55 Chevy Nomad Survivor (one Of The Best If Not The Best) on 2040-cars
Spokane, Washington, United States
|
One of the best if not the best (Survivor) available. Completely orginal. runs and drives great. Excelent interior. The Nomad moldings are some of the best with little or no pitting or cracks. One spot of rust in front of left rear wheel as in pic. Very minute surface rust in various places. A small crease in rear fender. This car was stored in norhtern Idaho for the last 30-40 yrs in a very controled area. I could go on and on about all the correct items on this car such as the door weatherstrip still sporting the correct canvas cover. The spiral shocks. the orginal fuel pump. the exhaust header pipe still having the shields on it. the tail gate fits excellent. The glass is all excellent. The headliner and all the linoleum is excelent. the chrome is all excellent. I drained the gas tank and used por 15 then rebuilt the original carb and fuel pump changed the oil and the car runs and sounds great. It does have the power steering option and that is it I have been a Nomad lover for several years and have owned my 56 since 1963 and when I found this car I could not pass it up. But am getting older and this car should go someone that likes orginality. Please feel free to call Doug 509-979-3344 for an honest description of the car and any thing to do with it. I have not done any unnecessary work on this car. Hoping to preserve the original pateena for the new owner and they can decide for themselves if they want to change or modify any parts of the car. Again a 55 Nomad to use as a Benchmark for restoration of the famous body style. Also the front seat must have had a crack or ? there has been a small white insert in the center. I realize that would have to be changed to be 100% correct. the waffle is correct but almost 60yrs old

Experimental mid-engine XP-819 Corvette going up for auction
Sun, 17 Feb 2013It seems to be commonplace that when a new Corvette is in development, rumors swirl about a possible mid-engine layout. As is the case of Chevy's most recent C7 Corvette, these rumors never pan out.
In any case, the idea for a 'Vette with an engine mounted behind the driver can probably all be traced back to a single car, the 1964 XP-819 prototype. Built as an "engineering exercise" back in 1964, the prototype was designed with a rear-mounted engine. History tells us that the idea of a rear-engine Corvette fizzled, and the XP-819 was eventually cut up into pieces and stored at a shop in Daytona Beach, FL.
After sitting for untold years, a restoration project started on the car, and while it isn't yet fully completed, the current owner of the car, Mid America Motorworks, will have the car on display at the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance as a "driveable chassis" with hopes of having a fully completed car ready to bring to next year's show.
GM will recall 3.5 million pickups and SUVs to fix brake issue
Wed, Sep 11 2019WASHINGTON — General Motors Co is recalling 3.46 million U.S. pickup trucks and SUVs to address a vacuum pump issue that could make braking more difficult and increase the risk of a crash. The recall, which covers 2014-2018 model year vehicles, including some Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon vehicles, was triggered because the amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time, GM told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in documents posted Wednesday. NHTSA opened a preliminary investigation into the issue in November 2018, and said it had reports of 9 crashes and two injuries related to the issue. It provided GM in July with additional field reports that prompted the automaker to open an investigation. The company did not immediately say on Wednesday how many injuries or crashes are linked to the issue but said it could impact braking in "rare circumstances." GM said dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module with a new calibration that will improve how the system utilizes the hydraulic brake boost assist function when vacuum assist is depleted. GM said the vacuum assist pump, which is lubricated with engine oil that flows into the pump through a filter screen, can in some cases lose effectiveness over time, as debris such as oil sludge can accumulate on the filter screen. GM told NHTSA that prior model years used a different brake assist system design, and vehicles manufactured after 2018 were not equipped with the affected pump design. Recalls Chevrolet GM GMC
Corvette Stingray Shooting Brake under consideration by Callaway [w/poll]
Mon, 18 Mar 2013Callaway has released a few renderings of a design study for a shooting brake version of the C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The company says it wants to create a long-roof version of America's sports car to offer buyers more interior room and a vehicle with "unique style." The company says it will use structural carbon fiber for the new body bits, which suggests the conversion shouldn't add too much more weight to the Corvette. Along with a few mechanical tweaks, the Callaway Corvette Stingray AeroWagon could breeze past the 200 miles per hour barrier.
Provided that they get enough interest, Callaway estimates they will be able to effect the changes on the Chevrolet for around $15,000, and says the conversion work should be available through its network of dealers. You can check out the brief press release below for more information, or head over to the Callaway site to plunk down a deposit - but before you do, we want to know... do you find this C7 wagon interesting?
