1958 Chevrolet Bel Air on 2040-cars
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
For sale, a privately owned 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 door Sedan, the current owner has done all the restoration work. The car is painted Matador Red (a 2010 Lexus color with pearl and metal flake accents), all trim inside and out were removed for the paint job. The dash, 15" steering wheel and rearview mirror are all painted. A new Flaming River I Did It tilt steering column was installed and also painted. The body is straight as an arrow. There is no bondo on this car, any body work was done with metal welding. The antenna is frenched. All of the original chrome is in very good condition. The front and back bumpers are one piece chrome, and the front bumper was replaced. Most of the trim parts have been removed from the car to create a clean, sleek look. All remaining stainless steel trim parts were removed and polished. Chrome mirrors installed from 50's era chevrolet parts. The car features a Custom Auto Sound vintage-look radio and is satellite-radio ready. A new windshield was installed, with new gasket rubber surround. All other glass on the car is original and all window felt and rubber gasket material was replaced. The interior was completely reupholstered in light tan/dark tan faux leather. Front seats are buckets originally from a 1964 Pontiac with chrome trim on the outsides, upholstered trim strip on the inside of seats. Rear bench seat is original style to this car. Carpet is hook and loop brown. Trunk compartment is finished with same carpet as interior, spare tire included, and all gasket rubber surrounds replaced. This Bel Air features p205 70r15 95s front tires with 15 x 6 baby moon chrome rims, and a little wider profile p225 70r15 100s back tires with 15 x 8 baby moon chrome rims. The undercarriage is rust free. Body mounts, rocker panels, coil springs, upper and lower control arm bushings and rear bushings were all replaced. A new fuel tank and sending unit were installed.
Under the hood is an original 348 engine with Rochester 3deuce carburetors with progressive linkage. There are approximately 3,000 miles on this rebuilt Engine with new pistons, cams, lifters, bearings. New plug wires, belts, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, chrome brake pwer booster were installed. New wipers and wiper motor were installed. Engine compartment is painted black satin finish. New wiring harness was installed with all wires wrapped and tied. All new belts, hoses, as well as a new battery were installed. The car has a four speed Saginaw transmission with a new Hurst floor shifter. The car has a new Magna Flo exhaust with chome tips on the dual pipes under back bumper. The car runs strong and sounds great with no noise, overheating, or leaking. The car also comes with a new California car cover. In order to be completely honest about the condition, I am listing the following minor flaws on this car: Driver's side window is cracked, the antenna is connected but needs minor repair to obtain clear radio reception on some am band stations, there is some discoloration on the right front parking light bezel, I have horns but they are not installed. This 1958 Chevrolet is super clean and mechanically sound and will turn heads anywhere it goes. Has always been garaged. If you would like to make an offer to the owner, please call me at 702-379-8564 to discuss. I reserve the right to end this ad early for local sale. Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner
Sat, 24 Aug 2013For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
2014 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra full configurators truck in
Sat, 15 Jun 2013You can now put prices to your wildest option-sheet dreams of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. A microsite for the full-size pickup truck twins has been up since January, and now the full-blown configurator is live and ready to take your virtual orders. The only two chassis configurations available at the moment are the Crew Cab with either a short or standard bed - Regular and Double Cab versions will come later. In Silverado flavors that will run you $32,710 for the short box, $33,010 for the standard box, while the Sierra adds a $1,500 premium to both of those prices, and destination and handling for both models adds another $995.
Since these are American pickups the list of modifications is lengthy, but we added $11,450 in just two steps by starting with the Silverado Crew Cab and standard bed, then checking four-wheel drive and the LTZ Z71 package. Our final truck, resplendent in Brownstone Metallic paint, heated and cooled Cocoa/Dune perforated leather seating and tasty details like chrome recovery hooks, and engine block heater and LED cargo box lighting, rang up $57,285 at the candy store.
They'll be on dealer lots sometime this summer, so now's a good time to start practicing your box-checking.
Dodge vs. Chevy tug-of-war taken to the extreme
Mon, 17 Dec 2012They say "idle hands are the devil's playground," but said playgrounds grow to Disney-sized proportions when a pair of jacked-up trucks, two egos, a chain and an empty mall parking lot are involved. Proof of this is the video below, which shows a Cummins-powered Dodge Ram circa 2006 to 2008 chained tail-to-tail with what looks to be a gasoline-powered Chevrolet Silverado from the late 1990s or early 2000s.
We don't necessarily have to tell you who wins this battle, but we'll let you see for yourself the lengths the "winning" driver goes to prove his point. There's plenty of foul language in the video below, so beware that this might be Not Safe For Work, and not that we should have to tell you, but please, do not try this at home.
