defects on this vehicle. The car looks great and is clean. The trunk has a black all weather mat inside. Full size Mercedes spare as you can expect with a Mercedes. The engine is very strong and provides the power you have come to expect from a Mercedes and runs extra smooth. The transmission has the Mercedes mark on it as well and shifts like on a new car, no skips or slips on shifts. The suspension feels very nimble and comfortable at the same time. Traction control helps this car stick to the ground. The tires are new. The A/C works well and blows cold air. This Mercedes is equipped with a dual-zone climate control system. All electrical components are in good
working order. The engine compartment is clean, and free of any leaks. The car
also comes with fairly new Nexen tires. These old E class diesels are still very highly desirable no matter the miles. However most cars out there for sale out there today have quite a few miles and even though they still sell very well it naturally makes a low mile car very very rare and desirable. This is a low mileage 1997 which is one of the best years. There is a small dent on the rear bumper as noted in the photos and there is one (1) missing front right fog light that I may replace before the auction ends. Consumer Reports selling its road-tested roadsters [w/video]
Thu, 31 Jan 2013Here's a chance to acquire a celebrity-owned vehicles, and this time at a discount instead of a premium. So the celebrity in this case is Consumer Reports, that magazine that could be equally adored and abhored by car enthusiasts. CR buys all of its test vehicles and usually finds willing second owners within its own ranks, but its opening its small used-car lot to the public. On the forecourt are four roadsters: an automatic 2012 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic with 6,600 miles for $36,500, a manual 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i with 8,400 miles for $45,000, a manual 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 for $39,500 and a manual 2013 Porsche Boxster with 7,000 miles for $48,000.
Those numbers mean a savings of $9,000 to $10,000 before haggling - each car is listed with an "Asking price" so there could be some wiggle room if you show up with pockets full of dough and eyes full of serious intent. Since the money CR earns from the sales go back into the magazine's budget to buy more test cars, however, it probably won't take any oddball trades, so you can forget about getting any purchasing help from that track-day AMC Javelin project on blocks in the back yard.
The vehicles have been taken care of and spiffed up for sale; buyers will take delivery at the CR test track in East Haddam, Connecticut and get a tour of the facilities. While you're there they'll even take you on a lap around the track so you can feel how your car handles when driven by one of its testers. They will probably not help you with advice on which toaster and dehumidifier to buy - you'll still need to get a subscription for that. VW looking to MAN up, ditch Mercedes van deal
Wed, 16 Jan 2013Unlike the US, the commercial truck market throughout the rest of the world is chocked full of competitors from many different automakers. Since 2006, Volkswagen has had a fullsize van called the Crafter that was a result of a partnership with Daimler AG and based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. This partnership is supposed to last through 2016, but Reuters is reporting that VW might be looking to end its relationship with Daimler and create its own van in cooperation with German truck and bus maker MAN.
The article says that VW AG has more than a 75-percent stake in MAN, which would essentially be keeping the new commercial vehicle in-house. Even if VW bolts, Daimler still has a deal worked out in the commercial truck industry between its subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso and Renault-Nissan to supply the other with different trucks.
