1976 Triumph Tr6 With Overdrive, Factory Hardtop, And A/c on 2040-cars
Orangeburg, South Carolina, United States
It’s been a long winter and now that Spring is here what better way to enjoy the warmer temperatures than with a TR6! Please read the descriptions CAREFULLY. I pack a LOT of detail into my descriptions. If you skip around thinking it’s the usual fluff you will be missing valuable information about the car. 1976 was the last year for the TR6 and this particular car sports the rare color of Java Green. Built in December 1975, the car was sold new at Karp Motors in Savannah, Georgia and has been a Southern car its entire life. The original owner had the car until the early 1980’s and sold the car to the second owner who was very active in the Triumph Car Club scene. He drove the car halfway across the country to a couple of national meets with his young kids in the back seat! The window stickers from those events are still in the windshield. The second owner then bought an older Triumph (TR3) and sold the TR6 to his employee in the mid 1990’s. The third owner builds golf courses and travels extensively. He did not have much time to spend on the car so the car mostly sat during his ownership. I found the car in a maintenance shed on a golf course in Alabama and convinced him to sell me the car a couple of years ago; so, I am the fourth of owner of this unique car. What makes this car different from all the other cars out there? This car has EVERY option that one could get at the time. This car has:
This is one of the most heavily optioned TR6 that exists. There may be one or two TR6’s a year that come up for sale that have all these options. This is a rare car. Of course, options alone don’t make a great car. I’ll describe the car’s attributes in detail and you can look at the pictures to verify that this car is better than most of the TR6’s you may come across. Engine/Transmission – the engine is original as far as I can tell and runs excellent. The engine number is appropriate for 1976. You can buy a British Motor Heritage Certificate to verify all the numbers if you wish. Excellent oil pressure....even when warm (see picture) I just spent over $800 at Charleston Import Automotive for a complete fluid change (engine, gearbox differential), valve adjustment, etc. (receipt included). The car has new plugs and wires as well as a new fan belt. An electronic ignition was installed by the previous owner along with the gold Lucas Sport coil. The previous owner also installed the external rocker arm oiler (stainless hose feeding oil to the rocker arm). Some TR6 engines have a reputation for not providing enough oil to the rocker shaft causing excessive wear. This modification fixes that issue. Earlier this year I installed new Scott Helms thrust washers. If you read about the issue, the range for crankshaft end float per factory specs is 0.004 to 0.008”. This car was measuring somewhere around 0.010”. I replaced the thrust washers and now have 0.005” of end float. This is a perfect measurement and with the Scott Helms alloy thrust washers should not be an issue for 100K miles. I installed a new Hi-Torque starter ($200+) earlier this year because the old starter was acting up. . The new starter is, in one word, awesome! The engines hoses were replaced with the factory correct green hoses and wire clamps. I just replaced the fuel pump this weekend because the old one was “wet” and leaking The radiator shroud was replaced as well. This engine runs cool (even when idling for a long time). The transmission shifts smooth with NO grinding in any gear. The overdrive engages cleanly and crisply on third and fourth gear as designed. In summary, this car runs fantastic. Hydraulics –The COMPLETE braking system was replaced less than 100 miles ago. This includes a NEW servo, NEW master cylinder, NEW calipers (not rebuilt), NEW pads, NEW brake hoses, NEW brake cylinders, adjusters, and shoes. The only original components remaining are the original steel brake lines (which don’t wear) Also NEW is the clutch master and slave cylinder. There are NO hydraulic leaks on this car! Electrical – Although this car is British, EVERYTHING works on the car. All lights light up, all blinkers blink, the hazard lights work, the fan blows, the heat works, the gauges gauge, the horn honks, the wipers wipe, the radio plays…well, you get the idea. Body/Chassis – This car has NO RUST. Look at the pictures for proof. It’s a southern car and shows it. The exterior looks darn good but would need paint to be a show winner. It looks good now; however, the paint is a 20 year old repaint and has some chips and normal wear and tear. Don’t misunderstand, you can show it now (I’ve done it twice). However, to be spectacular it could use a high quality repaint. I believe that all panels are original and the car has never been hit or wrecked as far as I know. The chassis is rust free and the passenger side differential mount has been boxed in (research this if you want to know more) to insure no cracked mounts. The rear hubs are tight and in great shape. Interior - The front seats were recovered in leather many years ago and are in excellent condition. TR6 seats were originally covered in vinyl. Some high quality restorations use leather. Someone in the past has already paid for this very nice upgrade The dash is custom made. I think it’s teak. Anyway, it’s in excellent condition The door cards and interior panels are all in nice condition and undamaged The carpet is, I believe, original. It is faded in some areas and could be redyed. It still has the original snaps (many aftermarket carpets do not have the snaps) so it should be kept. The dashpad is cracked…it’s one thing that really needs to be replaced Tires – The tires are Michelin Redlines. They are in excellent condition; however, they are older and should be replaced at some point. The next owner should replace them and keep these tires for shows. Brand new (this weekend) center caps and stainless steel wheel rings Miscellaneous:
Summary: This is a great running car that can be driven anywhere. This car is ready for your summer fun. You will search a long time to find a car with this many options in this driving condition. Take your time and read the description again. There is a tremendous amount of detail packed into this auction description. Buyer is responsible for shipping. Payment via cash, wire transfer, or check (with 10 banking days to clear). No warranty expressed or implied. You must pay for the car within 7 days of the auction close. I’m not interested in any trades. |

Jaguar F Type V6 S vs Triumph Street Triple R in open-air track attack
Sun, 21 Sep 2014Typically, these track battle videos pair up car against car or, in more disparate circumstances, car versus crossover, as we saw the other day. While the outcome of that battle was quite predictable, what'll happen when an equally fetching (and fast) four-wheeler is put up against one of the icons of the two-wheeled world? Evo just had to find out.
Matching up a Jaguar F-Type V6 S Convertible against a Triumph Street Triple R is at least more of an even fight than the last battle between the Porsche Cayman GTS and Macan Turbo. The Triumph has a 675-cc engine to work with, and is very light. Meanwhile, the Jag has a thumping 380-horsepower, 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 to haul about it's considerably heftier heft. Who will come out on top?
You'll need to watch the full video to find out.
