Selling my 1996 Corvette convertible, with the awesome LT4 V8 and 6-speed manual transmission.  The car is an absolute blast to drive.   Just nothing like shifting through the gears with a great manual transmission and a powerful V8.

Since you are looking at the ad, I am sure you know what a special engine the LT4 is, and that the '96, being the last year of the C4 body style, was the only year the engine was available in the C4, and then only with a manual transmission.  This car is fairly rare, and has great collector car potential.

The car runs very well, clutch/engine/transmission smooth, the A/C blows ice cold, cruise works, etc.  I took the car on a 2000 mile trip last Spring, and besides being a pleasure to drive on the Interstates, it averaged 26mpg.  The mpg does quickly drop into the teens when you get on it around town however.

Tires are practically new, fluids and filters have been changed (fuel filter is a little tricky to change), and the top is in good condition (though I almost never drive with it up).  Car has about 89k miles.

There is a website where you can download all the options, by VIN, for Corvettes, and it showed this:

Rarity...

There are 1 1996 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE vehicles (0.023%) matching your exact options list. There are 1 (0.023%) with at least as many options.

That rarity thing above, though probably true, does not really mean that much since it is talking about the total combination of options.  The options that will make this a great collector car are the LT4 and convertible on the last year of the C4 body style.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like pictures of something specific.  Vehicle is purchased as is where is, and is not for sale on Craigslist (last time I listed a vehicle someone copied the listing for a scam on Craigslist).

Thanks.

Fri, Mar 31 2023

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Road Test Editor Zac Palmer. They start off with what it was like to be at the reveal for the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 out in Las Vegas. From there, they explore news of the 2024 Acura Integra Type S being revealed to have 5 more horsepower than the Civic Type R. And to round out the news section, there's an Explorer EV out, but it's only for Europe. After that, the two discuss the cars they've been driving, including the 2023 BMW XM, VW Jetta Sport with a manual transmission, our long-term Toyota Sienna minivan and what it was like to charge our long-term Kia EV6 on a Tesla Supercharger. Lastly, the pair spend some money to help a listener buy a car for their daughter who is just starting to drive. GM patent reveals new two-stage turbocharger

Fri, Jun 24 2016

Modern turbochargers may be some of the best ever made, but performance is something that engineers are always trying to improve. According to GM Inside News, General Motors (GM) is hoping to alleviate some of the negative aspects of a two-stage turbocharger setup with a newly-patented design. The patent, that was filed on May 19, 2016, reveals a clever bypass system that allows the engine, a four-cylinder unit, to optimize both the low-pressure and high-pressure inlets for its respective functions. According to the filing, a conventional two-stage turbocharger setup is engineered to allow both turbines to operate simultaneously at low and mid engine speeds. At high engine speeds, only the low-pressure turbine works. The setup can't isolate either the low or high pressure side, which can impair low-end performance. GM's new two-stage turbocharger setup looks to eliminate this by linking the high-pressure turbo to the exhaust manifold through the high-pressure inlet duct. The low-pressure turbo is attached to the high-pressure turbo by a low-pressure inlet duct, which is linked to a connecting channel. A single actuator that is housed in the exhaust manifold creates a bypass that can opens the high-pressure inlet or close the connecting channel. Depending on what the engine load and speed is, the ECU guides the actuator—a single rotating spindle with discs corresponding to flanges on the high and low pressure sides—to isolate one of the two turbos. Isolating the turbos allow the respective inlets to be engineered for the best possible fluid dynamic performance. The setup should increase performance and decrease lag. There's no word on what car this setup will make an appearance on, but it will most likely be used in premium vehicles before trickling down to the rest of GM's vehicles. Recharge Wrap-up: BYD electric buses at Special Olympics, hybrids perform better than rated

Mon, Aug 3 2015

A new study finds that real-world fuel economy of hybrids could be significantly higher than EPA ratings. Researchers at the University of Vermont, with the help of their own "total on-board tailpipe emissions measurement system," found the fuel savings of Toyota Camry Hybrid over a standard Camry to exceed its sticker values by 18 percent on the highway and 33 percent in the city. The results of this study suggest that the projections of the fuel and emissions benefits of hybrids could be adjusted to reflect more these more positive real world values. The study's authors, Britt A. Holmen and Karen M. Sentoff, say more research is warranted based on these findings, and that "similar studies can be used to develop robust models of all types of HEV platforms under actual driving conditions and improve quantitative estimates of the future fleet contributions to the US CO2 emissions inventory and petroleum consumption." Chevy displayed the silver Volt alongside a Camaro and Malibu of the same color and model year. The Volt also recently made an appearance at the premier of Tomorrowland with George Clooney behind the wheel. Read more at The News Wheel. BYD electric buses provided transportation at the Special Olympics 2015 World Games in Long Beach, CA. Shuttling 6,500 athletes required the help of multiple charter companies, including local buses from the Chinese automaker. "BYD stepped up majorly as one of our key supporters and their tremendous efforts made our athletes feel welcomed," says Long Beach Community Foundation President and CEO, and 2015 Host Town Transportation Coordinator Marcelle Epley. "We depended on them, and they came through 100 percent." Both Los Angeles and Long Beach have recently decided to purchase electric buses from BYD. Read more in the press release below.
