I am selling this car for an elderly neighbor who does not want to bother with it.  She has owned the car since 2006 or 20,000 miles and has every record, over $10K in receipts from American Service Center in Arlington, VA, car has 73,xxx miles currently.  If you are looking for a well maintained E-class wagon that is not in perfect cosmetic condition, then look no further.  This car has been parked on the street and shows moderate curb rash to the wheels, slight paint chips on the bumpers, a few scratches in the clear coat on the rear passenger door, oxidation on the headlamp lenses, and oxidation on the front driver's quarter panel (would benefit from a wet sand).  The interior is in very good condition, but in need of a thorough detail.  The shift knob has slightly faded, there are key marks around the glovebox lock, two 2" hairlines on the wood trim in the driver's side door panel, soiling on the sills, mark on the headrest of the 3rd row seats and dirty carpets.  There are no rips, tears or odors.

The car is fully loaded with every option including the appearance package (vented heated contour front seats, xenon lamps, navigation, etc), cd player, 3rd row seats, 17" wheels (with newer tires), power tailgate, and I am sure I am forgetting some options as well.  The best part of this car is that it has all records for the last 6 years from a MB dealer!  New rear rotors and pads and rear Contis @ 72K, battery @73k, new front air shock @ 73k, front tires, front lower balls joints and rear main seal @ 62k, tranny flush, power steering flush @ 50k, and all records going back to 20k miles.

I figure the car needs a professional detail ($300), wet sand and potential respray on front quarter panel ($500), if desired respray front and rear bumpers, polish headlamps, touch up two scratches on rear passenger door, and potentially refinish wheels to make it showroom.  The private party book on the car is $19K in current condition.  Please feel free to make offers understanding that this car is not showroom, but is in great mechanical condition with records for the last 53k miles.  If you want to see additional pics or have specific questions, please let me know.

Maybach lost upwards of $500k on each vehicle sold

Wed, 08 Feb 2012

Daimler is shuttering Maybach in 2013 after seven years of production. In that time, the company's ultra-ultra-luxury arm managed to sell just 3,000 units, and CAR reports Daimler lost somewhere around $500,000 on each and every one of them.
Even with a ludicrous price tag of over $370,000 for an "entry" Maybach 57, the brand couldn't quite recoup the dizzying $1.33 billion Daimler poured into it since its (re)inception. Rumors ignited over a possible tie up with Aston Martin that would have resulted in a range of new and attractive models, but Daimler has instead decided to snuff out Maybach altogether.
We can hardly blame them.

Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!)
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G. Not surprisingly, each of these were the most common models in their respective lineups. Los Angeles and Miami are also prime hotspots for luxury car thefts, according to the Detroit News report.
While getting your car stolen is pretty awful, there was one inspiring statistic compiled by the NICB - the average recovery rate across the board was 84 percent, with the Cadillac CTS getting recovered 91 percent of the time.

Mercedes FWD platform to last until 2018, convertible and two-seater future uncertain

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz seems to be expecting a lot of success from its front-wheel-drive CLA-Class. Automotive News is reporting that the sub-C-Class sedan could grow when its second generation arrives in 2018.
The current FWD platform for MB underpins the CLA, the B-Class, the GLA-Class, and the A-Class. The B-Class will arrive in North America as an EV for spring of 2014, while the production GLA crossover will arrive three to four months after that. The five-door A-Class won't be crossing The Pond. Sad faces all around.
According to AN, another model will be based on the front-drive architecture, but it won't be coming to the US market. Set to arrive next year, rumors are that it'll be a wagon version of the CLA, sort of like the ill-named five-door CLS Shooting Brake that is also a Europe-only item.
