This is an original, numbers matching 1962 Impala SS, that I recently found in someone's front yard. It had been sitting there for the past 10 years and never moved. We purchased the car and have spent the past few months giving it a complete cosmetic and mechanical refresh. The car was virtually rust free with exception to two 50 cent size spots on the lower fenders where the lower trim bolted on, which we replaced with metal, and two holes in the hood, which we replaced completely. The floors, trunk, firewall, inner fenders, rockers, roof, cowl and all other metals are completely original and in great shape. This fine example has the original 327/300hp motor w/3 deuce carbs that have been completely overhauled  and a 3 speed transmission that is shifted by a rare column shift option that was available in 62. The car has just been repainted its original 923 Roman Red(base Coat-Clear Coat) and has its original color 875 red interior with a new white headliner and sail panels. We have attempted to leave this car as original as possible, only replacing items that were badly pitted of worn. Along with the car comes the original service book with the original owner, vin and key code(which still cuts keys that work). Besides me, I only know of 2 previous owners and as far as I can tell this is its first fresh paint job.

Also before anyone inquires, there were no 3 deuce factory produced impala 327's. They would have had to be installed at a later date.

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

Chevy Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo concept blends the past and the future

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo is the rare concept car that salutes a seminal moment in history, yet also borders on science fiction.
Revealed Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the concept uses the name of one of Chevy's historic racing partnerships, with Chaparral Racing, which dates to the 1960s. Chaparrals raced successfully at a range of levels, including IndyCar, Trans-Am and SCCA competition.
But the history ends there, as the concept's main purpose is as a racecar in a downloadable update for the PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 6.

Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.
