Willoughby, Ohio, United States

This is a NO RESERVE listing.

This is my 2001 Mercury Cougar V6 Sport Zn edition with only 47,710 miles.

This is probably one of the cleanest, best-condition, lowest-mileage Cougars of this generation for sale anywhere. It is also one of the best-equipped, with nearly every available option.

If you have been looking for that "near-perfect" example of the last-generation Mercury Cougar, this could be the one for you.

This Cougar has the following equipment and options:
  • 2.5L Duratec V6 engine
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • Sport Package
  • Zn package (Zinc yellow with hood scoop and rear spoiler)
  • leather sport bucket seats
  • power moonroof
  • A/C (works well)
  • cruise control
  • power locks and windows
  • keyless remote entry
  • power driver's seat
  • 6-disc CD AM/FM radio
  • 17" aluminum wheels
I also have the original books and manuals with the car as well as the original window sticker showing the purchase price of $21,725.

The equipment level of this car is excellent- this car has the desirable 5-speed V6 Sport package along with the Zn package and the Sport Leather seats.  You cannot find a better-equipped version of this car.

This is absolutely one of the nicest Cougars you will find anywhere.  This car is outstandingly well-kept, clean and in excellent condition throughout, and it runs and drives like new.

The paint and body are excellent- the paint is in very good condition and looks superb.  The body is straight, clean and rust-free.  This exterior of this car has been very well kept and looks absolutely outstanding for the age.

The interior of this Cougar basically shows no wear.  The leather Sport seats are in superb condition and the carpets and upholstery are very clean and in excellent condition.  This interior is clean and beautiful- please see the photos.

This Cougar runs and drives beautifully.  There are no known mechanical or electrical problems.  The engine, transmission, clutch, suspension and brakes are all working well with no known issues.  This car is smooth, powerful and responsive.  It drives exactly the way it should for 47,000 miles.

Maintenance is up-to-date with the next oil change due at 50,133 miles.

This is a truly outstanding example of the last of the Mercury Cougars.  This is an amazing condition, superbly-equipped and well cared-for example of a great car that will continue to appreciate in value.  This car would make a great car to drive or one to put away as an investment.

This is a 2001 car, not a brand new one.  To be very picky, there is some wear on the bezels around the climate control knobs, and a few tiny stone nicks, small flaws, etc in the exterior.  Overall this is an outstanding car.

You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home.  Alternatively you can have the car shipped.  Please contact Angels Moving Autos at 530 245 0481 for a shipping quote.

This car is kept in my climate-controlled garage in Willoughby, OH.

NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"

NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey

Wed, 09 Jan 2013

The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.
