1985 GMC K25 High Sierra 4 x 4 Up for auction is a nice original 1985 GMC K25 Sierra 4 x4 with a 350 ci engine, automatic transmission, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, power windows and locks. The engine has recently (1,000 miles ago) been overhauled from the carburetor to the oil pan. A RV camshaft was installed as well as tubular headers and new dual exhaust. The transfer case was also serviced and had new seals installed at the time of overhaul. The 4x4 functions correctly. The truck cab is sealed very tight, there is very little wind noise going down the road. The brakes are good and steering is tight. The truck has very little rust. It was spot painted years ago but has no bond-o or other rust repair. The factory bench seat has been redone but now has minor rip on the driver side (please see pictures). The air conditioning works but does need charged. The odometer currently reads 14,533 (114,533) but may vary slightly as it is still being driven. Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check
Fri, 01 Mar 2013Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. Supercharged, 6.2-liter V8? Check. Seven-speed manual? Check. Obsession with weight? Check.
What did you expect when Chevrolet said it was bringing a new Corvette variant to the 2014 New York Auto Show? Maybe a sticker and trim package, like the C6 Corvette Grand Sport or a tie-in deal like the Black Widow car from Chicago? On the opposite end, maybe there was an even more hardcore Z06 waiting in the wings. Who knew?
