For sale a really cool retro 1963 Corvair 6 passenger window van rolling chassis. This van is in above average condition and has all glass intact. It comes with a factory 110 hp 6 cylinder engine and the factory 3sp manual transmission. The engine and tranny were removed from another van I had that rusted out and were running and working fine when removed. They have been stored inside my storage since last year. The van has the typical early GM rust points but the rear passenger floor is solid and I believe the drivers compartment is as solid as well. The van has the optional chrome front and rear bumpers and chrome luggage rack. Exterior body is really straight with an interesting aged paint patina. No crashes and a few dings from trailer loading but easily repaired. All side doors open as well as the rear doors and drivers door. Front passenger door lock is stuck shut but with a little love should be functional. Comes with enough vinyl backed grey carpet to redo headliners or floor or both. A great restoration project that will increase in value over the years. A clear Kansas title is in the mail to replace the one I lost. Thanks and happy bidding. Mike

GM recalling over 243,000 crossovers over possible seat belt defect

The summer of 2010's recall hit parade continues unabated today, with General Motors having just announced that it is asking 243,403 owners of its 2009-2010 Lambda crossovers to bring their three-row haulers in for inspection. The culprit? Second-row seat belts in select Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook CUVs have "failed to perform properly in a crash."
According to GM, a second-row seat-side trim piece is to blame, as it can impede the upward rotation of the buckle after the seat is folded flat. As a result, if the buckle makes contact with the seat frame, cosmetic damage can occur, potentially requiring additional force to operate the buckle properly. So far, no great shakes, but in the process of applying that additional force, the occupant may push the buckle cover down to the strap, potentially revealing and depressing the red release button. As a result of this, the belt may not latch, or in certain cases, it may actually appear to be latched when, in fact, it isn't.

GM says hybrid Corvette no laughing matter [w/poll]

When Mark Reuss was in LA recently, he sat down to have a few words with the scribes at the Los Angeles Times. When the issue of a hybrid Corvette came up, Reuss answered with "Don't laugh." The General Motors president is a complete fan of the possibility, calling it "attractive" and "really fun," believing it would improve GM expertise and that "people would love it."
Naturally, the president being supportive of an idea doesn't give indication that a hybrid Corvette is on the way. However, with supercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari giving hybrid tech a solid, if remote, place in the performance car world, the inexorable trickle-down of technology means we shouldn't be surprised if and when it does happen.
And now that we have that non-negative half-answer to a speculative question, it would be irresponsible for us not to commence rumormilling for the C8 Corvette. Taking Reuss at his word, the C8 will obviously be a hybrid with all-wheel-drive - the left side wheels driven with electric motors, the right side with the mid-mounted, four-cylinder diesel engine. With coefficient of drag of just .16, figure on a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of under 2 seconds and an all-electric range of something like 30 miles at top speed.
