the exact displacement of the EcoBoost engine our group was about to drive. This was undoubtedly coincidence (such bottles litter every conference and dinner table in Europe) but it served to drive home just how small the total swept volume of Ford's wunderkind powerplant really is. It's tiny.
Of course, this isn't our first run-in with the little triple - we've sampled its turbocharged charms before in Ford's smaller Fiesta. At that time, we found it had plenty of poke for the subcompact, but the larger C-segment Focus carries around another 450 pounds or so and pushes a wider profile through the air. Would the three-cylinder have the stuffing to make the most of the Focus' athletic chassis, or would it be a letdown? Would it be the same as it was when we tested it in a Euro-spec Focus a couple of years ago? There was nothing left for it but to head out on the bucolic roads surrounding Versailles the day after the Paris Motor Show and find out for ourselves.
