Let me tell you the story of "BERTIE". Her son was originaly given this car in 1977 as his compny car when he was a casino manager in Las Vegas. 3 years later he gave it to his mother BERTIE for her 70th birthday. BERTIE loved and drove this car for around 25 years until she quit driving in her mid 90's. The car was always very well cared for as BERTIE children wanted to make sure she had a safe and reliable car. She refued to trad it for a newer car because she loved this big old Buick so much. When she quit driveing the car went into the family trust and was used very little for the next few years, but still very well maintained. Then in 2010 BERTIE"S children decided to restore it so BERTIE could take it for a short drive on her 100th birthday, 30 years after she was originally given the car from her son. The restoration included a complete color change as the car was originally green on green, and BERTIE had always wished it was yellow. So it got a new beige vinyl top. Then it went to the body shop for a complete color change to the beautiful yellow it is today. They did a very good job, but did not fix the door hinge on the drivers door as they were supposed to. There are a couple of places near the bottom of the car where there are minor paint runs, would be simple to color sand out, buff and wax. Also several of the clips for the side trim were broken and need to be replaced. Again, an easy fix. All chrome removed is in the trunk, nothings been thrown away. Then on to the upholstery shop. Unfortunately even tho they did great work on the big things, like the seats, carpet, headliner and dash, it became obvious that weren't experts when it came to putting everything back together. Although it looks great overall, there are minor items that still need to be finished or corrected. The center steering wheel piece never got put on. The door panels are put on incorrectly and could be better. They replaced the dash with a beige one from a Park Avenue, which is identical except that there is no place for the large clock that should be on the passenger side. When the dash was reinstalled they did not hook up the speakers for the radio or the duct work for the A/C. The A/C does work, it just doesn't come out where it should. The good news that all of the parts that were removed are in the trunk, including many extra parts that they obtained in doing the interior color change.
The Story does have a happy ending, BERTIE did get it back for her 100th birthday
and did take it for a short drive that thrilled her to no end.

I also have a stack of receipts for this car going back to the seventies. The original owners manual, repair manuals, and pix of it before the restoration was begun. Car was never hit and never had any rust. Originally bought right here in Vegas, was in Texas for a short time, then back here to Vegas. The seat belts were never reinstalled after the carpet was put in, but they are in the trunk. I have 2 sets of keys, I think they are original. The odometer quit on me last week when I was bringing it to my house in Mesquite from Las Vegas, but the speedo still works fine.
This car would make a great low rider.

GM investing $167m in Spring Hill for new midsize vehicles
Tue, 06 Aug 2013General Motors has announced a large investment in its Spring Hill, Tennessee facility. The former home of Saturn production will be getting a $167 million addition to a previously announced $183 million, to cover a pair of new midsize vehicles. The investment is expected to create 1,800 jobs at the factory.
That $350 million is being divvied up for a pair of programs at Spring Hill. The first will take the bulk of the money ($223 million) and create 1,000 of the 1,800 jobs, while the other will take the remaining $127 million and generate the leftover 800 positions. But GM says the investment will cover "midsize vehicle programs." So what could they be?
The leading candidate in our minds is a new crossover for Buick, called the Anthem, that will slot between the Encore and Enclave, but will be slightly smaller than the Equinox and Terrain. As we've explained, the new model will likely be the first product to sport GM's new D2UX platform, which will eventually replace both the Delta and Theta platforms. Spring Hill is already building the Equinox, so there could be some credence to this theory.
Buick Encore takes a hit of Mokka to tackle Dakar
Wed, 03 Sep 2014There are many vehicles we'd consider taking racing. Even on a cross-country rally as punishing as the Dakar. But a Buick Encore? That's not one that would enter our motorsports-based consciousness. Yet it's basically what General Motors is entering in the South American rally raid this year, and you're looking at it.
Unveiled at the Moscow Motor Show, this rally machine is based on (or at least billed as) an Opel Mokka - the name that GM's European brand applies to the vehicle Americans know as the Encore, Buick's subcompact crossover. Only it's obviously been extensively modified. It's got a ten-inch raised suspension, a 137-gallon fuel tank, carbon-fiber bodywork and... hold on, we're sure we're missing something here. Oh, right: a 6.2-liter V8 kicking out 340 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox.
In other words, this is not the same Encore (or Mokka) you can pick up at your local Buick, Opel or Vauxhall dealership. It's not even close. It's not even recognizable as such, really. It was unveiled alongside a more sedate Opel Mokka Moscow Edition and a slew of other local debuts for the Opel brand that you can read more about in the (translated and original) Russian press release below.
Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
