Letting my beloved Bean fly the roost. I bought this 5 years ago to cart around my kids in the winter time. When I purchased it, it had a blown head gasket. I pulled the motor and shaved the the deck and head .0006 each. While I had it on the rack I went through the whole vehicle, replacing what looked worn or questionable. I have since put on 56,000 trouble free miles, until last month. There is an occasional hesitation under hard acceleration. I believe the problem is the engine coolant sensor. Being very busy I just bought another van with the intention of fixing my Bean. The wife says it must go as we have no room and are in the middle of a major house remodel.
This is my second Previa, I love these vehicles as they are as dependable as a good Lab. Off the top of my head, the items replaced are as follows; Struts and mounts, rear shocks......I lifted the body an extra 1 1/2" during the shock and strut job Front half shafts Drive shaft LSPV Exhaust and sensors including the Cat All four corners calipers, rotors and mid range pads I have done the body work on this, cut out the rotten metal and welded in new sheet metal......not a Concours job, but acceptable The Pirellis have about 500 miles on them, put on a couple of months ago This Previa was in no way, shape or form neglected. Any time something arose or needed scheduled maintenance, it was done. I spent alot of time keeping this beauty bullet proof. Feel free to shoot me questions, as I am sure there will be many. |

Toyota confirms 2014 Highlander is in a New York state of mind
Wed, 13 Mar 2013Toyota has confirmed that it will be showing off the all-new 2014 Highlander at the New York Auto Show later this month. It's been a while since we've heard about the updated Highlander, but given just how long this thing has been on the market, we certainly hope that the list of changes will be more extensive than the new 2014 Toyota Tundra that debuted in Chicago last month.
Currently, the Highlander is offered in both naturally aspirated and hybrid versions, with front- and all-wheel drive. We don't expect the formula to change too much, since sales of the Japanese CUV are still steady - well in line with newer players in the segment like the Ford Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder and GM's Lambda triplets (Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave).
We'll have the full skinny on the new Highlander in the coming weeks. For now, scroll down to read Toyota's incredibly brief press blast.
Toyota recalling 342k Tacomas due to faulty seatbelt pretensioners
Wed, 07 Aug 2013Toyota is voluntarily recalling 342,000 Tacoma Access Cab pickups, produced between 2004 and 2011. The wide-ranging recall is due to faults in the screws that attach the belt pre-tensioner to the belt retractor. There are concerns that the screws can loosen themselves over time, especially if the access door is opened and closed with too much force. It's important to note that the recall only covers the driver and front passenger seat, and is limited to just the Access Cab trucks. Other body styles aren't affected.
If the screws come loose, the pre-tensioner and retractor spring could separate from the belt entirely, which would be bad news in a crash. There's no mention of injuries or accidents due to the faulty pre-tensioners. Owners affected by the recall will be notified soon, and asked to come in for recall service.
Scion pondering move upmarket?
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Scion is simultaneously celebrating its ten-year anniversary with the 10 Series models and trying to figure out what to do with itself over the next ten years. Once a go-to consideration for young, first-time buyers who wanted something cool and different, in 2013 it has a model everyone is still talking about in the FR-S, a model few are still talking about in the iQ, and three models in between in the tC, xB and xD that make everyone wonder, "What happened?"
Automotive News spoke to Toyota's North American CEO, Jim Lentz - he was the VP in charge of Scion when it launched - about the options, and Lentz said one of them could be a move upmarket to challenge the established luxury brands that are moving downmarket. "There's going to be a big need in the $25,000 range for a fun-to-drive, nice-looking, value-oriented product," he said, and the FR-S, which starts at $25,255, could provide the platform for Scion to climb up a notch or two in price and perception. An idea like this could conceivably work in tandem with a proposal to move entry-level Scion products over to the Toyota brand - but remember, this is all just ideas on a whiteboard at the moment.
As opposed to an "entry-luxury fighter," the brand could swing back to the other option that was considered when it was formed, directly challenging the Korean makes that have usurped its cachet with first-time buyers. Lentz said Scion could go either way, and the tone of the piece seems to indicate that the final direction is still a ways away from being resolved.
