1978 Mercedes Benz 280ce--classic Coupe, Clean, Original, Gasoline. Rare. on 2040-cars
Lake Oswego, Oregon, United States
1978 MBZ 280CE- A nice running classic Mercedes coupe sure to only appreciate! A classic you can drive every day. Originally and always an Oregon car. Oregon custom plates, "280CE".
This is a solid, original, never wrecked survivor, not restored but in close to perfect condition, needing just minor details to be a showpiece. Engine is the super reliable Mercedes M110 straight six, twin overhead cam--starts runs great, no bad noises or smoke. Automatic transmission shifts nicely and without delays or slipping. All the power accessories, steering, brakes, etc. operate as they should. Sunroof opens and closes with no problem. Power windows all work well. No leaks but some seepages here and there as expected on a 36 year old car. Nothing on the ground where the car is parked. Paint is a second coat and fading in places, please refer to pictures: this is what it looks after a good wash, not perfect, a ten footer. No dents or scrapes on the body. No rust to speak of, some oxidation on exposed metal surfaces but nowhere near a rust through. Interior leather is generally good and undamaged save for a one inch tear on the passenger seat bottom cushion. Headliner is perfect. Carpets are clean but some have some unraveling in the corners, still quite usable. The adjust plastic handles on the driver's seat are broken but that doesn't affect the ability to move the seat. Heater controls work well, heater is fine, the A/C blows cold and cools but admittedly not to a modern car standards. Dash is not cracked. Radio is a cassette Pioneer, quite '80's. Power antenna needs a new mast but the motor works. Wheels are chromed MBZ wheels, some peeling, pictured. Tires are matching Michelin Energy with 60% tread left. Front brakes and brake fluid are new. Fresh engine oil. It has been sitting for a few months without daily use so a good service would be welcome, then it could be a daily driver. |

Volvo S60 Polestar concept plays in the snow with Mercedes C63 AMG
Thu, 24 Jan 2013Chris Harris took to a snowy stretch of tarmac to get a fingertips-on-the-wheel feel of the Volvo S60 Polestar concept. Harris says the turbocharged sedan with 508 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque - and a manual transmission - is "a study to see if Volvo can get back into the fast-car market." The Polestar S60 concept, one of which was already purchased for $300,000 by a private buyer, is still making the publicity rounds because even Volvo's Chinese owners realize that, as Harris says, "Volvo sold more cars because it made fast cars" like the old 850 T5 Wagon that stormed the British Touring Car Championship in the 1990s.
For reference, Harris compares the blue wonder to the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and its 487 hp and 442 lb-ft. The question is, were Volvo to get the price of a production version of the S60 Polestar to climb way down from its 200,000-pound sticker, could it be worthy competition to the established giants?
You can watch Harris divine the answer via a lot of drifting through the snow and a drag race in the video below.
Maybach officially discontinues all models for 2013
Tue, 14 Aug 2012The word "Maybach" has joined the long list of synonyms for the word "kaput." Mercedes-Benz released the price list for the 2013 models of its super-luxury sedans, with the price column simply stating "Discontinued" for each one of them.
The 2012 models, should there be any left for 11th-hour buyers, maintain the increased MSRPs that Daimler slapped on them late last year after it was known the brand would be terminated next year. But you might still be able to wrangle that $100,000 rebate if you ask nicely, or in Russian, or have Rick Ross ask for you.
It shouldn't be too long before we see the ultimate version of the next generation S-Class, the S600 Pullman, that will replace Maybach. Intriguingly, it's said the Pullman will be offered with every S-Class engine, even the four-cylinder diesel.
Mercedes Sprinter updated to take on Ford Transit, Ram ProMaster
Mon, 29 Apr 2013By the end of this year, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will be the second-oldest nameplate in its segment here in the States, but with hot new competition waiting in the wings, Mercedes-Benz is giving its hauler a freshened look and more equipment to stave off rivals. The Sprinter was a pioneer in bringing Euro-style delivery vans to North America, and it's inspired others to transplant their Continental offerings, with the all-new Ford Transit and Ram Promaster models launching shortly. It will also continue to do battle with lower-cost traditional competitors like the Chevrolet Express and Ford E-Series.
The big Sprinter will thus get a new look to go with more safety features and available technology. While the information released here technically covers the Euro-spec 2013 Sprinter (which goes on sale in September), the US market is expected to get the new Sprinter for the 2014 model year with many of the same features. Some of this new technology includes a Crosswind Assist feature as standard equipment and the availability of Collision Prevention Assist and Blind Spot Assist as optional safety measures - Mercedes-Benz says that all three are firsts for any van in the world. Also added to the updated Sprinter is a new 1.8-liter supercharged gasoline (or CNG) engine producing 156 horsepower, which will complement the line of diesel engines that carry over and help make the Sprinter the first cargo van to meet the upcoming Euro VI emissions standards. Additionally, a lower ride height is said to improve fuel economy and should improve handling while aiding ingress and egress for both people and cargo.
In terms of styling, the Sprinter's new face also looks more like the current line of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. This includes a more upright grille along with changes to the hood, headlights and bumper that lend it a closer kinship to models like the CLS-Class and the updated E-Class. The Sprinter will offer both halogen and HID headlights, while the latter will get LED running lamps and offer Highbeam Assist. The images shown here only reveal the exterior from front angles, but it looks like few, if any, changes have been made to the rear of the van. Interior upgrades include a thicker steering wheel, a new shift lever and the latest in audio, navigation and entertainment systems. Scroll down for the official press release for the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
