I have had this car for a good 4 years and it breaks my heart to put it up for sale; however, I will be moving soon and will not be able to take it with me. I am the third owner and one look at this car will tell you that it has been well taken care of. In fact, if it did not look well taken care of, I would have not bought it from the previous owner. This care has always been garaged, never been driven in the snow, has not seen rain except when it started raining while I was already on the road (you know how the Ohio weather is). To give you an idea about how well this car is cared for - I have the original instruction tape for the Blaupunkt tape deck that the car came with.

If you are looking to purchase this car, chances are you are an enthusiast and already know a lot of this vehicle, its history and its performance. A piece of history for sure it is. You can read more about it at the link below or the thousands of articles you will find online.

A little about this car:
  1. 2.5L N.A. 4 In-Line non-turbo
  2. Guards Red Paint
  3. Phone dial wheels
  4. Comes with a mini spare wheel which has never been used.
  5. The tires are Pirellis and they have less than 20K miles on them
  6. Power mostly everything - power sun-roof (removable), power windows, power side mirrors, power drivers seat, power steering
  7. Cruise control
  8. Nifty mileage gauge that tells you what mileage you are getting
  9. Gear change indicator
  10. Original tape deck with original instruction cassette
  11. Comes with original tool kit
  12. Mostly original items other than the usual wear items like, tires, wipers, etc.

While this car is in exceptional shape for its age, it is not perfect. One issue I know is that while the fuel gauge works, it does not move through the whole range of the gas tank. In other words, the needle will point as high as it can when the tank is full but will go only to about half when it is empty. The good news however is that the gas low indicator light does come on in a timely manner and so I am thinking/guessing that its a matter of calibrating the needle.

The other issue - not really and issue - is that the pad wear indicator light is on. I have the brake pads and just haven't had the chance to do the work myself or take it to the shop. I will be happy to include both the front and rear pads and pad wear indicators when selling the car.

I am attaching the copies of the receipts of the most recently done work to the car. This includes the timing belt, engine pad, water pump. You can look at the rest in the receipts.

Some commonly asked question:
  1. Are there cracks on the dash - No
  2. Is the center console intact - Yes it is. It has the separators for the tape as well.
  3. Do you have the original window sticker - No I do not.
  4. Do you have the original manuals with the dealer stamp in it - Yes I do.
  5. Is the black lining along the rear hatch intact - Yes. I do not see any cracking or peeling
  6. Is the sound and insulation over the engine in good condition - Yes. I see some fraying but this is expected for a car this age
  7. Are there any scratches and dents - There is some pitting in the front but only if you look close. I could not capture them in pictures. There is a slight dime size depression on the roof and above the wheel on the rear driver side. Its hard to capture these using the camera and you have to look closely for them. There is a scratch on the paint above the rear driver side wheel which I think can be filled in.

I will try my best to answer any additional questions you have. I am selling the car as-is and welcome you to see the vehicle in person or have it inspected.

I have two requests - please only bid and ask questions if you are serious. I am more than willing to help you with all your questions but please ask those if you are serious as I am busy with moving. The other request is please do not bid over the reserve and then retract the bid to find the reserve.

Auto journalist ordered to pay big money for blowing up Porsche 917 engine [UPDATE]

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

Racecars blow engines all the time, but a Porsche 917 isn't just a run-of-the-mill racecar. British automotive writer Mark Hales reportedly borrowed a 917 from 82-year-old former Formula One racer David Piper for a magazine article, and mechanical tragedy ensued. Nobody is arguing that the engine failed after being spun to 8,200 rpm. However, Hales was warned not to exceed 7,000 rpm, says owner Piper, and the affair landed in English courts with Piper seeking £50,000 - over $79,000 US - in reimbursement funds for an engine rebuild and loss of use of the car while it was being repaired. Judge Simon Brown ruled in favor of car owner Piper, putting Hales on the hook for £110,000 ($174,000) including legal fees - a whole lot of money in any language.
Hales says the Porsche suffered a mechanical fault while lapping that allowed it to slip out of gear and over-rev. Piper wasn't convinced, and sought to have the repair paid for by the guy who broke the racer, saying "If you bend it, you mend it." It's not like Hales is a novice driver, having seat time in both professional and amateur races over 30 years, notching about 150 wins, but even the best drivers sometimes miss a shift, and that's what Piper contended happened to his car.
According to reports, Hales has had to sell most of his valuables to pay his lawyers and is now facing bankruptcy with the ruling against him. Members of the Pistonheads website are trying to coordinate a collection to help him out, as well.

Porsche 918 Spyder pre-production version in all its almost-done glory

Sun, 18 Aug 2013

Porsche continues the long tease of its upcoming 918 Spyder, with the latest instantiation here at the Pebble Beach Concours, with the car presented in pre-production form to the throngs on the golf course.
Just a few days ago Porsche dropped an image of the car on its official Twitter feed. True to that leak, this 918 looks damn near what we expect the full customer version to be when it is officially debuted in Frankfurt. The neon-green brake calipers are items new to this version of the 918, and seem to be an identical color to those found on the Panamera S E-Hybrid.
When it shows up as a drivable piece, expect the Porsche supercar, with its gasoline-electric drivetrain, to be pretty insane. Horsepower in excess of 800 ponies will be available with a toe-tap, while the price of entry is expected to come within shouting distance of $850,000. A good deal for Porsche to bring the thing to Pebble then, where buyers with that kind of cash are think on the ground (and most likely wearing sherbet-colored trousers).

First-ever Porsche headed home to company museum

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

About 30 years before Ferdinand Porsche designed the Volkswagen Beetle, he created the Egger-Lohner electric vehicle, C.2 Phaeton model - or simply, the P1 - you see above. This was the first vehicle created by Porsche, and the car gets its nickname from the fact that he had stamped "P1" on many of the parts marking it as the first Porsche... sorry, 356 No. 1.
Now while you'd think that such an important piece of Porsche heritage has been in a museum or even the automaker's not-so-secret lair, it has actually been sitting at a warehouse for the last 112 years. Thankfully, that's all about to change as Porsche has recovered P1, and the car will soon be on "permanent display" at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.
The P1 has a 3 horsepower motor capable of delivering a top speed of 21 miles per hour and a driving range of 49 miles, and, like many vehicles in Porsche's history, the motor is positioned at the rear of the vehicle. According to the press release posted below, the P1 finished first in a 24-mile electric vehicle race in Berlin in 1899, but it has been sitting since 1902.
