This is our '70 C-10 short bed shop truck.  It is a driver, hauler, work truck.  When it needed a break-job a couple of years ago somebody said lets put a disc brake conversion on the front and lower it a couple of inches all around -OK!  Then we thought this black truck would look good with blacked-out tail light and side marker lenses, so we did that, and it does.

Paint is Kustom Shop Hot Rod Flatz Urethane, it is not shiny , not dead flat, but has just a little light reflection.  Bed liner is Herculiner.  The rocker panels have been replaced.  The grille is a "72 because the "70 lost a fight with a deer.

It rolls on 22 inch Panther wheels with a matching spare.

The engine is a bored 30 over SB 350, it breathes thru a Holley 770 cfm Street Avenger carb., Performer RPM intake, Comp Cams "High Energy Magnum" cam shaft, die cast aluminum "High Energy" roller rockers, DynaTech headers, Flow Master 40 mufflers, 3 1/2 exhaust, with chrome tips.  All that gives it that great choppy idle, and head-turning exhaust note, "rumble".

Dual 8-inch thermostat controlled cooling fans.  The tranny is that good ol' Chevy 3-speed with a Hurst Indy shifter --'cause I got tired of fooling with that cranky "3 on the tree"-- linkage.  The interior is in good shape, the dash pad is new, door rubbers were replaced a couple of years ago, window channels, seals, and wipes were recently replaced.  The dash gauges work, but one day somebody said, "hey, here's a Sunpro-guage cluster , let's put it in the truck" so we did.  No radio, AC or power steering.

Excellent running, driving, street legal truck - drive it anywhere with confidence.

Camaro spy shots show subtly different grille, front fascia

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

It looks like there some changes in store for the Chevrolet Camaro - the only thing is that we just don't know what Chevy has up its sleeve. Looking at these spy shots, we'd initially be inclined to think that there is just a minor facelift or a new special edition, but upon closer inspection, there are a few oddities about this car that definitely have us intrigued.
The most obvious difference on this prototype is the slightly restyled front fascia with a smaller lower air inlet and the two-bar grille. Then we get to some of the car's mysterious details. For starters, this fascia has the SS vent above the grille, but it looks to be blocked off. Granted this could just be a one-off piece used for testing. What really piqued our interest was at the rear of the car where it has quad exhaust outlets that are used on the ZL1. Could this be the LS7-powered Camaro that we reported on back in December?
At this point, your guess is as good as ours as to what we're looking at here, so let us know in the comments what you think this could be.

Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?
