For sale is our 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7. We are the 4th owner of this vehicle. This is a 66,000 original miles Cougar with its original ginger houndstooth vinyl top. The Cougar Club of America has stated for the 1970 Cougar, "In a production run of 18,567 Cougar XR7s, only 488 were ordered and shipped with the medium brown, Houndstooth pattern inspired by Pauline Trig`ere".
The Cougar was painted black prior to our purchase. The car was originally a dark ivy green car. The paint is in excellent shape with no nicks or scratches. The Cougar's body panels are straight. The chrome is in very good shape as are the bumpers with some minor pitting. When we purchased the car I was told that all the body panels and chrome are original to the car. The prior owner installed the scoop and wing to give the car more of a sport look. The black paint along with the brown houndstooth roof are a great combination. Tires are in excellent shape. The car has been well kept and garaged the entire time we have had it and also by the previous owner. Have some original documentation that comes with the car as well.
The interior is all original. There are some loose seams on the driver seat but you need to look for them. The original radio is long gone. The Cougar now has a AM/FM CD player. Everything else is original inside. All the interior lights, warning lights, and gauges work as they should. Carpet is in excellent shape. The sequential taillights and the hide away headlights also work. Has what appears to be the original vinyl Cougar floor mats. The clock does not work.
Mechanically we have had no issues with the car except recently replacing the proportional valve for the brakes. Replaced with an adjustable valve. Car has flow masters and sounds awesome. This is a NOM 351-2V with all the original drivetrain to our knowledge. Engine runs strong. No ticks or leakage. Transmission shifts as it should. The fuel lines were replaced with stainless steel lines prior to our purchase. The AC does not presently work though all the components are there. Been told it was converted to R34 previously. The car is very solid mechanically and can be driven anywhere.
The reason for the sale is our son is heading off to College and thus we are selling this car in order to purchase a car for him. The Cougar has a great stance, appearance, and paint. The car is mechanically sound. Again, it has the very rare houndstooth vinyl top and the car always gets a lot of attention. If you are looking for a rare original Cougar that has not been molested, this is the car. Just a very solid overall car with a great look to it. We also have the Marti report for this car, originally sold in March of 1970. Please call Steve at 804-314-7492 with any questions. We welcome anyone to come out to view and test drive the car. You will not be disappointed.

Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls
Tue, 04 Nov 2014
Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder
Fri, 11 Jul 2014There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
Report: Lincoln getting all of Mercury's ad dollars
Mon, 03 Jan 2011Now that the curtain has closed on Mercury, Ford Motor Company will redirect all of its marketing dollars for the oft-overlooked brand to the Blue Oval's luxury outpost, Lincoln. In speaking to Automotive News, the chairman of the Lincoln National Dealer Council, Bob Tasca, Jr., said, "You'll see a lot stronger presence in the advertising of Lincoln in 2011."
Lincoln spokesperson Christian Bokich reminded AN that the automaker is "preparing the way for seven new or significantly refreshed vehicles" that will be launched over the next four years, and the largest ad blitz in 2011 will focus on the refreshed MKX crossover, as well as the MKZ sedan and its hybrid counterpart. Following that, Lincoln has plans to launch a completely overhauled version of its Navigator SUV, an all-new C-segment vehicle and the overhauled 2013 MKZ, which Tasca says will be "strikingly different from its Ford Fusion sibling."
