1979 Chevy, Chevrolet, Luv Pickup In Excellent Condition With Low Miles on 2040-cars
Winona, Minnesota, United States
I have for sale an unmodified and un-restored 1979 Chevy LUV
pickup with 41XXX miles. It is in amazing and unbelievable condition,
particularly so when considering that it is a totally rust-free vehicle from
Minnesota. The body is nearly perfect with no damage and only superficial
storage blemishes to the non-original but OEM color paint. The cab and box
interiors, under hood and under truck are factory original paint and there is
no evidence of repair other than freshening the paint, which was done prior to
10/2008. The truck was also rust proofed, (Ziebart) by the original owner. The
appearance of the protectant looks newly applied even though it is 35 years old
and is apparent in photos of the engine compartment. The mechanicals look
nearly showroom fresh. The original paint application in the engine compartment
and underbody is still beautiful as are the appearance of the aluminum and electroplated
parts and accessories. Photos of the rear brakes clearly show the marvelous
condition of the original assemblies. Even the bias ply tires are in super condition!
The truck runs and drives wonderfully. It does
have power steering, power brakes and an automatic transmission but it is
otherwise a very basic vehicle. There is no AC, power locks, cruise or ANY
sound system. You can see in the photos the radio delete dash and the antennae
plug in the passenger front fender. But, it is unmolested and is ready for any
changes you may see fit to install. There are several things that I did
to prepare this uncommon classic for sale. It’s had a full tune-up and all
points lube. All fluids are fresh within less than 100 miles. The rear axle got
a new pinion seal with Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube. The three-speed automatic
transmission got a new filter and fluid flush with standard Dexron ATF. The
sweet running 1.8L four cylinder has also has a new filter and Mobil 10W-40
oil. The cooling system was flushed and has new 50/50 mix Peak coolant. The
rear bumper was sandblasted and powder coated. The original interior vinyl trim
was replaced with quality custom fabric and trim. There are several items to mention. The front bumper has dent right above the license plate and the opening to the driver side of the plate has been distorted. These areas can be viewed in my photos. Also, the recoil mechanism for the driver side seatbelt is broken. I have been looking for a replacement but I have not been able to find the correct color yet. Finally there is also a crack in the dash pad. Additional photos can be found on my photobucket album. Please contact me for the link I feel it’s important to sell a
quality product as I feel it is a representation of me personally so I took the
truck to a local auto dealership for inspection. The possible weeping coolant
and fuel lines will be addressed very quickly. The inspection was eagerly done
at No Charge because NO ONE at the dealership had ever seen a LUV this nice! I
have not asked the dealer for reference but my service advisor for Dahl
Automotive in Winona, MN, 507/452-4080 was Toby Thompson. He seemed very
enthusiastic to bring in the vehicle and may be receptive to inquiries. On Mar-28-14 at 04:15:43 PDT, seller added the following information: A couple things I forgot. I installed new muffler and tailpipe. Also, I was going to post the reports from Dahl Automotive but I posted too many pics and apparently I can't switch them now. If you want to see them contact me and I'll email copies. The only points noted were weeping from upper radiator hose and similar weeping where a rubber fuel line connects at the fuel pump. |

Cruze Diesel Road Trip reveals the good and bad, but no ugly
Tue, Mar 31 2015Most of us have strong opinions on diesel-powered cars based on our perceptions of and experience with them. I used to thoroughly dislike oil burners for their noise, smoke and lackluster performance, and the fact that they ran on greasy, smelly stuff that was more expensive than gasoline, could be hard to find and was nasty to get on your hands when refueling. Those negatives, for me, trumped diesel's major positives of big torque for strong acceleration and better fuel economy. Are any of those knocks on diesel still valid today? I'm not talking semis, which continue to annoy me when their operators for some reason almost never shut them down. At any busy truck stop, the air seems always filled with the sound – and sometimes smell – of dozens of big-rig diesels idling endlessly and mindlessly. Or diesel heavy-duty pickups. Those muscular workhorses are far more refined than they once were and burn much less fuel than their gasoline counterparts. But good luck arriving home late at night, or departing early morning, without waking your housemates and neighbors with their clattery racket. No, I'm talking diesel-powered passenger cars, which account for more than half the market in Europe (diesel fuel is cheaper there) yet still barely bump the sales charts in North America. Diesel fuel remains more expensive here, too few stations carry it, and too many Americans remember when diesel cars were noisy, smelly slugs. Also, US emissions requirements make them substantially more expensive to certify, and therefore to buy. But put aside (if you can) higher vehicle purchase and fuel prices, and today's diesel cars can be delightful to drive while delivering much better fuel efficiency than gas-powered versions. So far in the US, all except Chevrolet's compact Cruze Diesel come from German brands, and all are amazingly quiet, visually clean (no smoke) and can be torquey-fun to drive. When a GM Powertrain engineering team set out to modify a tried-and-true GM of Europe turbodiesel four for North American Chevy Cruze compacts, says assistant chief engineer Mike Siegrist, it had a clear target in mind: the Volkswagen Jetta TDI 2.0-liter diesel. And they'll tell you that they beat it in nearly every way. "I believe we have a superior product," he says. "It's powerful, efficient and clean, and it will change perceptions of what a diesel car can be." The 2.0L Cruze turbodiesel pumps out 151 SAE certified horses and 264 pound-feet of torque (at just 2,000 rpm) vs.
Chevy monitors drivers' biometrics while experiencing new Corvette Stingray
Fri, 25 Oct 2013We tell you about what a car is like to drive every day, remarking on throttle response, steering weight and feedback, squat, dive, brake fade and a dozen or more other factors of performance. What we can't tell you, though, is what the car does to us - how its performance impacts us, physically. That's what makes this video series from Chevrolet so darn cool.
The Bow-Tie brand rented out Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, got several (very) different individuals together, strapped a bunch of sensors to their bodies to record biometric data ranging from heart rate to respiration to brain activity, and then handed them keys to the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The results are explained in a series of videos, devoted to each driver, showing how different people react to the Corvette's performance.
If, like your author, you're a nerd for medical science, this is going to be a fascinating set of videos. If not, it's still pretty cool to see how the body of someone with racing experience, like Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, reacts to tracking a car like the Corvette Stingray compared to the owner of legendary Detroit barbecue joint, Slows BBQ. Take a look below for all six videos from the series, or hop over to the Corvette Vimeo channel for the interactive experience, where you can see all the different metrics.
GM again delays plant that will build the Silverado EV
Tue, Jul 23 2024 General Motors Co. will again push back the planned opening of an electric pickup truck plant in suburban Detroit and has delayed a Buick plug-in amid uncertain growth in battery-powered car sales. Mary Barra, the company’s chief executive officer, told analysts Tuesday on an earnings conference call the automaker is postponing until mid-2026 the opening of its Orion Assembly factory, which will make the Chevrolet Silverado EV. This is the second delay for the plant, which was originally slated to start production in late 2024. Shares of the automaker fell 4.1% to $47.52 as of 9:39 a.m. in New York. The stock is up about 32% so far this year. The delay is a main reason why GM wonÂ’t be able to meet its previous goal of having production in place to make 1 million EVs by the end of next year. The company said they will add production as buyers show more interest in electric vehicles. “We continue to make sure we continue to scale the business to customers and where they are at,” GM Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson said on a call with reporters. GM reported on Tuesday a 60% jump in second quarter profit compared with a year ago, topping Wall StreetÂ’s expectations on strong demand for its traditional gas-powered trucks in the US market.
