This is a very original, rare, and solid 1961 Chevy Custom C-10 Fleetside pickup. It only has 83,030 actual miles on it. Very solid truck with no signs of rust repair that I can see. Came out of lower Arkansas where snow and salt are not an issue. All original body panels, floor pans, rockers, body mounts, fenders, etc. The underside of this truck has not been painted or undercoated to hide any rust or repairs. Even has the original spiral shock adsorbs and spare tire wheel. One repaint years ago in the factory 2 tone turquoise and white that it came with from the factory. Still in very nice shape with just some minor road chip touch-ups from it being driven over gravel roads. Still shines up nicely. Bed has newer hard wood and stainless steel strips. Interior appears to be all original except for a replacement seat cover, door sill plates, and maybe the rubber mat. It shows very well. Glass is all very good except for one small rock chip that is not noticeable unless you lift up the left wiper blade. Suspension is all stock and very tight. Brakes are all stock and very good. No power brakes or steering. Radial tires and exhaust are new. Chrome and stainless trim is very nice. Nice quality aftermarket CD - AM/FM radio in glove box with remote. Comes with both original, and very thick, Chevy truck dealer body and mechanical service manuals.  Truck was originally a 283 V-8 with a 3 speed on the column. It is now running a rebuilt 350 with a rebuilt 350 turbo transmission. Both run out great. The only issue with it is that the guy re-used the original stick steering column and hooked up the shifter rod to the 2nd and 3rd stick lever. It works OK once you get used to it, but you have to feel your way into gear. I did pickup an automatic column for it and it is included in the sale. I do have an original bell housing with proper hydraulic slave cylinder and a later model fully synchronized 3 speed tranny for a little more if you want to put it back as a stick shift.

All in all, this is one of the nicest rust free trucks of this style that I have come across for many years, and it has one of the most desirable color combos to boot.

For those of you that may not know how this type of auction works: There is no advantage to wait until the end of the auction to place a bid or make an offer. If you are a serious buyer, then the sooner you make a decision, the better your chances will be in purchasing this fine truck.

Now for the business end. I encourage you, or someone you trust or hire, to come by and check out the vehicle in person. I will refund your deposit if the vehicle does not match the above description. The vehicle does not leave here until all funds clear my bank. Bank and cashiers checks can take up to 10 business days. My bank will give me a letter stating the date when the check will clear. I will forward a copy of the letter to you. Bank transfers can take up to 2 days depending on what time of the day it is initiated on your end. Again, my bank will let me know when it clears. Cash is great if picking it up in person. Call me at 314-732-592five to get honest answers to all of your questions BEFORE YOU BID. No trades or low ball offers, please do not ask. Thanks, Dave

Watch how Corvette Racing's new collision-avoidance radar system works

Fri, 22 Mar 2013

When it comes to technology used in racecars, we generally expect it to trickle down to production cars, not the other way around. Well, Pratt & Miller has developed a new rear-facing radar that operates in a similar fashion to what we're used to in modern blind spot detection systems, only it is also capable of tracking cars as they approach and relaying vital information to the driver via a large display screen.
The innovative radar system debuted at last weekend's 12 Hours of Sebring for Corvette Racing, and this system makes perfect sense for endurance races like this since the cars sometimes have to drive through the night and in poor weather conditions.
The radar can detect cars even with poor visibility, and uses easy-to-distinguish symbols for the driver to identify.

Helicopter crashes on Top Gear Korea set while chasing Corvette ZR1

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

The formula of Top Gear Korea is seemingly about the same as it is everywhere else in the world, including the flagship British original: involve interesting cars in fantastical situations with charismatic hosts. That prescription has proved to be pretty reliable over the years, and has lead to some truly memorable and exciting pieces of television.
Something like that was undoubtedly what the Korean producers were after when they lined up this segment - a drag race between a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and an AH1 Cobra military helicopter. The planners almost certainly did not expect the filming of the segment to go quite as wrong as it actually did, with the helicopter actually crashing into the dirt after the "drag race" had been completed. Thankfully, we're told that no one was seriously injured in the crash, but the footage, in the video below, is pretty damn chilling to watch, nevertheless.

Race Recap: 2013 Indianapolis 500 better than Bollywood; all the emotion, none of the music [spoilers]

Mon, 27 May 2013

If the 2013 Indy 500 were a movie it would be the one expected to win all the little statues come awards season, and if it were an athlete it would have made spectators watch in awe as it broke record after record. And this kind of talk comes after last year's race was considered one of the best ever - the last lap hijinks in 2012 and Takuma Sato's crash leading to a podium ceremony straight out of a Golden Globes tearjerker.
But this year's race delivered more than anyone expected, from the 250,000 fans to the commentators to the IndyCar series itself and, finally, to the guy who hopped through a two-mile window on Lap 197 to take the lead and keep it until the end.
