The 455 4bbl. V8 is number's matching to this car, factory rated at 255 horsepower. The engine compartment displays the original sheetmetal through the firewall, inner fenders, and core support. The original trim identification plate is in place as well. The engine runs smooth & strong, paired with the factory 3-speed automatic transmission. Be sure to play our video. The 455 engine option would disappear altogether by 1976.

The machine-turned dash and sport-oriented instrumentation were standard Trans Am features, known as the Rally Gauge cluster. The speedometer is a 160mph unit, paired with factory tachometer & clock. The steering wheel is the original 3-spoke. Although this car was originally ordered with an AM/FM Delco radio, it now has a delete plate, much cooler.

The sloping Endura front end made for the most aerodynamic Firebird Trans Am to date in 1974. The wheels of choice are the factory 15-inch Rally II wheels wrapped in Toyo 225/70R15 radials all around.

GM expands ignition switch recall to over 1.3 million cars amid climbing death toll

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

588,000 Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac Solstice and Chevy HHR models join the 778,000 cars already being recalled.
General Motors has announced a massive expansion of a 778,000-unit recall we told you about two weeks ago, doubling not only the total number of cars affected but expanding the recall beyond Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 models previously mentioned. The recall originally centered around ignition switches that could slip out of the "run" position if jostled or if any weight was applied to the key in the cylinder.

GM repairing 40,500 Pontiac Vibes as part of Toyota airbag recall

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

General Motors has confirmed to Autoblog that the Pontiac Vibe is included in Toyota's just-announced recall action. The Vibe and the Toyota Matrix share a large number of parts, including the affected cable to the airbag.
"About 40,500 Pontiac Vibes from the 2009-2010 model years are included in the Toyota recall. Toyota designed and engineered the Vibe for Pontiac. GM will service customers with these vehicles when Toyota makes the parts available," said GM recall spokesperson Alan Adler to Autoblog in an email.
The recall covers 1.3 million Toyota units in the US, including 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris, plus the addition of the 2009-2010 Vibe. The models all have their airbag module attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on this cable can be damaged when turning the steering wheel. Once broken, the airbag deactivates and the airbag warning light comes on. Toyota has an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin repairs. It will begin notifying owners soon.

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.
