PHS documented 1979 Pontiac Trans Am SPECIAL EDITION. This is the real deal. 113,750 miles. Car has been nicely restored. 403, Automatic, AC, PW,  Cruise (not hooked up) tilt, AMFM cassette, Light Group, Custom Trim (orig. camel) soft ray glass. Previous owner had engine and tranny rebuilt, brakes redone, etc.  Has new interior – seats, carpet, headliner. Dash has no cracks – original console has been repaired. Not perfect but nice. This is a solid New Mexico desert car – lived there 35 years. Original matching numbers 403 motor, AT (non matching numbers but a Dec 1977 date code)

Beautiful BC/CC paint. Compliments wherever it goes. Deep shine. Car is driven so a few minor chips have been touched up. Slight cracking in front urethane bumper (see pic) and some bubbles in rear urethane bumper (see pic). Minor. Original wheels restored, some curb rash. New BF Goodrich tires. Rare Spare and inflator can and jack. Original T-top bags.  Runs and drives excellent- aluminum radiator, Edlebrock carb plus original carb included. Solid beautiful car that absolutely turns heads everywhere. Center of attention at all car shows. Speedometer is off by about 25 MPH- I think when they rebuilt tranny they installed wrong speedo gear. AC is super cold and was converted by previous owner to R134 but fan just stopped working except on low speed. Have not had time to investigate. This is not a trailer queen nor a perfect 100 pt car but you will be hard pressed to find one this solid and nice at a reasonable price. Ready to store, cruise or show. Shipping buyers responsibility, Please do not bid if you do not have the funds. Less than 10 feedback please contact me first. No warrantees expressed or implied, these cars are only going up in value. Feel free to ask any questions or make an appointment to see.

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.

1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction

Mon, 01 Aug 2011

For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.
