2006 Cadillac Xlr V Convertible 2-door 4.4l on 2040-cars
Paramus, New Jersey, United States
Cadillac's V-series is to that nameplate what AMG is to Mercedes or M is to BMW. It's the high-performance wing of the company, where the original product (and its price) gets kicked up some serious notches. It is also a pretty brave enterprise at Cadillac Details on the engine The 4.4-liter supercharged version of GM's Northstar V-8 is an
exceedingly sophisticated engine. Pressurized by a GM-designed and patented
Roots-type blower made by Eaton, the engine supplies prodigious torque throughout
most of its operating range. Continuously variable valve timing at all four
cams undoubtedly helps spread the available torque around so the car almost
always responds to a jab at the pedal with a surge of acceleration.
That blower is housed in a casting that is integrated
with the Laminova tube-type intercooler and the intake tract in one rigid unit,
and it works extremely well at reducing unwanted supercharger whine. The engine block is a unique casting that provides
improved coolant flow and has a new oil gallery to supply under-piston cooling
jets. Lower-compression cast-alloy pistons necessitated a rebalancing of the
crankshaft, and the accessory drive required a redesign and a new, wider
three-sheave pulley to power the blower. That's no small issue, since the
supercharger soaks up nearly 80 horsepower at maximum speed. Still, the engine manages to keep some of that extra power to
itself, punching out 443 horsepower at 6400 rpm, enough to propel this
3840-pound convertible to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and through the quarter-mile in
13 seconds flat. More important to everyday users is the 414 pound-feet of
torque, of which 90 percent is available between 2200 and 6000 rpm. |

Cadillac teases camo'd ELR ahead of Detroit debut
Tue, 08 Jan 2013With the 2014 Cadillac ELR being introduced next week at the Detroit Auto Show, General Motors has revealed another picture of its luxury range extended electric vehicle. Last month, we saw a dark, teaser photo showing some of the body detail for the electric coupe, but this recent photo shows the Cadillac in full camouflage testing in California back in September.
If this car looks familiar, it's because our spy shooters got a jump on GM by catching the car in action and providing pictures from all angles. There are still no official details for the ELR yet aside from the fact that it will share the Voltec system with the Chevrolet Volt, but we'll finally see the car unveiled in Detroit a week from today.
Cadillac highlights craftsmanship in latest Escalade teaser videos
Wed, 25 Sep 2013Cadillac, in case you haven't heard, is unveiling the new Escalade on October 7, completing the redesign of General Motors' large SUV range. The event is proceeding with the regular degree of "teasers" and "leaked images" that is typical of the automotive world, nowadays.
As the new Escalade's reveal date grows closer, Cadillac is trumping up interest for the new SUV, debuting five short teaser videos on its YouTube channel. While not showing much about the Escalade itself, the spots reveal plenty about its materials. Real wood and hand-stitched leather are highlighted, while we get another glimpse of the Escalade's vertically oriented headlights. Take a look below for all five spots.
Cadillac clears camo off the XT3 revealing grille, lighting details
Wed, Dec 6 2017Up until now, every Cadillac XT3 we've seen has been buried under covers and vinyl wraps, but one of our spy photographers recently captured a group of them with significantly less camouflage. As a result, we finally get a relatively clear picture of what the car will look like. The nose blends the look of current Cadillacs with cues from last year's Escala concept. The headlights still appear to stretch up into the top of the fenders like its production brethren, but they don't descend as far down the front fascia, a hint of Escala influence. The grille also features more of egg-crate mesh like that Cadillac concept. In profile, we can see evidence of the XT3's smaller size compared with the XT5, mainly in the lack of any glass area behind the rear door. Other evidence of the smaller size is that our spy photographer reports the cars were being tested alongside the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. The profile also shows that the XT3 will have a hard-edged rear end with a rakish hatch. At the back, there isn't a whole lot to report, but the taillights look like they'll be interesting. There appears to be a horizontal element in the middle of the hatch similar to what we've seen on the Escala and the refreshed XTS. We can also see some lights up on the C-pillar, which indicates that the XT3 will also have tall vertical elements up those pillars like on the Escalade. We expect the XT3 to show up late in 2018. It will likely be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder of some sort, and because it will probably be based on an existing GM crossover or sedan platform, it will probably have front-wheel drive and/or a front-drive based all-wheel-drive system.
