Representing the final year for the 107 Mercedes chassis, and at its zenith in refinement, the 1989 production 560SL Roadster Hardtop/Convertible is now considered the best investment and most reliable of the years spanning from 1971 to 1989.

A look at the NADA valuations of this car are pretty impressive.

This is a clear titled car.

Lovely in Signal red, with a rich Palomino Leather interior, its in excellent condition and is a absolutely rust and accident free car which runs and drives with no mechanical issues what so ever.  Very nice carpets, flawless dashboard, and a delightful sounding original Am/Fm stereo with a Alpine Multi player C/D changer in the trunk.   Its hardtop, not shown , is also Signal red in color and has lived most of its life stored away. Its in excellent condition with a nice headliner, and functioning rear glass defroster.

As with every car of this vintage, sans a "concourse" cars, it's not perfect.   The convertible top is in very nice condition with a clear rear window, but has a small, nicely done repair to the center outer right canvas. There are no leaks when it rains.  Additionally, the air conditioning is inoperative and needs to be diagnosed.  All other features of the car operate normally.

This is a  gorgeous, driver quality car, which drives and handles wonderfully.  The engine, driveline, suspension, exhaust, body, glass, chrome, trim,  etc, have absolutly no issues, leaks, smoke, noises or anything else for that matter.  Its acceleration is seamless and exhilarating and it draws a lot of attention on the road.

Please keep in mind, I will reserve the right to end the auction early, given the fact the 560SL is for sale locally.  Second, the 560SL will be sold as is, where is with no warranty expressed or implied.

To the lucky bidder, I will require a $1000 deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of auction end, with final payment to be made within seven days of auction end via certified funds or wire transfer.

Last, please and respectfully, do not ask my reserve.  The "Buy it Now" price will provide you with a good  idea of what I will sell this fun car for.

Thank you for the interest, and good luck bidding.

Paul di Resta returns to DTM with Mercedes

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

Some drivers manage to make the transition from one form of motor racing into another, and some run into trouble. Take Paul di Resta, for example. The promising young Scottish driver dominated Formula 3 racing in Europe in 2006, then moved over to Germany's hugely competitive DTM touring car series where he finished second in 2008, third in 2009 and first in 2010. But things didn't go as smoothly for Paul - cousin to retired Indy champion Dario Franchitti - when he moved in to Formula One with the Force India team.
In three years on the grid, he failed to score a single podium finish. Little surprise, then, that Force India opted not to renew his contract for this season. Left without a ride, di Resta is now going back to DTM with longtime supporter Mercedes-Benz, testing the new C-Class touring car today in Portugal. It's good news for Mercedes, which is celebrating 120 years in motor racing this season and, with 2005 champion Gary Paffett also on board, can now count two former champions on its DTM roster.
We wouldn't count Paul out of F1 for good, though. When he won the DTM title four years ago, he was also moonlighting as Force India's test driver, and we wouldn't be surprised to see him pull similar double-duty with the Mercedes F1 team (or another Benz-powered outfit) this year before spring-boarding back into grand prix racing in the future. At 27 years old, he may not have been the youngest driver on the grid this year, but he's still got a good few years ahead of him.

13-year-old boy swipes dad's Mercedes, drives across Europe

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

After an argument with his adoptive parents that resulted in them taking away his mobile phone, an angry 13-year-old boy ran away from his home in Italy and headed straight to Poland to meet his biological sister. But instead of taking the train or hitching a ride, like most on the run, the young man (an accomplished go-kart racer and car enthusiast) grabbed the keys to his father's Mercedes-Benz and jumped behind the wheel for an impromptu road trip.
With less than 200 euros (about $270) in his wallet and a passport in his pocket, the youngster managed to put more than 500 miles between himself and his distraught parents, crossing two international borders in the process, before German police nabbed him just shy of the Polish border. According to reports, the vehicle was tracked - it wasn't his driving that alerted authorities to his location.
Reunited with his mother and father, who traveled to Germany to retrieve both their son and the vehicle, the young man apologized and acknowledged his error. As a result of his actions, social workers will increase checks on the family and we can be sure his parents are now hiding the keys.

Daimler names Bernd Pischetsrieder to supervisory board

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Some executives in the automotive industry stay with one company for their entire careers, while others bounce from one to the other, often leaving their indelible mark on each automaker at which they serve. Bob Lutz is certainly an example of the latter. So is Lee Iacocca, having presided over Ford and later charing the Chrysler board. Carlos Tavares was chief operating officer of Renault before being nominated as chief executive at PSA Peugeot Citroën. But as far as the Germans go, nobody's jumped from the leadership of one automaker to the next quite like Bernd Pischetsrieder - especially now that he's been named to the supervisory board of Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler.
An engineer by training, Pischetsrieder started his career at BMW in 1973, eventually rising to the office of CEO after twenty years. There he remained until 1999, only to be dismissed after orchestrating BMW's takeover of the Rover Group (of which only the Mini brand remains in the company's portfolio, the other brands having been sold off after his dismissal).
The next year he was named chairman of Volkswagen's Seat brand, and rose to the chairmanship of the entire Volkswagen Group two years later. Despite a largely successful four-year tenure (that gave birth, incidentally, to the Bugatti Veyron), disagreements with supervisory board chairman Ferdinand Piëch saw him leave the helm at VW AG, focusing his attention on the Scania truck division. He's since been touted as a potential chief executive for Opel and for Continental, but neither potential was apparently realized.
