1949 Chevrolet truck with hydraulic dump box.This truck has had many mechanical updates.
A local tech school completely rebuilt the original 216 6 cylinder engine.also they installed a rebuilt carb,distributor,starter and generator. A complete tune up and fuel tank flush was done at the same time.Clutch was replaced as well as having the radiator boiled with new hoses and a new fan belt.The master cylinder was replaced and the wheel cylinders had rebuild kits installed. It runs,drives and stops well.The volt and oil gauge work.The fuel gauge and the headlights work intermittently,which tells me the wiring needs attention.It is still the 6 volt system with a near new 6 volt battery. I installed new hydraulic hoses onto the hoist assembly as well as a new engagement cable.The hoist goes up and down smoothly and will stay in any position you put it in without losing pressure and allowing the box to come down.(there is a slight leak at the resevoir) The box boards are new treated lumber.2x6 on floor and 2x4 side rails.Box is 7ft wide and 8ft long. The body is very solid.the only rust is in the floorboard area which is very common for this style of truck and repair panels are readily available and reasonably priced.The cab corners have surface rust and there are small dings and dents in the rest of the sheet metal. The windows roll up and down and the glass is good except for a small crack in the side window. I have a clear up to date iowa title in my name.The truck is located in Stout Iowa 50673. These cars are headed to the Great Crusher In The Sky
Fri, 24 Aug 2012It happens every year. We bid adieu to some cars and trucks that will be missed, and say good riddance to others wondering how they stayed around so long. Whether they're being killed off for slow sales or due to a new product coming along to replace them, the list of vehicles being discontinued after 2012 is surprisingly long and diverse.
CNN Money has compiled a list of departing vehicles, to which we've added a few more of our own. In the slow sales column, cars like the Lexus HS 250h, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the full Maybach lineup appear, while the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda CX-7 and Hyundai Veracruz are all having their gaps filled with more modern and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Obvious exceptions to the rule include models that still sell in decent numbers like the Jeep Liberty and the Chrysler Town & Country (which will eventually be replaced by a crossover-like vehicle).

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable
Tue, 01 Oct 2013What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.
