After three years of rebuilding this Jeep to be a safe, head turning daily driver I need to sell it because I'm getting moved to South Dakota and I have an 11 week old newborn who's car seat just doesn't fit into this rig

I have nearly $17k in parts in this rig, so no low-balls, Nigerian PayPal, etc...

Pretty much everything has been replaced/rebuilt in this frame off restoration.  Professionally rebuilt engine 5,000 miles ago with a pertronic electronic ignition, rebuilt Turbo 400, Dana 300 and open Dana 44 rear about 15k ago.  Stock open Dana 30 front with locking hubs, have a d44 that will go with jeep for free, along with the original un-restored hardtop that will fit over cage, but all of the bestop fasteners would have to be removed to instal the hardtop.  Has a custom 8-point cage and 4 seats with 4-point harnesses.  New 33"x12.5" tires about 1000 miles ago.

This is a very solid Jeep that is ready to drive anywhere; I've taken it to LA from Tucson with no issues.  This is a road warrior Commando.  It just isn't a practical daily driver for me with a newborn in South Dakota, and I don't want to move it.

I can store the Jeep free for about a month no issues; if it takes longer for you to arrange travel I will have to leave the Commando with my brother here in Tucson and it will have to be stored outdoors...

I am only interested in a partial trade for an 88-90 goldwing 1500 for a flying motorcycle design I've been working on for years.  Contact me if you have questions or want to trade a wing: 702-630-0045

Commando is for sale locally, if I get a better price I'll end the auction and sell it locally.

NHTSA closes book on Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall after all

Mon, 20 Jan 2014

After much debating and hand-wringing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now says it has "no reservations" with Chrysler's plan to recall certain Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee models over concerns that their fuel tanks, which are located behind the rear axle, could rupture or leak in the event of a rear impact. The longstanding argument between the two entities saw Chrysler openly defy the Feds after a request to recall 2.7 million units back in June.
Chrysler's "voluntary campaign" will instead see it recall 1.56-million 1993-2004 model year Grand Cherokee SUVs, along with 2002-2007 Liberty models. Affected vehicles will get a trailer hitch installed free of charge, which Chrysler says will provide an additional degree of protection for the fuel tanks in the event of a crash. Jeeps with Mopar-branded hitches or hitches that were installed at the factory aren't affected by this recall.
Chrysler's argument throughout this battle has been that the Jeeps in question are no more susceptible to fires than comparable vehicles from the same time period, a position that NHTSA has seemingly arrived at as well. "Those vehicles performed at a rate similar to their peers. That is the keystone analysis as to whether something poses an unreasonable risk to safety," said outgoing NHTSA boss David Strickland during an interview with the The Associated Press.

Jeep's new Chip Away commercial has us hunting Al Pacino's back catalog

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

Chrysler has done a pretty good job as of late turning its television commercials into pep talks or rallying cries, but for its first ad for the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, it turned to Al Pacino's inspirational speech from the movie Any Given Sunday. In the movie, Pacino's character talks about how football is a game of inches, but the commercial, titled Chip Away, focuses more on the attention to detail that Jeep has exhibited on its updated flagship SUV.
Centering around the newest Grand Cherokee model, the luxurious $47,995 Summit trim level, the commercial shows off some of the hand-stitched leathers and real metal and wood accents found inside the cabin. Check out the new 60-second spot by scrolling below.

NHTSA boss Strickland weighs in on Jeep recall fracas

Sat, 15 Jun 2013

Adding yet another chapter to the ongoing Jeep recall story, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) head David Strickland has gone on record to defend the government's request that Chrysler recall 2.7 million out-of-production Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Liberty vehicles after the agency investigated fiery rear-end collisions that have reportedly killed at least 51 people over the years. In statements made to The Detroit News, Strickland said, "We felt very strongly that the process that we undertook and the findings that we made and ... we made the decision to issue a recall request. We do not take that very lightly." The top US auto safety regulator stopped short of telling owners to park their cars until the automaker takes action. "They can make their own risk assessment and their own choices," he said.
Chrysler does not intend to recall the models, insisting the "vehicles met and exceeded all applicable requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, including FMVSS 301, pertaining to fuel-system integrity" when they were manufactured and sold. "The company does not agree with NHTSA's conclusions and does not intend to recall the vehicles cited in the investigation. The subject vehicles are safe and are not defective," Chrysler announced last week in a statement. "We believe NHTSA's initial conclusions are based on an incomplete analysis of the underlying data, and we are committed to continue working with the agency to resolve this disagreement."
Legally, Chrysler has until June 18 to formally respond to NHTSA's request. If the automaker does not take action, NHTSA is expected to issue a formal finding and seek a recall.
