AMERICAS ORIGINAL MUSCLE CAR TURNS 50!

This is a PHS documented GTO convertible.  I am the third owner and have had it since April of 2005. The previous owner had it for 22 years and bought it from the original owner in Georgia.  The original 389 ci. engine was rebuilt by the second owner more than 20 years ago. He added a small cam so the engine has a nice rumble to it.  He also painted the car, put on a new top, added disk brakes to the front, added air shocks to the rear end, put in the tri-power and 4 speed transmission.  The car runs good after it is warmed up.  No choke.  The undercarriage is clean and solid.

After I bought the car I added red line radial tires and seat belts to the back seat for my kids. Besides keeping it clean, that is about all I have done. I do have the original manifold, carb., and front drums for the car if you want them.

Like I said, the car runs good.  My wife and I do not get out in it that much but have taken a few 100+ mile trips with it without issue.

These photos were taken last summer.

The mileage stated is an estimate based on what I was told when I bought the car.

The car was repainted over 20 years ago and the paint is starting to check.  There are also a few paint chips and a small dent on the lower half of the passenger side door thanks to my son and his bike.  Body panels are seams are straight. The wipers run slow and may stick.  Engine runs rough when it is cold due to not having a working choke.  The car sits from late fall till mid spring.  there will be some drops of oil on the ground after I fire the car up and move it for the first time, but no puddles of oil.  As for negatives, I think that is it.  The cars biggest problem is that it does not get driven as much as it wants to.

Why selling?   I don't drive it enough to keep it.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Thanks

eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Pontiac GTO Monkeemobile

Sun, 29 Apr 2012

Say what you will about The Monkees, but the guys in the band had great taste in automobiles. Take the Monkeemobile, for example. Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, the custom featured genuinely interesting bodywork and some wild engine bolt-ons. If you're a fan of 1960s pop and yearn to relive the genre's glory days, eBay Motors may have what you need. A recreation of the 1967 Monkeemobile has showed up for auction. This particular replica was built by Dakota County Customs using an four-speed GTO, just like the original.
Built for the band's 45th anniversary and the final Monkees tour last year, this Monkeemobile is faithful down to every last detail. Unfortunately, the trumpet exhaust poking out of the front fender wells and the massive gold-flake blower are for show only. Seems fitting.
If you like what you see, this machine is up for bid in Richfield, Minnesota with two days left on the auctions. So far, bidding as whipped up to $60,000 with the reserve not met. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look.

1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction

Mon, 01 Aug 2011

For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
