***1965 MERCURY CYCLONE 289 A CODE BUCKETS CONSOLE SURVIVOR RED RED***
***COLD AIR CONDITIONING --- AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION --- POWER STEERING***
***CARNIVAL RED PAINT --- RED BUCKET SEAT INTERIOR***

This is a 1965 Mercury Cyclone coupe in Carnival Red with red bucket seat interior. The owner asked me to list because he is moving to Florida and downsizing. This is a pretty original car with 106K miles on it. The only changes from original are the Cragar SS wheels, conversion to a dual chamber master cylinder, replaced the original four barrel with an Edelbrock and the AC compressor has been upgraded. The car is a great driver with power steering and automatic C4 transmission. I could not find any rust or evidence of previous rust on the solid body. It has been repainted once. The paint has aged and has some chips and blems. We believe the interior is original with buckets and console and a white headliner. The AC is very cold. AM radio does not work. Engine is the 289 A code that runs well. Car is a solid driver that could easily be taken to a higher level. It's a nice survivor car. Email any question or ask for the owner's number if you would like to take a look at the Cyclone.

It has the Cyclone flag emblems on the rear quarters.

Body is straight and rust free

Tires are P205X70X15 with Cragar SS wheels

Owner puts the clubs in the trunk and takes it to the golf course regularly.

Grill is sharp. Both bumpers could be re-chromed.

It has dual exhaust.

Owner believes the interior is original. When you sit in the driver seat you can tell it has some miles on it. I didn't see any rips in interior.

Factory bucket seats and console.

Note the AC unit under dash. We think it must have been installed at the factory or at the dealership when car was new.

Sharp interior

Instruments are clear - 6,617 miles which we believe is 106K original miles. Horn on steering wheel does not work.

Owner added tachometer. AM radio does not work.

Note Mercury head on AC unit - AC blows very cold.

Comet trim on glove box - glove box opens and closes easily

Console door

Inside console

Headliner looks original - dome light comes on when either door is opened

Back seat - owner added the third brake light

Driver door jamb - trim tag is shown enlarged below

Cyclone trim on door

Driver door panel

Passenger door panel

The engine is a 289 A code. The original carburetor was gone when the owner got the car. It has an Edelbrock four barrel on the original cast iron intake.

Car has power steering that works well and the AC compressor has been upgraded to a more dependable one.

The 289 has chrome valve covers and aftermarket air cleaner

Brakes have been upgraded to a dual chamber master cylinder.

Original sticker on shock tower

AC condenser

Underside of hood

VIN plate - 5H27A565478 - built in Lorain with a 289 A code for four barrel. The 63E is the Cyclone hardtop, J is Carnival Red, 85 is red vinyl interior with buckets, Axle is 3 to 1 and Transmission is the C4.

VIN on car matches VIN on title. Title is clear and ready to transfer to new owner. The owner has had the car longer than indicated on title. He gave it to his son and later got it back.

Sharp grill and vertical headlights

You can see original bumper chrome has aged. The rear bumper is in better shape than front.

Hood opens and closes easily

Driver front fender and trim

The windshield was replaced a few years ago.

I did not see any dings in the roof trim.

Car has a solid body with no rust or damage other than paint blems from age

Ford Muscle Parts sticker

Back glass

Rear wheel on driver side

Cyclone deck trim

Flag trim has faded over the years

Deck lid

I noticed one ding in rear trim

It has dual exhaust

Passenger rear quarter

All four tires are P205X70X15

Trim is nice for its age

Doors open and close correctly

Vent glass

Body has rocker trim

eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

Report: Lincoln getting all of Mercury's ad dollars

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

Now that the curtain has closed on Mercury, Ford Motor Company will redirect all of its marketing dollars for the oft-overlooked brand to the Blue Oval's luxury outpost, Lincoln. In speaking to Automotive News, the chairman of the Lincoln National Dealer Council, Bob Tasca, Jr., said, "You'll see a lot stronger presence in the advertising of Lincoln in 2011."
Lincoln spokesperson Christian Bokich reminded AN that the automaker is "preparing the way for seven new or significantly refreshed vehicles" that will be launched over the next four years, and the largest ad blitz in 2011 will focus on the refreshed MKX crossover, as well as the MKZ sedan and its hybrid counterpart. Following that, Lincoln has plans to launch a completely overhauled version of its Navigator SUV, an all-new C-segment vehicle and the overhauled 2013 MKZ, which Tasca says will be "strikingly different from its Ford Fusion sibling."

Kit Cat: Mercury Cougar makes perfect Bugatti Veyron substitute

Bugatti Veyron kit car - Click above for high-res image gallery
If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.
