We are selling our 1989 944 S2 Cabriolet, as we are moving to Alaska and unfortunately it doesn't make sense to take it.  We are the 3rd owners - my father in law was the second owner.  It has been well cared for with all factory recommended maintenance including the last cam belt change at 131,000 miles (due at 191,000).  It had the top replaced about 10 years ago, the hood and front end repainted 2 years ago, a new stainless steel magnaflow catalytic converter and exhaust installed 1 year ago, and new tires 2 years ago.  It runs great - I drive it to work regularly.

The only things wrong with the car are: two seams on the leather seats are starting to split (I have wet okole covers on them); the motor for the top has been disconnected (it worked fine but my in-laws followed the advice of the porsche shop and disconnected it); minor hazing on the rear window; some minor scratches in the paint that you can see from a few feet away.  The car is beautiful with shiny paint, gorgeous top and smooth riding.

This is the first year that the 944 was available as a convertible, and includes all the design and handling elements of the turbo, with the high torque 3.0L S2 motor.

Watch Carrera Cup driver Connor de Phillippi's first lap of the N"urburgring

Thu, 23 May 2013

American race driver Connor de Phillippi was recently added to the roster of Porsche Juniors, the arm of Porsche's factory racing program that develops new talent. The 20-year-old is contesting the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland series with FÖRCH Racing by Lukas Motorsport, and last weekend, he raced the series round at the Nürburgring. Starting 15th on the grid, de Phillippi would cross the line in ninth out of 32 finishers.
Courtesy of his in-car camera, you can watch his entire first lap in the video below - there's no music added, just engine whine during nine minutes of crests, turns, bumpy straights and that wicked Carousel. Enjoy.

This Porsche 356 family keeps it outlaw

Wed, 29 Oct 2014

Rod Emory was the founder of Emory Motorsports in Burbank, CA, and the scion to a family tradition of building "outlaw" Porsches that are almost as cool as the cars themselves. The lovingly modified Porsche 356s are lovely artifacts, and their story, along with the story of their builders, is pitch-perfect for the Petrolicious oeuvre of beloved classics.
Tune in for the history lesson, and then stick around for the car candy.

Porsche Cayman S and Caterham 7 go head to head on the drag strip

Fri, 27 Jun 2014

We recently saw the standard Porsche Cayman go up against a Subaru WRX STI in a one-mile drag race with surprising results. Apparently, Evo had a similar idea of evaluating the Cayman's quickness. However, it opted for the more powerful S model and chose a flyweight Caterham Roadsport 140 as the challenger. Will the results of this battle be as close at the end of the kilometer-long (0.62-mile) drag?
Neither of these are cars you'd usually associate with drag racing, but they are nearly evenly matched. Evo selected them based on power-to-weight ratio, with the Caterham offering a scant 140 horsepower in a lithe 1,213-pound package. The Porsche is a quite svelte 2,910 pounds but has 325 hp to haul it around.
Of course, power-to-weight ratio isn't everything. There are a ton of other variables like aerodynamics and gearing that play a huge role, as well. Can the little Caterham's weight advantage overcome the better aero and additional power of the Porsche? Scroll down watch the video and find out.
