This Datsun is not and was never intended to be built as a restoration project. This car was never intended to be built and brought back to stock formation. The whole idea of this car was to make a cool looking, cool sounding, fast street car that could be enjoyed in all driving conditions. Though the list of "negatives" are higher, be known its all smaller stuff. This car as is, right now, is a complete turn key car. The car doesn't leak, smoke, or make any weird noises from the motor or transmission. You turn the key, and it starts right up, idles fine on its own and will drive down the street. All the lights, blinkers, horn, gauges, wipers, radio and interior climate fan work as should. The motor pulls strong and the Transmission shifts smooth. The clutch grabs firm, yet easy to handle. The car brakes just fine and steers straight.
mods are as follow: Suspension: Struts with coil-over sleeves. Poly bushings here and there (not complete set). Drive-Line: OBD2 Lt1 with T56 trans. GM "hot cam" performance kit electric water pump big aluminum Rad with multi-speed fan. Vortech V2 supercharger with Vortech Water to air Inter-cooler. Crane digital ignition system with on the fly timing control dial. 300zx LSD diff and axles. Brakes wheels: Sparco lightweight 17" wheels Wilwood stage 3 kit: floating rotors and 4 piston calipers on all 4 corners 5-lug conversion. Please call with any serious questions, I will be happy to answer as much as possible!(704-756-2146) For reference, I did NOT build this car. An older gentleman did, and he has passed away. Therefore, I do NOT have every ounce of knowledge about this Datsun. Video of a cold start can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW-pLTpLzq4 |

Fiat contemplating sub-brand to compete with Dacia, Datsun
Tue, 05 Feb 2013You can add Fiat to the admittedly short list of automakers considering a low-cost brand to rival Dacia. The inexpensive Eastern European brand from Renault-Nissan has performed on the balance sheet like a premium model line, and the money the alliance is taking off the table is encouraging other players to deal themselves in. Pretty soon Nissan's Datsun sub-brand will join the Dacia party, going on sale in Russia, Indonesia and India and will claim even more rubles, rupiahs and rupees for the parent company. Volkswagen recently said it will make a decision this year on a budget line for the Chinese market. With the euthanasia of Lancia and plans to move the Fiat brand upmarket, company CEO Sergio Marchionne wonders aloud to Automotive News Europe whether there could be room for a new budget brand underneath Fiat.
We're told that the initiative has been in the idea box for five years and even moved to the stage of name considerations, like Innocenti, but worries about profit kept it from realization. If such a range were to be developed, Marchionne says it couldn't be built in Italy and stay within budget, and the company is "analyzing its manufacturing capacity outside of Europe to see if a low-cost brand is viable."
37K miles in a 1967 Datsun Roadster
Tue, 11 Mar 2014When we think of comfy, long-distance road cars, there are a few obvious choices. A Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Bentley Continental GT or, assuming fuel efficiency isn't paramount, a Range Rover are all good options for a road trip. But what if that road trip was 37,000 miles? Maybe something more reliable but still comfortable, then, like a Honda Accord. What about a 1967 Datsun Roadster?
As insane as it sounds, Scott Fisher is doing just that, running a Datsun 1600 Roadster across North America and racking up 13,500 miles in his first three months on the road. His total journey will see him pile over 37,000 miles on his red convertible. The car is lightly modified, but most of the work is for the sake of reliability and comfort, with a five-speed manual 'box, an upgraded radiator and electronic ignition.
Fisher's trip hasn't been all smooth, with a few typical bits of trouble. He also ran into some deer in Utah, quite literally, clipping one of the animals, which delivered quite a bit of damage to the passenger's front fender (hence the rear three-quarter view in our lead shot). Still, the car seems to be holding up well, as shown in this latest video from Petrolicious.
Datsun officially reborn with Go model for India [w/video]
Mon, 15 Jul 2013In March of 2012, Nissan announced the return of its historic Datsun brand. Datsun used to represent the Nissan brand in a number of markets, but its badge hasn't been worn on a new model since 1981. In 2013, though, it has been relaunched as the Japanese manufacturer's budget offering in the emerging markets of India and Russia.
The model that will lead that charge, at least in India, is the Go, a car that pays tribute to the very first Datsun, the DAT-GO.
The operative term with the Datsun brand is: "budget offering." Don't step inside the Go and expect beautiful hides or brushed metals (it's being sold in India, after all). The instrument cluster features a simple speedometer, while the five-speed manual and the center stack above it are rather barren. It's not without luxuries, though, as iPod-style connectivity is available through a Mobile Docking Station.
