 1972 Buick Electra 225 Hardtop

  • Great "driver" condition (head-turner)
  • Color is "harvest gold" (gold with a touch of olive green)
  • Body style is 4 door hardtop
  • Engine is 455 cubic inches (7.5 liter)
  • Automatic transmission
  • Power bench seat
  • Power windows

This "deuce & a quarter" is in great daily driver condition.  She turns heads whenever I take her out. The following is an honest assessment of the car.

Tires: Nearly new (less than 500 miles) whitewalls all around, (including spare), in correct size. I have receipts. Also has original, fully functioning jack and tire iron.

Paint: Original paint, never repainted, in good condition but not flawless. Very small chips/scratches here and there.

Body: Never wrecked.  Tiny dings, and two little dents in front passenger door, barely noticeable unless the light hits them just right. No rust! This car has lived her life in Phoenix and Tucson, dry desert heat.

Carpet: Perfect! Chocolate brown, medium-pile original carpet was always used with mats. I removed the driver's mat in one pic to show the flawless condition. The "burlwood" accented heavy duty mats are included and match the accents on the dash.

Headliner: Original and perfect!

Dashboard: In good shape but has one crack in the middle. Included is the Dashmat brand cover in chocolate brown to match carpeting. Back dash is flawless.

Air conditioning: Blows cold, all functions (defrost, etc) work as they should.  Yes, it has been converted to the modern R134 refrigerant.

Heater: Nice and warm. All functions (defrost, etc), work as they should.

Radio:  Original factory radio works as it should.

Remote driver's door mirror: functions as it should.

Power Windows: All four windows function as they should, no weak or slow motors. All the switches on all the doors work as they should. The rubber weather-stripping around the windows is getting dry. There are made-to-fit new stripping kits specific to this car available on eBay for about $45 per side .

Locks: Original manual factory door locks all function and lock from inside or outside as they should. I have an aftermarket kit to install a remote power lock system, it's uninstalled and included with the car.

All interior lighting works including the rear side lights (new covers), floor courtesy lighting, and even the light that comes on when you open the glove box.

Power bench seat: All the angles, up, back, tilt, etc, work as they should and motor is quick and strong.

Seats: Springs, and cushioning are in great shape and very comfortable but the Arizona sun has dried out the upholstery. Photos show the aftermarket heavy duty cloth seat covers which are installed and are about 2 years old and in good condition. All seat belts are like new and work as they should. Yes, it does have shoulder straps in the front which stow away on the headliner (we never use them, just the lap belts).

Steering wheel is original and in great condition. Included is a matching padded steering wheel cover with burl-wood accents.

Instrument panel: Everything works, lights, gauges, idiot lights, dimmer, etc. Cruise control works just as it should.  Original factory compass works as it should. Wipers function correctly on all speeds. All exterior lighting works as it should including four-way hazard lights, turn signals, floor switch for high/low beams, etc. When you fill the tank to full, the fuel gauge sometimes sticks at 1/4 tank but as you use fuel and actually get below 1/4 it will read correctly. (In other words, if it shows below 1/4, you have less than a 1/4. It never shows more than you actually have. Probably needs a new sending unit to work 100% correctly).

Transmission: Rebuilt last year (less than 1000 miles on it), shifts like new. Yes, I have records.

Motor: 455 (7.5L) with the 4-barrel carburetor. Professionally installed new head gasket, valley gasket, heads redone, valve job, etc was just done as it neared 70K miles. Yes, I have records and receipts. It had a small coolant leak at rear of heads and I had the shop do all of the above. Radiator flushed and tune up, new spark plugs, etc done at shop also.

Motor starts easily, idles smoothly, sounds great, accelerates amazingly fast for a car this heavy, serious power for an unmolested original equipment car of this size and weight. Easily driven too quickly as it rides like a Cadillac and accelerates quickly and smoothly and you look down and, surprise you're seriously speeding! The previous owner had it dealer serviced always and I use a reputable shop. It's never been a "shade-tree mechanic" victim. I did throw a new battery and alternator in it myself last year.

This car is all set and ready to go. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. Fly in, drive home.  This car actually will get in the low 20's mpg on the highway if you set the cruise control and don't floor it too often.

I love this vehicle but I'm moving to California and I can't drive three cars there. So, she has to go.

2013 Buick Encore nets strong IIHS, NHTSA safety scores

Wed, 05 Jun 2013

After being crushed from every which way and rolled over like a labrador, the 2013 Buick Encore has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To earn the accolade, a vehicle must achieve the highest rating of "Good" in each of the institute's four main crash tests: Front Moderate Overlap, Side, Rollover and Rear. The Encore aced those four tests with "Good" ratings, but missed out on the coveted Top Safety Pick+ designation by receiving a Poor rating in the institute's new Front Small Overlap test. To be named a Top Safety Pick+, the Encore would need to score at least an "Acceptable" rating in the new test, as well as "Good" in all four original crash tests.
Despite the miss, the Encore joins the Enclave, LaCrosse, Verano and Regal as Top Safety Picks all. If you count only the Encore with all-wheel drive, then all five Buicks have also earned five-star overall ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration, making Buick one of the few manufacturers to offer a full lineup with high scores from both safety rating organizations.
The front-wheel-drive Encore, despite performing equally as well as the all-wheel-drive version in NHTSA's crash tests, only earned four stars overall. As far as we can tell, the discrepancy between the two is because some safety equipment, like Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Assist, are optional features on the FWD Encore and standard on the AWD model.

2019 Buick LaCrosse Sport Touring isn't that sporty

Mon, Jul 2 2018

The 2019 Buick LaCrosse Sport Touring is presumably a new, sportier version of Buick's large sedan. And on the surface, it does look more exciting. It has less chrome trim than its counterparts, the grille gets a body color surround and a black wire mesh insert. It has a simple little spoiler at the back, 19-inch wheels, and the all-important badging. We can't imagine Ford is thrilled at the use of the "ST" nomenclature on display at the back, though. Unfortunately, Buick hasn't really done anything to actually make this car sportier than other LaCrosse sedans. It has the same 3.6-liter V6 found in other versions making the same 310 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque. That power goes through the same nine-speed automatic as the others, too. Additionally, the Sport Touring is only available with front-wheel drive. Still, if you like the style, and the LaCrosse's standard performance is suitable to you, you'll want to know how much it costs. Base price is $41,220. You'll also have a choice of five colors: white, black, red, and two kinds of silver. And if the LaCrosse ST isn't sporty enough for you, you might want to check out the Regal GS. It has the same engine, but with a bit more torque, all-wheel drive, is in a smaller body, and has hatchback versatility. 2025 Buick Enclave revealed with new looks, technology

Tue, Apr 9 2024

The 2025 Buick Enclave has been revealed, and as expected it combines Buick's current corporate styling with the new-generation three-row SUV platform shared with the Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia. It also gets plenty of standard features and technology, along with the first Buick implementation of Super Cruise. The design of the Enclave is much more boxy and upright than the extra-curvy model that precedes it. Even the wheel arches have been squared-up. It's coupled with the shark-nose front fascia taken from the Wildcat concept that has adorned every other vehicle in Buick's lineup. The whole thing is slightly larger than before, too, though Buick didn't specify by how much. And as is the case with most Buicks, there's a base Preferred model, as well as Sport Touring (ST) and Avenir trims that receive appearance tweaks in addition to different feature sets. The ST adopts black trim, including in the grille, whereas the Avenir uses bright metal trim and body color wheel arches, plus larger 22-inch wheels (Preferred and ST have 20-inch wheels). The interior is the biggest upgrade by far, though. Immediately obvious is the standard 30-inch combination instrument and infotainment display. It has a curvy, inverted trapezoid shape that has a slight retro-futurism vibe. It sits atop a low, wide and gently curved dashboard, one with a small set of physical short-cut buttons above the center air vents. A "floating" center console rises to meet the dash, though stops short of connecting to it. Adjustable ambient lighting is standard in here, along with power, heated seats, wireless device charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 12-speaker Bose sound system. Avenir upgrades the sound system to 16 speakers, adds a panoramic sunroof, front seat ventilation and massage function, rear seat heating and a head-up display. Mechanically, the Enclave is basically the same as the Traverse and Acadia. It uses the new platform and also gets the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder as the sole engine option. In the Enclave, it makes 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque, the same as the GMC, and a tad more than the Chevy. An eight-speed automatic is the only transmission offering, though both front- and all-wheel drive are available. Towing capacity is again mirrored at 5,000 pounds, and Super Cruise is available, making Enclave the first Buick with the hands-free driving assist system.
