A 1974 Triumph TR6 in 'British Racing Green' ... the quintessential British sports car.

A leather driving gloves, 'Burberry' scarf and a 'Harris Tweed' sports cap kind of driving experience.
4-speed with overdrive - throaty exhaust - wind in the hair.  You know ...

Through the following photos and descriptions (there are many as there is nothing to hide here), I'll attempt to show what a well cared for vehicle this 1974 Triumph TR6 is.  Please view all the photos and read the descriptions ... then decide for yourself if this the vehicle for you.

Just 56,838 actual miles to date (only 1,421 miles per year on average) - all well cared for from day one - read this 'garage kept and unmolested'..

It's not perfect in every way, but quite a find nonetheless.

An informative advert from the period.

I drove this TR6 just yesterday and everything felt tight and responsive.

It accelerates very well, runs flawlessly, shifts crisply and handles quite nimbly.
It has nice solid road feel and has proved to be very dependable over the years.

I just love the profile of these Triumphs.  Clean lines and a real sporting feel.

From any angle, it just looks great.  It just makes me want to go for a drive.

'Gender Specific' a friend calls it.  Made for men by men.

It's rare, but not unheard of, to see women driving TR6s ... Why?  I just don't know.

Vehicles 20 years or older in Maryland are permitted the use of 'Historic' license plates.
They cost a little less and the insurance premiums are quite reasonable.

A quick look at the desirable 'biscuit' colored interior.  More detail of this later in the listing.

Low miles are another big plus to this TR6 ... just 1,421 miles per year on average over 40 years

"The Classically British Triumph TR6" - its off to the local for a pint of bitters.

The upgraded dual exhaust with 4-port exit has such a nice throaty sound.

Just serviced and tuned to perfection ... it's ready when you are.

Repainted  years back, the finish is still quite acceptable.
It's not a show car but something you can drive now and tinker with on weekends.

The paint on the hood and trunk has a bit of blush to it.
Not as shinny as the rest of the car - a cut-n-polish might improve it somewhat.

I personally don't like the feel of driving a a 'marshmallow' car.

'Seat-of-the-pants' is how I'd describe this compared to modern vehicles ... only a bit more refined.

Let's have a good look at the interior ...

The wood dash is original ... and, quite good looking.

The black top of the dash has age cracks.

Note: A new dash top is included with this sale ... I've had it for years and just never installed it.

New upholstery was installed on the seats a few years back.  They look great.

The seats are nice and firm and do well holding you in the corners.

'Buy One' ... or two, if you're so inclined.

The engine is well cared for with regular service throughout the years.

All original with the exception of the after-market high flow air cleaners.

Recently tuned to perfection and ready to go.

The builder's VIN tag located just below the striker plate on the driver's door.

A pair of ID tags located on the right side of the firewall in the engine compartment.

A vintage ad showing some of the engine specs.

The tires are the correct size:  205/70R15 and are mounted on original steel rims.

The tires have 90%+ tread remaining on all four wheels.

Overdrive ... A very desirable option on TR6s.

The overdrive is active in 3rd and fourth gears and is controlled by the lever just above the turn signal stalk.

Engaging the overdrive drops the reves about 600 RPM in both 3rd and 4th gears.
Makes it an easy task driving at modern speeds.

Hey, it's British ... fly the colors.

The optional 'roll bar' is an added safety feature.  Hopefully you'll never need it.

Another vintage ad showing additional performance specifications.

The 'boot is spacious for a sports car and will carry a couple of sets of golf clubs or the like.

The sheet metal is virtually rust free.

An OEM factory spare is also included, although not shown in these photos.

This is an after-market carpet kit for the boot - still in the package and also included in this sale.

This photo shown the driver's side door above the sill plate.
Notice the small rust bubbles here ... that and a some light surface rust on the undercarriage frame is about the extent if any real rust on this '74 TR6.

Not bad for a 40 year old British car.  I wish most were like this ... sadly, not.

There are fewer and fewer around every year - due to neglect and poor maintenance.

Fewer classics and more interested buyers ... makes for an upward market.
You can think of it as an investment you can take daily pleasure from.

Wood shift knob. What British sports is complete without one? The logo is in cloisonne enamel.

The instruments are in good working order.

'Mountney' wood steering wheel in nice condition.

Logo floor mats ... also in nice condition.

Another ad from the period.

I put it up on the lift for some undercarriage photos.
A necessity in my way of thinking so you know just what your buying here.

I know it's not the same as 'kicking tires' but I do hope all these photos will help you feel more comfortable with your purchase if your not able to actually view this Triumph TR6 in person.

The front suspension was recently serviced and updated.

The rust appearing on the frame is simply surface rust and is of a cosmetic nature.
A little wire brushing and some fresh paint and it will look new once again.

Front right ... notice the disc brakes.
No small thing if you've ever driven a British sports car without them.

Left rear ...

And, right rear.

The transmission shifts crisply and has never missed a beat.

Dual exhaust, of course.

Unlike an MGB or the like, Triumphs have a real frame rather than unibody construction.

This makes for a much more solid vehicle that will stand the test of time.

Both rocker panels are in excellent condition as shown in these four photos.

Dual exhaust - with four port exit.  It delivers the nice-n-throaty sound of a true sports car.

Also included with this sale is a brand new soft top and a brand new dash board (the black section above the wood).  Two more items I purchased sometime ago and just never installed.

The Triumph car logo ... different from the Triumph motorcycle logo.

This and the following seven photos just show this TR6 in different lighting.

A Triumph factory promotional photo ... looks much the same as this offering.

And, a couple of 'glamor' photos to wrap this rather extensive eBay listing up.

I hope you've enjoyed the tour and that you found it informative.

At the end of the day someone is going to be very pleased with their purchase.

***********************************************

Full disclosure is what I'm after here .... I want you to know what your buying.

This 1974 Triumph TR6 is not perfect in every way ... it's as fine an example of the model that one could ever expect for a 40 year old unrestored vehicle.  There are minor imperfections as one would well expect ... very minor indeed.  Some very slight paint chips, blushing and a few minor scratches that can't possible be shown in photos like these.

There are a few minor bits that need attending to ... A loose switch on the sash, the dash replaced with the new one, the new convertible top installed ... just minor things.

Weather this will be a father/son thing or something for yourself ... You'll have many enjoyable hours making it Your Triumph. A true classic that should bring you many years of driving pleasure.

Jaguar F Type V6 S vs Triumph Street Triple R in open-air track attack

Sun, 21 Sep 2014

Typically, these track battle videos pair up car against car or, in more disparate circumstances, car versus crossover, as we saw the other day. While the outcome of that battle was quite predictable, what'll happen when an equally fetching (and fast) four-wheeler is put up against one of the icons of the two-wheeled world? Evo just had to find out.
Matching up a Jaguar F-Type V6 S Convertible against a Triumph Street Triple R is at least more of an even fight than the last battle between the Porsche Cayman GTS and Macan Turbo. The Triumph has a 675-cc engine to work with, and is very light. Meanwhile, the Jag has a thumping 380-horsepower, 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 to haul about it's considerably heftier heft. Who will come out on top?
You'll need to watch the full video to find out.
