Repairable Rebuildable Project Light Collision Damage Easy Fixer!!! on 2040-cars
Enfield, Connecticut, United States
This auction is for a 1981 Corvette which has been involved in a front end collision. It was paid off by the former owners insurance company, and I purchased it from their auction. The title has been signed over by the insurance company, but has not been stamped salvage. This may or may not deem the title salvage, depending on your state's laws. The car is in great shape for it's age. The interior looks to have been restored at some point and is in beautiful condition as seen in the pics. The body looks excellent, except for the obvious damage to the front end. I have a lot of experience with C3 Corvettes and this one looks like it had never been hit before. The frame looks straight, I see nothing bent, except possible the horns at the very front, which are very thin and can be moved with a hammer if needed. The remainder of the frame is exceptionally clean for a 33 yr old car. The exhaust is in excellent condition and looks fairly new. The tires look fairly new too, with lots of tread. The car starts right up and idles fine, sounds good, with no noise or smoke. I see a Crane Cam sticker inside the hood, the car has a nice lope to it. Other than that, the engine appears all original, down to the valve covers and air cleaner. It has a small exhaust leak and there is a pair of hoses missing from the AIR pump to the exhaust manifolds. The car drives in the yard. The brakes work but the pedal feels soft. There is an aftermarket stereo in the dash, along with a multi disc CD changer and amp in the back cargo area. The car also has a very nice set of PPG glass t tops. I have all of the damaged parts that I removed from the car and have saved the hardware in Ziploc bags. This car is being relisted due to a non paying bidder. Please do not bid unless you intend to follow through with your commitment. You are bidding to buy the car, not to think about whether you want it or not. If you are a new bidder with zero feedback please email me before bidding or I will cancel your bid. I'm sorry to have to say all of this but some people ruin it for everybody. This car is being sold as a repairable in as is condition, with no warranty. It is the buyer's responsibility to ensure that it has been repaired to roadworthy condition before driving on public roads. Buyer is responsible for shipping, but I can list it on Central Dispatch to help find a ride home for it. We will be glad to help load the car on our end. Please feel free to email me with any questions. |

Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner
Sat, 24 Aug 2013For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
Next-gen Chevy Cruze caught cruising in the cold
Wed, 13 Feb 2013Spy photographers have caught what looks like the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze out on snow patrol. The camo could be tricking our eyes, but it look like it has an even tidier, more rounded front end and even lower fenders in relation to the top of the hood. And either a chunk of camo has been wedged between the side mirrors and the doors, or the mirrors are up for revision, too.
The door handles have been moved up the side of the car, leading the way to a rear end that grows a bit in length. If the rumors are true, the coming second-generation Cruze sits on the new D2XX platform that will replace the Delta and Theta platforms at General Motors. A global architecture, the Cruze will be the first to get it, but it will underpin everything from next Chevrolet Volt to the Equinox and could be responsible for 2.5 million units by 2018. The next Cruze is expected to begin production in GM's Lordstown, Ohio plant in the third quarter of 2014.
First 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray spotted crashed in the wild
Tue, 12 Feb 2013This restyled blue 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is wearing manufacturer plates, and it appears to be the same one seen around the internet in various pictures lately. This crash is likely not part of the Chevrolet testing regimen, however. Digital Corvettes forum member gpetry posted the shot with a note: "got this picture e-mailed from a friend in Arizona last week..." No circumstances are given, other than the incident occurred in the thick of a set of curvy roads, and the coupe ping-ponged off a guardrail and into the rock wall. Hopefully everyone involved in the incident walked away.
It may not be a pretty thing to see, a crashed sports car that's not even available for sale yet, but rest easy. Many pre-production cars are used for development and then unceremoniously crushed and scrapped, anyway. If that's the case here, that makes this wrecked 'Vette less of a tragedy and more of a case of exceptional efficiency.
