1969 Cougar 80,569 Miles Nice Car Mercury 69 on 2040-cars
Raymond, Illinois, United States
Selling a nice 69 Cougar. I bought the car off the original owners family. The car has been garaged most of its life and was in the garage when I bought it. After the original owners wife passed away the daughter would drive it when she came home to visit. Car is a nice well taken care of original car. The paint is fadded and was repainted in the late 70s with crapy Dupont Centari paint. There was a few dings fixed and a scrape fixed when it was painted. The body is straight with a few dings and a few rust bubbles. It has a few bubbles in the corners of the left door but the inside is clean. The right door is clean inside and out and has a few dings. The front fenders are clean and straight. The left quarter has a small hole behind the left rear wheel. It was just a small pin hole and some ass hole jabbed a screw driver through it. The right rear quarter is rust free and has peeling paint off the primer of a previous repair on the body line behind the door. It appears it had a scrape or rub in that area. There is no bondo where the car would rust out. The trunk lid is straight and clean on the inside. The top is not crack and looks like there is no rust under it. The glass and windsheild is good shape. Trim is all complete. The hideaway headlights work and stay closed for a few hours after you run it. It most likely needs new vacuume lines to stay shut all day. The turn signals and rear taillights work properly. The front bumper has a upwards dent in it from the farmer/owner jacking it up with a handy man jack. The rear bumper is straight but needs rechromed. Has front power disc brakes and they work properly. There is a rattle in the right front. I think it is the shock. The engine runs great and fires right up. It has factory power steering and factory bower brakes and they work good. The factory A/C needs repaired. It was working when I bought it but has leaked off since. The A/C hose that goes from the condensor to the compressor is loose where it is crimped to the tube. The interior is in nice shape. The dash, carpet, seats, door panels, console and weatherstrip are all original and has no cracks or tears. Even the weatherstrip is not cracked. The headliner was replaced with the correct pattern headliner. The under body was undercoated when new and has no rust. The torque boxes and frame rails are rust free. The front floor pans are great inside and out. Under the back seat there was a few pin holes in the floor pan from the inside and it was fixed. The trunk drop downs are straight and not rusted. I took out the interior and washed out all the rockers, floors and quarters then I rust proofed everything. It has a new fuel pump. It runs and drives great and I would not be afraid to drive it anywhere. I have the original Cougar hub caps but I took them off and put on Mustang hub caps. I have the original warranty card and original purchace invoice. Have 2 build sheets from under the carpet. I also have several papers from the owner. I am a small car dealer and collect cars also. I bought this car and would like to keep it and do a Cougar Elminator clone but I need to spend some money on 4 other cars I am restoring so I am letting this one go. Since I am a car dealer in IL you will have to pay title and sales tax if you live in IL. Any questions you can call my shop at 2one7 2two9 3four2four

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday
Mon, 04 Oct 2010Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
Kit Cat: Mercury Cougar makes perfect Bugatti Veyron substitute

If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.
Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
