1971 Mercedes Benz W108 280s, Like 220 250 Se W109 W110 W111 W112 Classic Car on 2040-cars

US $4,900.00
Year:1971 Mileage:117000
Location:

Originally a California car, spent last few years in Seattle, 117k miles. Rare optional AC and power sunroof, both in working condition.

Very original unmolested car with one repaint many years ago, very much rust free in excellent mechanical condition. You can drive this one across the country today!

Body is basically very straight, but has multiple small imperfections. Some areas of clearcoat peeling, some bruises and scratches. Paint has been touched up in several areas. The car looks good from 15 feet away, but what it really needs is new paint, which would make this car a show stopper. Chrome and anodized trim is in good to excellent condition. Glass is perfect w/o cracks or scratches. Good weatherstripping throughout.

Interior is a 9 out of 10, which is amazing considering the vintage. Seats are perfect, carpets are very good. Dash is very nice too. Headliner is great.

Engine is excellent, perfect compression of 170-175lbs across all 6 cylinders, very smooth, powerful and quiet. No smoke of funny noises of any kind! Fresh valve adjustment, oil and filter. Keeps good temperature. Ignition system is new. Carburators are in good tune and well synchronized. The car starts instantly, idles and accelerates very smoothly. In fact, if you didn't know the car is carbureted, you'd think it's a modern fuel injected engine! Wonderful drivability!

Transmission has been fully serviced with new fluid and filter, new vacuum modulator, new shifter bushings and adjustment. It shifts through the gears like butter.

Power steering works excellent and is quiet. Brakes have been fully overhauled and work perfectly. Recent radiator, front end, shocks and exhaust.

All lights and gauges work, including the clock! All window winders work.

Tires are new.

To sum it up, the car is a great driver, quiet, smooth and very powerful. It always packs an extra punch, even at freeway speeds, and is a great cruiser. It tracks straight, stops straight and generally feels very tight. Almost a modern car feel, which is what classic Benz are known for!

Things that will require attention:

The car will need a new paint job to be perfect, although presentable as-is.

Dash wood could stand refinishing, it is dull from age.

2 of the heater control knobs are broken, but I will include replacements.

One of the carburators seeps a bit of fuel to the outside and could stand a new gasket.

AC needs new compressor belt and recharge.

You can consider this car a "light" project, as it does have few needs. However, it's a car that can be used right away, and little things can be taken care of time permitting.

Rare find in this condition, you will not be disappointed!

Clear WA title is open, signed off by previous owner with a Bill of sale to me, and I will include a Bill of sale to the winning bidder. This is all that's needed to transfer ownership. If the buyer requests a title to be in the seller's name, I will have this done within 48 hours at an added cost of $200. Seller will assist with shipping logistics if needed. Please contact me for a shipping quote.

Please contact with any questions, or to make arrangements to inspect the car. Thank you

Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG spied in Sweden

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

We've spotted the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLA testing a couple times in recent months in getting closer to production form and shedding camouflage, but now it looks like we're see our first look at the AMG version of this compact crossover. The low ride height might trick some into thinking that we're just seeing the already-confirmed A45 AMG out testing, but the unique beltline, rear doors and side windows confirm this is some version of the GLA-Class.
What makes us so confident that this is the AMG model? Well, for starters, this prototype has beefier brakes with cross-drilled front and rear rotors and bigger front calipers, but it also sports dual exhaust outlets poking through the rear fascia and a suspension that has been lowered considerably. Our spy shooters said that this car's exhaust note made it almost certainly an AMG model.
Just to be clear, the GLA AMG will not be powered by a 4.5-liter engine. The closely related A45 AMG will carry the "45" in its name to celebrate the first 45 years of AMG, and our sources seem to indicate the AMG version of the GLA will do the same. We're expecting this sporty crossover to produce as much as 350 horsepower from its AMG-tuned four-cylinder engine, and like the all-new E63 AMG, it could very well come standard with 4Matic all-wheel drive.

Mercedes-Benz introduces new heavy security M-Class Guard model

Tue, 19 Mar 2013

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new addition to the company's line of personal security vehicles. The M-Class Guard features bullet-proof side windows made with special laminated glazing and a polycarbonate inner layer to protect occupants from shards of glass. Mercedes says the M-Class Guard meets protection level VR4 according to the Bullet Resistant Vehicles 2009 standards, based on testing from the independent Ulm-based Ballistics Bureau, which means it can withstand .357 Magnum and .44 fire from multiple angles. It can also stand up to the DM51 hand grenade when equipped with optional floor armoring. Why skimp?
Buyers looking for protection from the world's literal slings and arrows can opt for the ML350 BlueTEC with its 258 horsepower 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine. With 457 pound-feet of torque, the oil-burner should have no trouble hustling the privileged class about. Of course, the ML500 offers a bit more punch courtesy of a 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 with 408 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Prices start at 105,050 euros for the diesel and 118,650 euros for the V8. You can check out the full press release below for more information.

Consumer Reports selling its road-tested roadsters [w/video]

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

Here's a chance to acquire a celebrity-owned vehicles, and this time at a discount instead of a premium. So the celebrity in this case is Consumer Reports, that magazine that could be equally adored and abhored by car enthusiasts. CR buys all of its test vehicles and usually finds willing second owners within its own ranks, but its opening its small used-car lot to the public. On the forecourt are four roadsters: an automatic 2012 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic with 6,600 miles for $36,500, a manual 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i with 8,400 miles for $45,000, a manual 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 for $39,500 and a manual 2013 Porsche Boxster with 7,000 miles for $48,000.
Those numbers mean a savings of $9,000 to $10,000 before haggling - each car is listed with an "Asking price" so there could be some wiggle room if you show up with pockets full of dough and eyes full of serious intent. Since the money CR earns from the sales go back into the magazine's budget to buy more test cars, however, it probably won't take any oddball trades, so you can forget about getting any purchasing help from that track-day AMC Javelin project on blocks in the back yard.
The vehicles have been taken care of and spiffed up for sale; buyers will take delivery at the CR test track in East Haddam, Connecticut and get a tour of the facilities. While you're there they'll even take you on a lap around the track so you can feel how your car handles when driven by one of its testers. They will probably not help you with advice on which toaster and dehumidifier to buy - you'll still need to get a subscription for that. Have a look at the video below to see a day in the life of a CR test car.
