1964 Mercury Marauder Park Lane 4 door Hardtop. This car runs and drives but has not been on the road for at least 5 years. The tires are just rollers. All the glass is good. All the lights, gauges, wipers, blower motor ect all work. The horn does not. I bought this car a few years ago as a parts car for a 2 dr ht. That car has sold so I no longer need this car. The head liner has come unstitched and is hanging down. This car came with a power bench seat but I do not have it. This is a really good looking car underneath. No visible rust under the car. The lower quarters will need some work as will the dog leg. The motor has been redone recently. To what extent I do not know for sure. I know the cam has been replaced and the heads redone. The would make a nice builder or a great parts car. I do not have the trunk key. I have a good spare trunk lid. The brakes stop the car but it has been sitting along time so I would not consider it road worthy. I have driven it up and down my road a few times in the last couple of days and it drives alright except for an exhaust leak. I can help with shipping. I am 60 miles south of I10  in south west Texas. I can meet you at the interstate. Or you can pick it up here, or at a place I have by Abilene Tx. I have a trip to Ms in a few weeks and if you are on the way I can drop it off. Any questions cal 214 226 3119 or e mail. If this car does not meet reserve i will part it out.

Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception

Tue, 25 Sep 2012

It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
