UP FOR SALE IS A TRULY BEAUTIFUL 1978 CHEVY C-10 2 W/D PICK-UP. THIS IS A LIFE-LONG CALIF CAR, OWNER MOVED HERE TO OREGON ABOUT 5 YRS AGO, BUT WAS FORCED TO MOVE BACK TO CAL. DUE TO FAMILY NEEDS, AND HE WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE THIS BEAUTY WITH HIM. HE HAS OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW AND IT HAS NEVER SEEN RAIN/BAD WEATHER! IT WAS COMPLETELY GONE THROUGH AND UPDATED APPROX 5 YEARS AGO BY A VERY REPUTABLE SHOP IN THE S.F. BAY AREA WHERE IT WAS FITTED WITH A BRAND NEW 540 CI MERLIN BLOCK, WORLD HEADS AND MANY HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE PARTS.IT ALSO WAS FITTED WITH TH400 AND MATED TO A GEAR VENDORS AUTO O/D UNIT SO IT HAS POTENTIALLY 6 SPEEDS, OR WILL SHIFT 1-4 AUTOMATICALLY. IT HAS A 3:73 POSI DIFF AND SITS PERFECTLY LOW.IT HAS AN AUTO-METER ANALOG DASH W/ALL GAUGES, FACTORY A/C , P/W P/B AND A REVAMPED INTERIOR. THIS LITTLE BEAUTY IS A SUPER COOL LITTLE HAULER AND GETS ATTENTION WHEREVER IT GOES. MY INVOLVEMENT IN THIS RIG CAME TO PLAY BECAUSE THE ENGINE AS ORIGINALLY BUILT HAD SOME OIL LEAK ISSUES WHICH THE OWNER WOULD NOT TOLERATE, SO HE BROUGHT IT TO MY SHOP WHERE WE REMOVED THE ENGINE AND WENT BACK THROUGH IT COMPLETELY, UPGRADING THE CAM TO A SLIGHTLY MORE AGGRESSIVE COMP CAM & KIT, EDELBROCK PERFORMER MANIFOLD /750 CARB AND MSD IGNITION. THIS TRUCK WAS AN ORIGINAL BIG BLOCK AND WELL FACTORY-OPTIONED RIG AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL CARED FOR SINCE NEW. THE SPEEDO REFLECTS THE ACTUAL MILEAGE(2000) SINCE THE UPGRADES WERE DONE IN SF. , SO THIS LITTLE BEAUTY IS READY FOR SOME SERIOUS CRUISING.IT RUNS & SOUNDS AWESOME AND WILL MAKE SOME LUCKY BIDDER VERY HAPPY.SALE ALSO INCLUDES FULL TONNEAU COVER AND A/C WORKS GREAT!! PICTURES DO NOT DO THE TRUCK JUSTICE, AS THE PAINT HAS DEPTH TO IT THAT DOESN'T SHOW IN PICS. PS: FOR CLARIFICATION, THE MERLIN BLOCK IS CAST IRON NOT ALUMINUM. THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION, SO BID TO WIN!!! THANKS

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]
Tue, 05 Feb 2013Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.
Conquest and controversy conclude the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona [spoilers]
Sun, 26 Jan 2014If you don't wish to know who won the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona, you should avert your eyes right now. We'll even give you a double-space to skedaddle...
For those of you still with us, the first race in the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) is done, but the discussions about it certainly won't end for a while. Daytona Prototypes claimed the first four overall places, the top spot taken by the No. 5 Action Express Coyote-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi, Sebastien Bourdain and Burt Friselle. The 16th and final caution of the race bunched the field up for an eight-minute sprint to the flag, so the first place getter finished just 1.4 seconds ahead of the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Max Angelelli. Third place went to Brian Friselle in the No. 9 Action Express Chevrolet Corvette DP, 20 seconds down. Chevrolet power hasn't taken the overall win since 2003, eleven years later it scores a one-two-three-four. The No. 6 Muscle Milk/Pickett Racing ORECA-Nissan 03 scored fifth place, the top LMP2 finisher.
The Prototype Challenge class win went to the No. 54 CORE Autosport team of Colin Braun, Jon Bennett, Mark Wilkins and James Gue.
Jaguar I-Pace vs. Tesla Model 3 and other EVs: How they compare on paper
Thu, Mar 1 2018The 200-mile club of electric vehicles is really growing. The most recent member is the Jaguar I-Pace, the company's first pure EV. It promises luxury, performance, style, and most important, good range. Nearly as recent is the Hyundai Kona EV, and while it doesn't promise luxury or performance like the Jaguar (it's also smaller), it does pack impressive range. With the introduction of both of these electric cars, we thought we would see how they compare against each other, and the other two big names in high-capacity electric cars: the Chevy Bolt EV and the Tesla Model 3. This isn't intended to be a direct, apples-to-apples comparison, as the four are quite different. If anything, they break into two groups: bigger and more luxurious, and smaller and less expensive. Then again, the number of vehicles with this electric range is small and comparisons to EV's with less range wouldn't be too kind to the other guys. If you want to learn more about these EVs, and compare them with other cars, be sure to check out our Car Finder and comparison tools. Horsepower and torque There is one clear winner here, and that's the Jaguar I-Pace. It packs a whopping 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque. That comes through a pair of electric motors (one at the front, another at the rear) that provide the Jag with all-wheel drive, the only one of these vehicles to offer it (at the moment). Altogether, it allows the I-Pace to have the best 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. At the other end of the spectrum is the Hyundai Kona EV. It's front-drive, like the Bolt EV, and has effectively the same amount of horsepower as the Chevy at 201 horsepower, but its 0-60-mph time is almost a second slower. And the low-range version of the Kona, excluded because it doesn't go more than 200 miles between charges, is slower still. The Tesla Model 3 is the only vehicle with rear-wheel drive, and with a 0-60 mph of 5.1 seconds for the Long Range model, it is still very quick. Range and energy use Frequently, the all-consuming question with electric cars is, "How far can I go on a charge?" And to go the farthest, you need the long-range Tesla Model 3. It can go 310 miles. It has the added advantage of being able to use the network of Tesla Supercharger stations, though they are pay-per-use with the Model 3. Even the lower capacity Model 3, with just 220 miles of range, can use these stations.
