I'm selling a collector car project at a fraction of parts value. Not for the faint of heart. This auction includes two cars and all associated parts. Both cars are in a state of disassembly as follows:
The first car is a 65 250SE Sunroof Coupe. It has been completely disassembled for a professional quality restoration. Over $8,000 was spent for OEM replacement sheet metal panels, plus another $10,000 for fitting and body finishing. This car is a 100% rust-free California car with a substantial start on a quality restoration.
The gaps are perfect and the door jambs, engine bay, and entire underside of car have been refinished to correct original standards (through consultation with Mercedes Benz Classic Center). The overhauled engine and transmission, driveline, rear end, brakes, and suspension components, were then reinstalled using new OEM hardware. Much is left to be done, as the interior is out of the car, and all the wiring needs to be done. Included is a new correct complete leather interior (Hirsch), professionally re-veneered and complete interior wood set (Madera Concepts), new carpet set, headliner, one seat pad, new steering wheel and horn ring, rubber seal set, extensive completed chrome work including bumpers, door sills, door frame trim, seat hardware, headlight bezels, etc. Also included is a new OEM windshield, and complete exhaust system. The speedometer, tachometer and clock were restored by Palo Alto Speedometer. The Europa radio was restored by Walter Odemer Co. I believe the car is 100% complete except for hubcaps.
The second car is a 65 220SEb sunroof coupe. It was a running driving car 5 years ago, when it was mechanically freshened after a long period of sitting. Work included cleaning fuel system, new fuel pump, strip and line fuel tank, comprehensive tune-up with new plug wires, suspension bushings, tie rods, wheel bearings, brake system overhaul including rebuilt caliper assemblies, wheel cylinders and master cylinder, steering dampener, motor mounts, and subframe mounts, with receipts from the shop that did the work.

AMG-powered Aston Martins still years away
Mon, 16 Sep 2013After flirting for several years, Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin have finally tied the knot. Just don't expect to see any offspring to result from the union for at least three or four years.
This according to Auto Express, which spoke with Daimler chief Dr. Dieter Zetsche at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week. AE reports that a new range of AMG-developed turbocharged V8s, transmissions and electrical components will make their way into the successors to the current V8 Vantage and DB9, but that these models are still a few years off.
Purists might balk at the thought of a Mercedes-powered Aston holding true to the brand's heritage. But while David Brown (for whom the DB range is named) may have steered clear of shoehorning in Detroit muscle into his cars, the entirety of the company's current range is powered by engines borrowing technology from Ford, and that arrangement seems to have worked well for Aston until now. And if you're still skeptical, look no further than Pagani and its AMG-sourced engines and you should have all the proof you need that the new relationship between Daimler and Aston could be a success.
Man makes record-setting drive across the US in 28 hours, 50 minutes
Fri, 01 Nov 2013Records, as the say, are made to be broken. Whether that's cramming the most hot dogs down your gullet, running a faster mile, or yes, driving across the United States, odds are that there's someone out there wants to eat more, run faster or drive harder. Speaking of that last example, the record for driving from a set location on the east coast, in particular the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA, has been one that has fascinated gearheads since a guy named Cannonball Baker made the trek from New York to LA in 53 hours, 30 minutes, in 1933.
The competition saw its glory days when Car and Driver's Brock Yates came up with the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (more affectionately known as the Cannonball Run), although the record was most recently set by Alex Roy and his 32-hour, seven-minute trek behind the wheel of a BMW M5 in 2006. Now, there's a new champion, who made the trip from east to west in a scarcely imaginable 28 hours and 50 minutes, behind the wheel of a 2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG. That's works out to an average speed of 98 miles per hour over the course of 2,813.7 miles.
His name is Ed Bolian, and Jalopnik has a writeup of the epic voyage that details everything from the history of the Cannonball Run to Bolian's preparation and trouble finding co-drivers, to the trip itself. It is well worth a read.
Missouri Mercedes dealer offering free Smart with every SLS AMG purchase
Wed, 05 Dec 2012The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT is an exquisite sports car that probably needs no help flying off dealer lots, even with a starting price of almost $200,000, but Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City has come up with an interesting incentive to sweeten the deal. For buyers who purchase a new SLS AMG from dealer stock before the end of the year, the dealership is throwing in a new Smart Fortwo from its inventory at no charge... with a required coupon no less.
In addition to being a great tactic to get a little free press, the spare car also makes sense as an alternative to the SLS, which measures more than 15-feet long - almost twice the length of a Fortwo - and has a 563-horsepower engine that sucks down gas at the rate of 13 miles per gallon in city driving (and even that's provided you don't give in to the devil on your shoulder). Plus, at the end of the day, this really isn't that big of an incentive. Being given a slow-selling $12,490 car for the purchase of a model starting at $199,500 represents about a six percent incentive, which is along the lines of a $1,900 rebate for a $30,000 car.
To get the free Smart, just visit the Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Facebook page, redeem the coupon and then go buy yourself a new SLS AMG. Congratulations!
