1969 Toyota Land Cruiser Fj40 Convertible/hardtop on 2040-cars

Year:1969 Mileage:9200
Location:

Weston, Connecticut, United States

Up for sale is a 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with a Chevrolet 350 Throttle Body Fuel Injected V-8. This truck was purchased a few years ago, out of Dallas, TX by the previous owner.  It spent its life dry.  It is a solid truck with all original metal and no rust.

The previous owner was a regular at Caffeine & Carburetors (http://) in New Canaan, CT, where the truck drew a strong crowd.  Be prepared to get compliments wherever you go.

The truck is always garaged, both at home and at work, but I drive it daily, so it does have some small blemishes.  It was painted Corvette Targa Blue about 2 years ago.  It was also outfitted with all new emblems from Toyota, new stainless steel hood latches, new windshield latches, and a billet aluminum hood ornament.  Little touches like the high-mount brake light indicate the care that went into the details during the restoration.

The truck drives smooth and steers easy -- people often comment that it doesn't drive like a 44 year old vehicle.  The power steering and power disc brakes at each of the 4 corners make it effortless, smooth, and fun.  It shifts easy.  It tracks straight.
     * This truck always starts up with no hesitation and no pumping the gas (fuel injection)
     * 4WD works great
     * Engine Mileage: 9,200
     * Chassis Mileage: ~112,000

Many upgrades:
     * New master/slave clutch cylinder
     * New starter
     * 4 wheel disc brakes
     * GM power steering
     * Rebuilt 1974 Toyota 4 speed transmission with a Ranger Torque Splitter for a 27% overdrive on the highway
     * Rebuilt 1976 4 speed transfer case
     * Shackle Reversal kit with 2.5" new front springs and 4" rear springs
     * 4 stock Toyota steel wheels and new hub caps with BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A (33X10.50X15 BFG KM2’s)
     * Pioneer stereo with auxiliary port
     * Custom subwoofer in Jerry Gas Can
     * Custom Gauges
     * Front Toyota bucket seats recovered with head rests
     * Center console (Tuffy) with lock system for storage.

Included in the sale:
     * Full hardtop: white top panel with sides painted in matching Corvette Targa Blue
     * Pair of full hard-doors, painted in matching Corvette Targa Blue
     * Full custom soft top with bows/frame
     * Bikini top w/ zipper-window panel for behind driver/passenger

Potential for inclusion in the sale:
     * 5 aluminum rims with 4 Futura Dakota RVT (33X12.50X15) ...as seen on the spare
     * Full second roll-bar
     * Pair of full soft-doors (black)
     * A second vinyl reproduction soft-top with bows
     * Rear bench seat
     * Pair of fender flares

Issues:
     * Fuel gauge is not accurate: shouldn’t be hard to adjust the float but I generally just fill it up at 1/2 tank.
     * Radio is not working but should be easy to fix — haven’t had the time and the engine plays a nice tune.
     * Emergency brake is currently disconnected because the drum was rubbing a bit.

I hate to sell this truck, and it’s been a difficult decision, but I’ve started driving further to work these days and it’s hard to justify putting those miles on this kind of vehicle.  If I could keep it as a third car, I would.

I’m looking to find somebody who'll give this ruck a good home and will enjoy it as much as I have.  I’m hoping for a local sale so I can see it around — maybe enabling me to buy it back someday.  Because it’s for sale locally, there’s a chance that I’ll have to end the auction early — without advanced notice or explanation.
A lot of money has been put into it by the previous owner and myself.  At the reserve, you’d be getting a lot of truck for your money.  If possible, I encourage you to come see/drive the vehicle but, if you had to purchase it sight-unseen, I'm sure that you won’t be disappointed.

*CLARIFICATION: This vehicle does NOT have a title (but eBay doesn't have an option for title-doesn't-exist).  State of CT doesn't require a title for vehicles older than 1981.  If your state differs, you can likely get a replacement issued.  It's currently registered and insured.

More pics/video below.  I've tried to be thorough with the pics but let me know if there's something else you'd like to see:

I will consider all reasonable offers and I will consider trades for late-model Jeep 4-door Wranglers with low miles.

I’ll answer any questions as completely and as promptly as possible.  Thanks for your interest and good luck in the auction.

2014 Toyota Highlander recalled over seatbelt anchors

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

Toyota has announced a small recall of its redesigned, 2014 Highlander over issues with one of its seat belts. The affected vehicles, which were built from November 20, 2013 to January 18, 2014, could have a seatbelt assembly in the middle seat of the third row that wasn't properly secured to a floor anchorage at the factory.
In total, 7,067 of the new Highlanders are included in the recall, which was discovered not after a crash, but during a post-build inspection at the factory. It's unclear if there have been any injuries as a result of the faulty seat belts.
Toyota is set to inform owners of the affected vehicles as well as dealers with the recalled Highlander models in their inventory. Naturally, repairs will be performed free of charge. For the full bulletin form the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, scroll down.

Toyota recalling 342k Tacomas due to faulty seatbelt pretensioners

Wed, 07 Aug 2013

Toyota is voluntarily recalling 342,000 Tacoma Access Cab pickups, produced between 2004 and 2011. The wide-ranging recall is due to faults in the screws that attach the belt pre-tensioner to the belt retractor. There are concerns that the screws can loosen themselves over time, especially if the access door is opened and closed with too much force. It's important to note that the recall only covers the driver and front passenger seat, and is limited to just the Access Cab trucks. Other body styles aren't affected.
If the screws come loose, the pre-tensioner and retractor spring could separate from the belt entirely, which would be bad news in a crash. There's no mention of injuries or accidents due to the faulty pre-tensioners. Owners affected by the recall will be notified soon, and asked to come in for recall service.

Toyota to start production of hydrogen vehicles in December

Sun, 08 Jun 2014

Toyota's hydrogen fuel cell vehicle will be in showrooms sooner than planned, the Japan Times reporting that production will commence in mid-December with the sedan following "by the end of this year." No reason was given for the new timeline; Toyota has been saying all along that we'd see it in 2015.
The company is said to be "considering" production volume of "dozens of... vehicles per month" at a "likely" price of eight million yen, which is $78,030 US. That is well in line with the numbers thrown around last year, when the target was somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000. Then late last year, during our first drive of the FCHV mule, we wrote that "the official quote... [is] that a price of 'less than 10 million yen is ideal.'"
That alleged $78K is a sizable sum to be one of the early adopters on the hydrogen fuel cell wagon train, but with things moving around so much - and with Toyota publicly citing hydrogen fuel cells as the future - there's plenty of reason to be cautious about that number.
