First M5 Touring in California
I am the proud owner of first M5 touring ever produced. I imported it
from Germany and had it federalized by Barry Taylor Enterprises in
Richmond, Ca. Here's a link to the world wide M5 Touring Registry :http://www.bmwmregistry.com/models.php?id=25,
my car is at the top. BMW made 891 Tourings and never brought them to
the USA. I have owned my car for 5 years and it's time for a change. If
you are looking at this ad you know how rare and special these tourings
are. Here's a link to great information on the E34 M5 http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=12. All tourings used the 3.8 liter engine that US cars never got. Here are pictures from Germany before I bought the touring: http://euromcars.com/gschultz/04-09-07/ History: In the beginning of 2007 I stated to browse the German car site Mobile.de for an M5 touring. I saw my car and had my friend who runs euromcars.com go and check it out. It turns out the car is the first M5 touring to be built. I purchased the car and had it federalized by now retired Barry Taylor Enterprises in Richmond, Ca. He had been in the car importation business for over 45 years. It took until the middle of 2007 for me to get my car. I also bought the car from the original owner. Condition: Exterior- I had a complete paint job in '08. I have just had the hood, roof, bumper, and grille re-sprayed. It had picked up too many stone chips. The wheels were refinished 2 months ago. I just installed all new euro bumper strips. It looks pretty good. The front bumper was bead blasted down to clean plastic and painted. The body shop felt this the best way to make it like new. Double sunroof has always worked. Interior- Very clean, I've had all of the seats recovered with good leather. It gets a ton of complements. The only modification I've done was to change the radio to a later BMW CD43 unit with Ipod connection. The iPod cable is near the parking brake. The FM had died in the original. I have replaced the rear window blinds and the rear dog net. I just purchased one of the last sets of OEM black floor mats. The dash is clean with no cracks. The door cards aren’t perfect but I’ve seen much much worse. Since I've owned it I've replaced: Recent climate control module and recharge, A/C nice and chilly Valve adjustment just completed Fuel pump and CPS The brakes were replaced the first year I owned the car Radiator replaced first year Alternator PS pump 2-EDC shocks, ordered from Greg at Concord BMW (Great guy) ($1100/ea) A/C compressor, has been converted to R134. Very recent drive shaft rebuild including guibo and center support bearing. Leather work done by Jim's Upholstery in San Diego. They are very well known for their custom work. Returned headlights, cluster, rear hatch (no third brake light) to euro spec. I have just passed strict California smog inspection. It burns virtually no oil. This phrase is used a lot but I would truly drive this car cross country without fear. I bought the car with 295,000 kilometers and it now has approximately 371k or about 230,000 miles. It had a factory engine replaced in Germany at about 200k kilometers. With 220,000 miles it's not ready for a concourse but it's in very good condition. One annoying thing. There is an occasional trailer brake light out warning. The brake lights still work it's just a warning that pops up once in a while. The tires will need to be replaced soon. Tires are such a personal choice I will let the buyer decide. One other thing the buyer will have to do is answer a lot of questions. There will be a lot of "is it real" and "did you just put an M5 badge on it" or "they never made those, it has to be a fake". The last one was at a local dealership. Thanks for looking |

BMW planning to stretch i3 into i5 family hauler?
Sat, 30 Nov 2013If you're sweet on the new BMW i3 but wish it had more space to carry people and stuff, we've got good news for you. According to Autocar, BMW is planning on stretching the platform that underpins the i3 to create a new model, expected to be called i5.
The stretch job would add an extra four inches of legroom in the back and another six inches of rear overhang to the benefit of cargo space. The result would create a vehicle longer than the current Mini Countryman - although the next Countryman is likely to be even larger. As Autocar points out, the process of extending the i3's composte passenger cell likely wouldn't be as difficult or cost-intensive as lengthening a conventional metal chassis, although the rear doors would need to be re-engineered.
Whether the resulting vehicle would more closely resemble a hatchback, wagon, minivan or something in between remains to be seen, however BMW is said to have already registered the nameplates i1 through i8, signalling that the possibility is at least there to add more members to its new EV family.
NHTSA releases updated Takata airbag recalled cars list, but it still has errors
Wed, 22 Oct 2014
Unfortunately, the government's list still contains errors.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued an updated list of vehicle models that it's urging owners to repair under the mushrooming Takata airbag inflator recall. The latest version adds vehicles from new automakers like Subaru and Ford that are missing from the original announcement, and it also removes erroneous entries from General Motors, leaving only the 2005 Saab 9-2X (a reskinned Subaru WRX), and the 2003-2005 Pontiac Vibe, a joint project with Toyota.
BMW M6 amped up for track duty by Risden
Sat, 22 Dec 2012Risden Engineering is a bit of an unknown, if we're being completely honest - we have yet to report on the company to date, and its corporate website is really an information desert save for the name and a few email addresses. Even the press release that we requested from Risden's contact person is short and vague. That's all pretty much okay with us as long as the shadowy tuners, you know, make good on this sweet-looking BMW M6 racecar thing.
Dubbed the Risden 6R, we're told that the M6 modification will result in a vehicle that is more adept at track work, while still being street-legal. In terms of specifics, we read that a full aero kit will be involved, with one fixed and one retractable rear wing (hard to miss). There are obviously new wheels, and the company has also added a fully adjustable suspension, a four-point roll bar and a new braking system - all while reducing curb weight overall.
Apparently more details are to follow after the 6R's official release in the first quarter of 2013. We wait with bated breath.
