Specs

This Jeep began its life as a a banged up 1981 CJ.  After finding a complete barn-stored 1979 CJ body in South Carolina, we ripped off the old, sandblasted, painted and began the restore and build project.  I have a full set of pictures of everything that has happened to this Jeep from old to new.

1979 CJ-7
AMC 360 - TH400 Tranny - NP205 Transfer Case
Edelbrock performer 600 carb & intake
Headmann Hedders to cherry bombs (sounds awesome)
HEI distributor
Optima Yellow Top Battery
Spring Over Axle conversion with 2.5" BDS suspension lift on top.
2.5" Body lift.
Dana 44's front and rear.  Welded rear, posi up front.
Hi Steer kit
4 wheel disc brakes
38.5" Ground Hawgs with next to no pavement time on them
Electric fans
Electric fuel pump
Lots of braided fuel lines and AN fittings

Tub and under carriage are rhino lined.
Extended roll bar
Black diamond plate dash

New pushrods and lifters and timing set within the last year.

lots more.

We tried to build this Jeep for the street and for the mud but its only been used in the mud.  With some work it could be streetable.  The brakes will need to be tightened up (have to pump a lot), the steering is loose, the transfer case shifter needs to be modified (its stuck in 4-Hi... its the shifter not the case) and the wiring will need to be cleaned up.

All in all its still a classic 1979 CJ-7 with a lot of work done to it.

I have a ton of parts that will go with it.  Complete Dana 44 rear end with drums (if you want to ditch the welded rear)  Dana 44 front end that has been used for parts (knuckle, etc) but still has shafts and internals.  Tons of random accessories.  Seat belts.  Roll bar pads.  Bikini top.

Have a set of hard doors that aren't painted and need new glass that will go with it.

I have thrown an absurd amount of money into this Jeep and never use it.  Its just sitting in my barn.  Could be great for a Jeep enthusiast or great to finish and cruise to the beach.

I'm in no rush to sell but I never use it and would rather use the money for something else.

Text offers to FIVE SIX ONE - 239 - TWO TWO NINE EIGHT.  Cash talks.

It is for sale locally, so I may end the auction early.  We might be able to arrange a delivery if its somewhat close for fuel costs.

Possible trades: Side-by-Side set up (two rear singles and a front double) airboat w/ 6cyl aircraft or gearbox car motor.  3/4 or 1 ton buggy on tractor tires + cash.  Clean center console with outboard.

NHTSA boss Strickland weighs in on Jeep recall fracas

Sat, 15 Jun 2013

Adding yet another chapter to the ongoing Jeep recall story, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) head David Strickland has gone on record to defend the government's request that Chrysler recall 2.7 million out-of-production Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Liberty vehicles after the agency investigated fiery rear-end collisions that have reportedly killed at least 51 people over the years. In statements made to The Detroit News, Strickland said, "We felt very strongly that the process that we undertook and the findings that we made and ... we made the decision to issue a recall request. We do not take that very lightly." The top US auto safety regulator stopped short of telling owners to park their cars until the automaker takes action. "They can make their own risk assessment and their own choices," he said.
Chrysler does not intend to recall the models, insisting the "vehicles met and exceeded all applicable requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, including FMVSS 301, pertaining to fuel-system integrity" when they were manufactured and sold. "The company does not agree with NHTSA's conclusions and does not intend to recall the vehicles cited in the investigation. The subject vehicles are safe and are not defective," Chrysler announced last week in a statement. "We believe NHTSA's initial conclusions are based on an incomplete analysis of the underlying data, and we are committed to continue working with the agency to resolve this disagreement."
Legally, Chrysler has until June 18 to formally respond to NHTSA's request. If the automaker does not take action, NHTSA is expected to issue a formal finding and seek a recall.

Jurassic Park made a big impact on these Jeep drivers

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

For a certain cohort of young folks, Jurassic Park is a touchstone film from their childhood. Not only did it play into practically every little boy's love of dinosaurs, the movie included some great action scenes and special effects that still hold up today. In its latest video, The Aficionauto takes a look the Jurassic Park Motor Pool, a California car club with over 40 fans who created replica vehicles from the iconic film.
The club is made up of an interesting cross-section of people. Many of them were Jeep Wrangler fans that already loved off-roading and Jurassic Park, and liked the idea of bringing them together. Like any close-knit club, it ends up being about community and people coming together to share their interests. It's quite a heartwarming video. Also, be sure to stay until the end because The Aficionauto teases a future Jurassic Park-themed vehicle. Scroll down to check out the motor pool.

2014 Jeep Cherokee uncovered with bold new look

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

Jeep has been shuttling around Alfa Romeo-based test mules and camouflaged prototypes of its replacement for the current Liberty for some time now. Those heavily disguised vehicles may have offered a glimpse of the new Jeep, but a new set of production-line images from Jalopnik tell a much more complete story.
Jalopnik report indicates unequivocally that the Cherokee name will be re-upped in place of Liberty, though it doesn't spell out exactly where that thinking comes from, though a name change has been rumored for some time. Chances are good that the same source that delivered these factory images delivered the name, as well.
The Cherokee absolutely has some Alfa Romeo DNA in its makeup, the final product is far from looking like its Guilietta ancestor. The athletic, high-waisted design is relatively attractive from what we can see here, though the grille and headlight treatment are sure to cause a lot of ruckus when the Cherokee makes its official debut at the New York Auto Show in April. The very narrow, pointed headlamps are pinched in a not particularly Jeep-ish fashion, and the curved, short version of the seven-slot grille is far more rakish than anything that Jeep has produced to date.
