The car has been professionally built from the ground up by Dave Zent and Bill Petrino of D&M Auto. Please understand that this is NOT a trailer queen nor is it a race car. This is a fresh build and a stupid fast cruiser with some minor flaws so I don't have a heart attack if someone comes close to the car! It's useable! The transmission is a GM 700R4 4-speed automatic, custom built by Aztec Transmissions and has a Hughes Stage II kit with 3000 rpm converter, Hughes racing clutches, pump and sprag. The driveshaft was cut, custom balanced and has Brute Force universal joints. The third member is the factory 12-bolt, but with a billet aluminum differential cover with adjustable bearing support studs, a new Eaton positraction carrier, Sierra Performance 3.73 gears and new Sierra axles. A B&M transmission cooler sits under the front of the car, and a B&M Quicksilver ratchet-style shifter is floor mounted.
The engine is 461 cubic inches with Mahle triple-coated forged pistons and hand-finished rings, ARP bolts and studs throughout, Brodix Race-Rite aluminum heads, Lunati hydraulic roller cam (.578/.595 @ 232/242), lifters and rockers, Cometic .051 triple-steel-layered gaskets. Compression is approximately 10:8 to 1. The intake is an Edelbrock Performer with a 770 cfm Holley Ultra Street Avenger carburetor (in red anodizing), polished and balanced truck rods, Moroso deep sump pan, Melling high-volume oil pump, Summit full-flow air cleaner system, MSD 6AL ignition, MSD "Streetfire" HEI distributor and MSD 8.5 mm red Super Conductor wires on billet looms. It is conservatively red-lined at 6400 rpm (you'll get the other 4 chips in the MSD set to change this setting if you like). The crank was cross drilled, ground, polished, chamfered and balanced separately. The engine has been decked, balanced, blueprinted and polished. It has been built to the correct tolerances to allow an added Nitrous system if desired. It sports Hooker 2" Competition Headers with 3.5" collectors, all ceramically thermal-coated. The whole works sits on new polyurethane engine mounts. It has not been dynoed, but a good guess is in the 700 horsepower range with ungodly amounts of torque. It needs a little "help" at the gas pump from either VP C-12, Trick 110, or Torco 110 race fuel--but about one gallon per tankful will do it. This car is street legal in Arizona if insured as a classic/collector car. Your state may be different--no refunds, so check first!
Keeping it cool is a Ron Davis Racing Products NASCAR-style radiator with twin automatic 17" Spal fans sitting on a new core support. Most of the front pulleys on the engine are billet aluminum (March Performance, etc.), The exhaust is Flowmaster with 2 1/2" tubes. The car has electric cut-outs from Quick-Time Performance: a switch on the dash allows wide open pipes in less than 5 seconds. (They can be "cracked open a little" for a nice attention-getting cackle--somewhat frowned upon by local law enforcement and neighbors with small glass knick-knacks on their shelves!)
The bed has some minor dents and has a older Line-X coating which itself has been coated in Aerospace 303, giving it a new look and top-of-the-line protection from the sun. But you can use this El Camino without taking blood-pressure medication for fear you'll ruin something, which is what I wanted! Inner fenders are new, gas tank is new, and entire undercarriage has fresh paint and undercoating protection. Most of the chrome is new, front and rear bumpers are new, new grille, new taillight housings and lens, new back-up lens, new gas tank, etc. (You get the idea). Paint is very good and generally eye-catching if not perfect. The paint was generally "refreshed and polished" in January (some pictures included) by JV Auto Body. The body sits on new polyurethane bushings. The suspension (all Hotchkis) is front and rear coil springs, front and rear solid sway bars, upper and lower trailing arms, with a pair of Edelbrock adjustable upper control arms.. Summit adjustable 90/10 shocks on the front can't move the Hotchkis suspension! Wheels are 18x8 inch American Racing Equipment TorqLites with back tires being a $900 pair of street legal Continental Extreme Contact 275/40/R18 with 10" treads (didn't want to cut the body panels). Car will NOT hook up with these tires, so throttle feathering is necessary to start. Even so, the car will do 0 to 60 in 5.0 seconds without full throttle. Disc brakes on all four corners are Wilwood Pro Series/Big Brake with 12.18" rotors which are zinc coated (extra $) slotted and drilled (extra $) with red powder coated multi-piston calipers (extra $), new lines, reservoir, master cylinder, etc.
The interior had just been replaced before I bought the car, so door panels and headliner are pristine and were kept. The carpet is new and hides a NASA-developed insulating heat barrier protecting a complete new floor pan, The dash itself is a new SS panel with all new vents, knobs and ash tray, the dash cluster is new, the dash padding is new and Dakota Digital gauges have been installed, with extra modules for cruise control, dash dimmer, automatic headlights, outside temperature, compass, interior lights, etc. Dash includes a 0 to 60 timer, quarter mile timer for speed and ET, two trip odometers, miles to kilometers setting, etc. The dash also shows your gear when the shifter is ratcheted. Illuminated billet aluminum switches operate new power window mechanisms and motors. Fresh window tint was recently applied to side and back windows by Unique Window Tinting. The car uses the factory vents for the new Classic Auto Air R134a Air Conditioning system. A new top of the line Sony X-Plod stereo was custom installed by "Carlito's Specs, Inc." and includes 6 speakers and a power antenna (yes, a special safety drain was installed). The radio is HD with CD player, satellite capable, and can handle flash drives and I-pod plug ins and auxiliary audio devices.. The seats are top-of-the-line Corbeau racing seats in black leather and micro-suede. They have the optional sliders and recliners with wrap-around sides. They are extremely comfortable and could easily handle a cross-country drive. They are fitted with Corbeau's red 4-point adjustable racing harnesses.
I can't list everything, but you can assume that if it was worth replacing, it was replaced--down to the ash tray!! Car has LED taillights, Xenon headlights, new hood pins and hinges. We added so much stuff, the builders had to add two additional fuse panels under the dash to accommodate it all. This car comes with a DVD of about 175 pictures taken during the building process, as well as a box of receipts and technical data sheets. Why am I selling it? We just moved and I have no garage for it. To my knowledge, the car is mechanically perfect and visually stunning, even if slightly flawed cosmetically. It turns heads and gets lots of compliments.
If you have questions, ask. There way more specs and new items than I have listed.

Officially Official: Chevrolet replaces Daewoo name in Korea

There once was a time when Daewoo was one of the biggest companies in South Korea. It was larger than both LG and Samsung, and second only to Hyundai. But these days the name is all but gone.
Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too
Fri, 07 Dec 2012We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.
2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra debut all-new designs, three new engines
Thu, 13 Dec 2012General Motors has finally dropped the curtain on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra. Both trucks have undergone substantial revisions with updated versions of the company's 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 engines. In a shot across the bows of both Ford and Chrysler, GM says it won't use a V6 engine adapted from passenger car applications. Instead, it developed the 4.3-liter engine based on its proven truck-duty architecture.
All three mills will boast direct injection fuel systems as well as a new cylinder head design. Combined with a revised piston, the new engines feature a smaller combustion chamber with a compression ratio of 11:1 or higher depending on the application. Cylinder deactivation and continuously variable valve timing are all part of the recipe, and each engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with auto grade breaking. So far, no fuel economy or horsepower figures have been released, though GM says the new engines will best their predecessors in both areas.
Outside, the trucks feature a number of enhancements to reduce drag and wind noise, and GM claims both the Silverado and Sierra will offer buyers some of the quietest cabins in the class. Extended cab models now feature front-hinged rear doors to allow easier access to the back passenger area, and Crew Cab buyers can now select between a five-foot, eight-inch bed or a six-foot, six-inch bed. Buyers with a mind toward going off road will also rejoice in the return of the Z71 package, complete with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and additional under-body protection.
